Final Page-- [A note to Eliza]
Dear Eliza,
I never knew your real name, nor who you would be when I left, but I am proud of you. To me, you'll be the daughter I could only raise for three years, and I won't forget you even when I'm dead and buried. Three years... It seems like no longer than a day, though I'm glad it lasted longer.
Now that you have the tools, the knowledge, and more potential than I could hope for, you're going to be the ship's doctor. Doctor Eliza Gramm. Even when you find your family, I hope we can share the memory of that name. Now remember, I'm entrusting you with the lives of the crew, so make sure to keep them in their top form, and keep an extra eye on Luke, so he doesn't hurt himself too badly. If you ever need help, my notebook is filled with techniques and treatments, though I have faith that you'll do well on your own.
Most importantly, I want you to live life for happiness, no matter what happens. Somewhere down the road, I lost all of it, and lived only for the past, trying to go back there. Then, when I met you, just a helpless young lady on the waves, I could smile again. I know that no matter what you end up doing, others will feel that cleansing smile, and they'll know what kind of great girl you ended up. I mean it. I'm really proud, and even though we're parting ways for our families, you will always be my daughter.
If this is the end of our time together, I won't feel so bad about that which we spent in eachother's company. If we meet again, then that would bring me all the joy in the world. Either way, I have no regrets.
Always,
Dr. Johnathan Gramm
P.S. When you find your home and place in life, this notebook will be yours to do with as you please. Take this, and all that we learned together, and do good for the world. I know you can make other's lives good, so don't let me down.
