So yesterday, me and my dad were out running errands and we decided to stop by a music store and get an estimate for how much it would cost to fix my mom's old wooden Normandy brand clarinet so I could play it. This clarinet is in pretty bad shape, though also pretty good shape(very fixable, but at the moment it looks terrible and doesn't play. a bit fo key polish, new pads, and a bit of tlc and it should come out lookign amazing) But, it is in excellent shape for being locked in a closet for 40 years, not to mention a few house moves(moving in with my dad, then we moved to a different spot in town when I was about 2.)
They said it would probably cost somewhere between 50 and 200 dollars,a huge difference from a previous $1000 at a different music store. So I might be getting a new/old clarinet, and it is wooden! Plus, everyone on ym mom's side of the family playd it except for her two youngest sisters, since at that point my mom was using it.
So, have any of you clarinet players had soemthing like this happen, like you got an instrument fixed after a long time of disrepair? Can anyone tell me how much this clarinet is worth once it is fixed up(general, not exact, boviously. i know there will eb some difference. It is probably about 50 years old, if it was brand new when my mom's family got it.)
and lastly, anyone want to help em decide what to name it, regardless of whether we do decide to get it fixed(we might have to wait, but my dad said it is a high possibility that we will get it fixed) The first three are male names, the others are girls My name ideas: Normandy(ovious reasons) Keshi Shiho(Full name Shihori) Rini Toka(full name Tokamya) Kiki(Full anme Kiyona)

Congratulations! Nothing rocks more than having an instrument with a legacy. As far as names go, how about Aika (Japanese for "love song") and Kiki sounds really cute too.

Hm, I am officially torn between Rini and Kiki. Except for Kiki, I want it to be a nickname, but I'm not too fond of Kiyona anymore. I want the name to be something japanese. I just think japanese names sound prettier then english or most spanish.
Aika is pretty cute too.

My clarinet is missing one of the most important pads on the entire clarinet. It was a 50-60 year old clarinet that belonged to my grandfather. You are SO lucky my dad's never going to get mine's fixed!
