Cat was sleeping - or feinging sleep - when Noname snuck out. His little cat ears twitched and turned at every sound in the dark, and his tail flipped this way and that, excitement written in every step. He was happy to be out of there. Cat had him memorizing things all day, and some of them were just plain nonsense. Nani was old enough now to realize that his father had a couple of screws loose. Whatever.
Grinning, he took off toward the lake, where the water shone with the brightness of the moon, and the very few people who were insomniac enough to be OUT at this time of night meandered and strode through moss-covered willow branches, underneath the quiet watch of owl-kind. It excited the boy's blood, seeing all in dark and dim - but being able to find his way even in the pitchest black. His eyes made all as clear as day.
He made his way down to the water, and crouched there at the bank. Not a sound aside from the low hum of humanity outside the park, and the soft lapping of the mini-waves against the shoreline. Without even thinking, he stripped off his shirt, and jumped right in, splashing and laughing - ignoring the stares around him.

Nani wasn't the only Pocky Boy to like the night time. Rie loved the darkness, his slit-pupiled eyes letting him see as clearly in the night as he did in the day. The moonlight leeched the shine from his golden skin, making it paler, softer, but the uncanny green of his eyes stayed the same as he prowled through the streets. Night was supposed to be dangerous for children. It was when the predators came out, the people that took children away from their family. Cyril had told Rie that, and every night, Cyril came in and kissed Rie on the forehead to make sure that Rie was actually asleep.
Some nights, Rie was good and stayed in bed. Other nights, like tonight, he slipped out of the apartment and went down the elevator. A pocket full of coins and one of Cyril's business cards were all the supplies he needed. Mindful of his guardian's paranoia about other people seeing his wings, Rie wore his tiny tailor-made black leather jacket over his black slacks and black tunic. Cyril refused to let him have an actual sword but Rie could fend for himself well enough with a stick, if anyone was stupid enough to try to attack him.
Most people left the little boy alone, thinking him just another street kid. In the dark, they couldn’t see the fine stitching of the jacket or the golden embroidery on the clothes he wore under it. They couldn’t even see the horns that poked out of the top of his head, split like antlers.
And none of them saw his sharp, fanged smile as he slid through the streets and into the park, heading unerringly for the lake. His jacket felt stifling. He wanted to slip into the water and bathe under the moonlight. Cyril made a big fuss about shampooing and conditioning his hair, and making sure Rie always had plenty of olive oil soap to use but Rie’s instincts said that he didn’t spend enough time outside, under the sun, under the moon.
There was noise coming from the lake, splashing and laughter; Rie tossed his jacket up into a tree for safekeeping, along with his tunic, and then slid into the water before anyone could notice the little wings that protruded from his back. He paddled over to the other boy and stared openly at his ears, “I thought that cats didn’t like water.”

Noname didn't seem at ALL surprised to see another there. Most likely, he'd know that he was coming. Cattish ears and all. One of them flicked away a little water, as Nani sat up in the shallows, and beckoned to the horned-one.
"Come on in! Don't be shy! Water's fine, and so am I! And so are you, the way you look, right out of a storybook!" he rhymed, still waving madly.
"Dragons, too, or so I'm told... don't like water, they like gold. Or are you of the Eastern bend? Either way, come be my friend!"
He splashed a little more, then got to his hands and knees in the water, which put his tail poking out and soaked, as well as his ears. He disappeared entirely, with a huge breath, as he crawled along the bottom.... then popped up right in front of the dragon-child, and spit water in his face like young kids are bound to do.
"Got you wet! Got you wet!" He giggled. "Now your soaked, so come on in! Dry is best, but wet is WIN!"
He ducked back under the water, and appeared again, a fair way out into the lake, before disappearing once more, and popping up closer. Nani had TONS of energy to spare, and it showed.

Why was the boy rhyming?! Rie had very little time to try to figure that out before the sight of the boy's tail caught his attention instead. His eyes widened, the dragon-child not used to seeing other inhuman children and instinctively, he smiled at the other, opening his mouth to respond to the rhyming question --
And then water got spat in his face!
He spluttered, trying to wipe it off, shock curving his mouth into an O. He was wet already, yes, but that was just water. This was water that had been in someone else's mouth!
By the time the cat-boy popped up again, Rie had readied himself for revenge and tried to splash water at him with his hands.
"I am a dragon from tales of old, a prince who likes green and gold. From the East is where I come, if you're my friend then we'll have fun!"
He tried to match the stranger's rhyming patterns, the same way that he would attempt to speak any foreign language he learnt. He wasn't sure if the meter was right, but it rhymed and that was probably the important bit! Meter was more like inflection, right? The boy could correct Rie if his assumption was wrong, he wouldn't mind.
