What are your guys' thoughts on them? Have you ever used them? If so, did they help?

I kiiiind of did food journals when I was 15 (not like this though - before it was just me writing what I ate and completely estimating the calories), along with basic exercising, and I lost 40 pounds at some point (I didn't really notice when it happened) within a year.

I found a seemingly great food journal site online, and I'm thinking about doing it again, especially since I have no time to exercise (and even if I did, there's no room here to do basic exercises, and I don't have the money for a gym pass).

I set this thing up and apparently if I want to lose 40 pounds in 5 months, I can have 1,284 calories per day.
If I want to lose 50 pounds in 5 months, I can have 1,055 calories per day.

I'm not sure how accurate it is but it seems pretty legit. And I shouldn't have -too- much of a problem - yesterday I had about 1,100 calories and today I had about 700. I feel hungry, but it's not the worst feeling ever. I've felt hungrier. Plus, I'm just used to eating more, so that's probably why.

I've also decided to walk to my classes (15 minute walk one way)instead of taking the bus (except when it's at 8 am, or if there's a large amount of wind and snow) so I think that should help. o:

This site I found lets you put in whatever you ate that day and then finds the calories in it. I dunno, I don't think it could hurt to try anyway. surprised

I did one for my bio class last year.

I found myself eating less simply because it was a pain in the a** to keep track of everything. ><;

Is it safe to eat under 1500 calories a day? D:

This is a good weight loss tool. It creates a healthy diet and exercise plan for you and has tons of little features. It gives you balanced meal plans and recipes or you can put in food you ate. Plus it links you to exercise videos and estimates the calories you burn from doing them.

Its really helpful and a good way to make sure you're staying healthy while trying to lose weight.

I've never tried it.

But I'd be wary of something like that. It probably just takes averages to calculate how many calories you should eat. Like, average metabolism for that average height for that average weight. An individual can vary quite drastically from the mean, so it can be misleading. I mean, it probably can't take into account body fat percentage, muscle density, natural metabolism etc. So I'd use it as a rough guideline, but I doubt sticking rigidly to it will give you those exact numbers.

Not to mention how eating too little too suddenly can make your body go into starvation mode and start hoarding those calories into fat.

In all honesty, the best way to lose weight is to combine dieting with exercise.

the s**t I do at the gym I could easily do at home.

on my first day, some guy showed me s**t to do as like an orientation
I SPREAD MY KNOWLEDGE:

stack up some books, with a pillow/something soft on top, about 9-12 inches off the ground.
start in a push up stance, then go down to your elbow, elbow, then back up, hand hand, elbow elbow, hand hand, elbow elbow, hand hand. Do it like 15 times, and then switch so your OTHER elbow/hand goes down first.

get a basket/soccer/idgaf ball (lol not tennis, base, or soft) and do a push up with the ball under one hand, then switch it, then do a push up, and switch it, and do a push up.. etc

on that same stack of books, sit your a** down. place one hand beside you to support yourself, and the opposite foot of that hand stays planted/bent on the ground. (let's say it's your right hand and your left leg)
The, bend your left arm behind your head (YOU'LL BE DOIN SITUPS, ASSUME THE POSITION) and bend your right knee up to meet your elbow.
You'll turn a little to meet eachother, awesome super.
Do this until it hurts, and then do five more. Then switch.

"unbalanced" work-outs are probably best.

I'm supposed to do 45 of this s**t, and 30 of cardio 3 days a week, and then some other fourth day of the week do 60 of cardio.

and no I don't do food journals, I'm afraid.

I tried doing one of those, but it was so annoying to me, if I wanted cereal I measured out one cup, added the calories, add the calories of milk, if I wanted veggies I would weigh how many grams blahblah.

If your dedicated, go for it. I just always felt bad when I would be diet ting, cheat and have to stare at MCDONALDS- PROBABLY 1 MILLION CALORIES.

No seriously, I have NO room in this dorm for exercise. Except for like, doing simple stretches on my bed.

I am way too lazy to do that sort of thing. And I've been losing weight without deliberately trying, just eating smaller portions and doing really simple exercises.

I like just walking as an exercise. Sometimes for fun, sometimes as an alternative to taking the bus. Walking + music is pretty relaxing I find, doesn't feel like exercise at all.

YES. Walking and music!
Sometimes when at the other school in the district for my art program, I purposely take the bus back to my school instead of home so I can walk that mile and a half from my school to home. :3

I can't walk all the way from school to home, but I often get off a couple of stops ahead of my bus stop so I can walk maybe a mile or two home. I can't really do it in the winter though because it's so cold and it's already dark by the time I'm on my bus. D:

We got a treadmill recently, but what I would always do was turn the TV on and when the next program began, I'd run in place.
Most programs are about 30 minutes each, so by running in place + doing situps/stretches/weights during TV breaks sort of helps me. :3

I'm surprised your school doesn't have a rec center or anything. O=
Also be careful on cutting it down so much all at once. I suggest doing it gradually so you don't get super hungry and cheat. Also eating lots of veggies helps, they are mostly fiber so you feel full but don't get many calories out of them.

We have a gym but it's $60 a semester, or $5 for each visit. |: Plus, again - no time. After the first half of the semester is over, though, I won't have class on Wednesdays anymore so I'll try to figure something out, even if it's just MORE walking. Although it might be super colder and snowier by then. Then maybe I'll just try walking around the building, up and down the stairs and things.
And yeah I'm pretty much only eating fruits, veggies, and only chicken as far as meat goes. I might eat fish, but the point is no red meat - too fattening. I also might buy my own salad dressing the next time we go to the store, as the dressings the cafeteria provides I have no idea what kind they are so I have no idea what their nutrition facts are. I think I'll invest in some light balsamic vinaigrette or something.

Tsuki - yeah I walk pretty much everywhere unless it's super early in the morning. Then I sleep as long as possible and just take the bus. Haha.
