I got this list from another guild:
Silver Ravenwolf
Fionna Horne
Lauri Cabot
Starhawk
Gwinevere Rain
Konstantinos
Dorothy Morrison
D.J. Conway
Gavin and Yvonne Frost
Hailey D.D Kleine
Sandra Kynes

I understand why the first two should be avoided but the rest, I either don't know of them or I don't understand why they should be avoided. Starhawk's Spiral Dance has been recommended, Lauri Cabot has been mentioned to be avoided but I don't know why (I've seen what she looks like though..O_o), I've heard of Conway but forget what she has written and I don't know much about her, and I've enjoyed reading one particular book by Dorothy Morrison. The rest, I have never heard of them and don't know anything about them. Could someone clear this up for me?

Sorry, I can't sweatdrop
I don't think you need to avoid anyone, if their books help then that's good! Even if it's $ilver. ect. sweatdrop

I personally have found Silver Ravenwolf useful. Not as much as other authors I'll grant you, but she has been helpful none the less. Why should she be avoided?

[copied and pasted from PFRC]

I tend to ignore any sorts of author blacklists around on the net, read everything, and make my own judgements. You cannot fairly assess any author by putting them on some 'don't read this' blacklist, but then I'm of the mind that there is no book in existence not worth looking through at least once. If with these lists, reasons aren't given for why they're there, I wouldn't pay much attention to them. And even if there are reasons, such reviews are always biased to the reviewer; ask yourself who is doing the review, what they probably value, and what perspective they bring to the book. A person concerned with the scholarship of a book is going to rate something differently than someone who is more biased towards how original the spells are.

Several of the authors on the list I'm not familiar with, but Starhawk and the Frost's on the list is surprising. I agree with how Jasta explains why Starhawk is likely on this list; she was among the first to really start shifting how Wicca is defined in the community beyond the confines of covens and there are those who disagree with that. Seems like often times these 'don't read me' author lists are really just someone's personal take on what's 'correct practice' and what isn't rather than what is well written and researched.

I don't really know why there is any blacklist. if it helps then read it. I have heard some bad stuff on Silver Raven wolf though i won't go any further into that. Um....as for why Lauri Cabot is on there I do not know. but i do know that she blessed my step-sister when she was a baby, and that she is a very nice lady who i've heard nothing but good things about. My step-mom says she is very nice and when the police need her help she doesn't lie to them if she doesn't see anything. So i'd give her some props for that. as for the others the only one that i've heard of is D.J. Conway but i've never read any of his stuff so i can't really tell you anything about him. sorry.

I dont' think it's so much as a blacklist as, just authors who's informations you should becareful when considering. Don't take it as the ULTIMATE source. Consult a few references before basing a decision. Now ::raises hand:: I admit, I read a hell of a lot. And I read everything. I've read at least one book in it's entirety from every one of those authors listed above. Each have their own individual style, their own individual belief structure, and their own personal flavor to them. The only one I've ever really had a problem with was $ilver. But that's because of her religious bashing, her oppression conspiracies, and her bit that it's "ok to lie to people about what you do if your not ready to tell the." That and the fact that you should foist your beliefs on everything else that walks this earth ((not to mention her outrageous stories)) but I will admit that amongst the babble there are quite a few solid outlines for beginners. If you are able to sift through what is real and what is . . . let's say, less then stellar, then she's not horrible.

But such goes for every author. You have to decide what's right for yourself. Not take it solely from anothers beliefs. Belief and Religion are a personal journey of the sole. Not something to dabble in over the weekend when your bored.

Just throwing in my two cents

I don't think you should avoid ANY author as all knowledge is useful. You don't have to BELIEVE everything they say but the knowledge is always good.

I must say I'm a fan of DJ Conway. I think she's a pretty good author and her stuff is pretty useful.
