So when I was in I broke my hip. I always stayed in shape by running. I used to run miles a day in my free time. Now I don't know what to do. I been steady putting on weight since I came home.
Has any one ever gone through this before? Any tips on what I can do to work out that would be low impact? I thought about going to the pool but thats not really an option for me. Any advice would be great.

Have you done physical therapy yet? They will be best able to help you with low impact exercises.

You can do upper body exercises, like push-ups, pull-ups, and dips if your hip isn't messed up so bad were you can't move it. whee

Yes I did Physical Therapy while I was in. It consisted of my laying on a bed with electric pads stuck to me.
They didnt really care much about me staying in shape so much as trying to get the pain under control and work with the torn ligaments and what not.
As far as push-ups and pull-up soldier I have kept up with all of that, Its more a matter of it being hard to work my abs since sit-ups and running arnt really an option any more.
Thank you both for the suggestions though!

See about swim therapy. That would be your best bet so far. The physical therapy should continue though, I know its boring but its gotta be done.

Trust me, from experience, PT is necessary for more then just that.
I went in to help with some basic muscle problems and ended up doing 7 months of physical therapy to correct underlying problems.
I have to go back in a few weeks to do a few more weeks of PT.
The military PT usually just wants you functioning, but you should really get back into it, at the very least they can give you a list of exercises.
