I was first introduced to the Master through The Five Doctors, before the Master showed up again in the new series, and I still prefer that version to the new one (although I actually kind of liked the Master in part 2 of The End of Time).

I think most people become loyal to the first version of the characters they see. Already I'm getting depressed about this Matt Davis guy, and I've never even seen him act. I just can't seem to help but dislike him, just because he replaced my Doctor.
Why, Tenth Doctor! Why did you have to regenerate!?!
I'm dreading when the Master returns, and he's no longer my crazy, albino cutie-pie crying

(Psst... It's Matt Smith... ninja )
Well, the first episode I watched of Doctor Who, old or new, was the one where the Nine regenerated into Ten... And my favorite Doctor is Five... And I'm really looking forward to Eleven. So I guess I'm just weird. razz
But anyway...

The first episode of Doctor Who I saw was probably the 4th doctor when I was a wee nipper. My dad loves the 4th so much that he can't recognize any other doctor as THE doctor (which is what happens when a doctor stays around too long, DT had good reason to leave the show after 3 series). My favorite was not the first I ever saw, but the 5th doctor, he was so cute. <3 Seconded by 4th and in a close third is the 10th.
The first Masters are my favorites as well, they were much more... evil. Saxon is more of a mental case, someone we can't blame anything on. I like it when people are just plain evil sometimes.

lol, Five was definitely a cutie-pie. 4laugh Four was great, too, of course, and I have to admit to having a soft spot for Six.

I just saw The Five Doctors for the first time a few days ago (LOVED it). I believe it was John Pertwee that referred to the Master as "...my best enemy." Brilliant. I saw Saxon first and liked his character, but the Master from The Five Doctors was a classic take on villiany. Loved the cape.

Gah! Stop ruining my half-assed theory and damaging my over-sized ego DX!!!
I don't know, I like the insanity of the last Master. Like I believe someone stated before, there was something almost childish about him, and I think that sparked a, I don't know, an almost maternal sympathy for him from me. Gah, I don't know xp

The master is probably the biggest paradox of them all, there were videos of the end of time (parts 1 & 2) on youtube but they were removed a few weeks ago. Russell explains the master a little more thoroughly in those episodes than in the end of season 3.
The beating of the drums sounds quite similar to the beat of the doctor who theme... smile

The master was the doctors friends when they went to school. he appared with the third doctor. where the master used aliens such as the nestene and the darleks to get power and the death of the doctor. He once used up all his 13 lives and he tryed to destroy gallifrey but the fourth doctor stopped him. then he got hold of a new body but the 4th doctor stopped him. the he fought with the 5th, 6th, 7th doctors. then he was exerminated by the darleks then he took over a paramedic body, to try and steal the eighth doctors remaining life force. then when the time war started he disguised himself as a human at the end of the universe. burning_eyes
