Rogue
User Image
Lurking in that shadows is a figure ready to act. Quick as lighting she strikes the unsuspecting victim down with her weapon of choice. Most rogues have little in common with one another. Some are stealthy, some are silver-tongued tricksters, spies, thugs, diplomats, or scouts. Rouges are very skilled at getting what others don't want them to get, such as getting into locked doors, finding hidden treasures, getting passed deadly traps, finding secret plans or picking some poor expecting persons pocket.

Though not equal to any fighting class in combat, rogues know where to hit to make it hurt. Rogues have a sixth sense when it comes to avoiding danger. Some rogues are officially inducted into an organized fellowship of rogues or “guild of thieves.” Some are self taught; others learned their skills from independent tutors. Often, an experienced rogue needs an assistant for scams, jobs, or just for watching her back. She recruits a likely young person, who then learns the skills of the trade on the job. Eventually, the trainee is ready to move on, perhaps because the tutor has run afoul of the law, or perhaps because the trainee has double-crossed her tutor and needs some “space.” Rogues do not see each other as friends unless they happen to be members of the same guild or students of the same tutor. As a matter of fact, rogues trust each other less than they trust anyone else.

The rogue’s role in a group can vary dramatically based on her skill selection—from charismatic con artist to cunning burglar to agile combatant—but most rogues share certain aspects. They aren't capable of prolonged melee combat, so they focus on opportunistic sneak attacks or ranged attacks. The rogue’s stealth and her trapfinding ability make her one of the best scouts.

Mage

User ImageThe visible world is only one half of the story - at a generous estimate. It is the Mage's goal in life to explore as much of that other, invisible half as possible - and bend its possibilities to his advantage. Though most are weak in hand-to-hand combat, the Mage's abilities are by far the most wide-ranging of the four classes, calling on everything from monsters lurking at the bottom of the ocean to powerful, arcane forces, from summoning the flora and fauna of the woodlands to control of the elements themselves. No single Mage can master all or even most of these, naturally - with such a broad spectrum of powers to choose from, specialisation is even more important than to the other classes. In particular, most magi restrict themselves to one of the six basic elements - air, fire, wind, water, light and darkness - or a combination thereof, though other possibilities, such as the despicable art of necromancy, do exist.

The typical Mage is a studious character, interested far more in books and ancient scrolls, givers of precious knowledge, than in other people, particularly non-Magi. Many prestigious schools of Magecraft even require their applicants to sever all ties with friends and family to lessen distraction from their studies. This isn't to say that Magi are necessarily emotionless or uncaring, though it is far from unheard of for them to become so engrossed in their own world of literature and expendable objects that they lose all sight of the value of human company or, worse, a human life; simply that their intensive upbringing often leaves them with fewer social skills than the average person. Many, however, do leave the ivory towers and go out into the world, whether to explore, conduct experiments or even just live a life away from stuffy chambers and reclusive intellectuals.

A Mage's role in the group differs depending on the Mage in question's own abilities and specialisation. Some are masters of offensive magic, and can scatter smaller foes with wide-ranging spells or focus on tougher opponents with more potent sorcery; others will hang back and support their comrades with shields and enhancements; others still may see their primary task as healing their comrades. One place you're very unlikely to find a Mage is on the front line of a rank of mêlée fighters, as they are rarely gifted hand-to-hand fighters, usually lacking either the physique or experience. Some healing Magi, however, do take limited roles in combat, as healing is often impractical in the heat of battle. A Mage's weapon of choice tends to be a weighty wooden staff, which is often used in their enchantments as well as for walking and the rare spot of physical combat, but there are numerous exceptions.

Warrior

User Image

The Warrior is many things, a protector, a murderer, a destroyer, bust most of all the Warrior is a symbol, a symbol of the pinnacle of bravery (or madness.) and strength. A Warrior stands tall with pride in his own strength, and relies on it to cut his path through life. May he fall in love with a beautiful woman, raise loving children, die of old age, the Warrior will always hold his blade high into the air and scream out a cry of valor and charge headfirst into battle. The Warrior is loyal to themself and their king. It is not uncommon for their to be evil Warriors, as they are the most commonly found of the classes. Not everyone can be a Warrior, you must be strong, brave, willing to die at any second.

The Warrior uses close-range weaponry, such as swords, shields, maces and the like. "Smash and slash" was the slogan of the ill-spoken Warrior Ichiya Komono, it sums up everything a Warrior is in battle, prefering to beat or cut their enemies until they are a bloody puddle of what once was a human being, and then onto the next.

A Warrior's role in the group is commonly known as the Meatshield, taking hits and doing damage whilst under the support of a Mage, Ranger or Rogue.

Ranger

User Image
The Ranger is a truly majestic sight to behold, doing battle with their enemies from afar with their trusting bow and arrows creating a flurry of raining death. Rangers are notorious for their ability to communicate with the beasts of the wild, thus, every Ranger has an animal companion they take with them throughout their journeys. As if arrows were not hard enough to fight, add a mauling bear or a ravaging wolf to the equasion. 'tis not smart to run from a Ranger, lest you end up with an arrow in your back.

The Ranger's role in the group is to do battle from afar whilst Warriors and Rogues do the main bulk of damage to opponents. Also, Rogues are trackers, herbalists and trap-makers.
