My computer crashed, and it won't turn on. I just realized the other day that I have family history ON THE HARD DRIVE. And it goes back to the 1600's. crying Stupid laptop...

there's a way i'm sure, the local geek in your ward should know! i'd explain, but it's easier if its done by a real person, not over the internet.

The odds are pretty good that you can save it. If it didn't turn on at all, the hard drive is most likely intact, though if it gave you a message like "primary master hard disk fail", your doomed. I think the church has an online storage system for family history, you might wan to look into that for future backup reference.
