SPAWNTANEOUS ASPLOSION

User Image The humble little lone scrabbled through the underbrush, trying to get back to her makeshift den. It was an old den, used by a litter before her. The scent of puppies flooded her nose, and brought back old memories. Most of them harsh rememberances of Maim and Rend's time. She'd been a horrible mother, without exception. But even with what she had done, something inside her wanted to be a mother again. Do what she failed to do for Maim and Rend. Make a whole new family happy. She owed to do that for someone, didn't she?

Mocha paws padded through tightly packed dirt, leaving small scuff marks as a reminder of her journies. She gave a flick of her muddy tail, sending two flies scuttering off, only to fly back again to the same location. Elayi hummed a little tune in annoyance as she reached the den openeing.

With the sound of wings flapping above his silver head, Mahli found that since his sister ran out of the pack, mad at their father for the new daughter he had with a mysterious female…No, she was also their sibling. Sure it was hurtful to know that their mother, a hag as far as the corpse blue and silver male could recall, seemed to mean little to their father in that case, but at least it seemed their father had found company for another night.

The young brute sighed. Why was he so concerned? It wasn’t like worries would change the fact, he would protect his siblings even his youngest sister till death. His pack was his life and maybe that was how he would keep it, how did Mahli know that he wasn’t cursed like his father? To not have love from someone his heart could go to?

Silver eyes flickered up to the green crow flying between tree branches; the bird was his long time friend and familiar Bertok. Mahli’s extra set of eyes and obnoxious mouth. “Bertok, go ahead and fly back to tell Crunch everything looks good on this side of the border. I’ll be back after checking the next bend.” The wolf had a deep voice, but it wasn’t any were near his father’s aged deepness or that rugged depth that happened to be Akiiki Chibale’s Alpha male’s voice.

Hauntingly green eyes flickered towards the wolf that the bird knew since his youth. Landing upon a tree to stare down at the silver brute with an M (letter known due to Crunch having made a comment on it at one point) and blue ribbon that adored the youthful brute’s shoulders, one of each side, Bertok cawed back.

“You sure? What if you do run into something just around the bend?” It seemed fishy to the bird.

Silvery-white eyes narrowed in there ribboned band, “I can handle my own, besides, if you hear me howl, you’d be able to led the pack straight to me.” A small smile graced Mahli’s maw, “But I think everything will be fine. This is no where near RoT or Agua Azul, so I’m not sweating anything, just go give a report…Unless you see Moranna, than caw for me.”

The last words were that of a worried brother, but his duty was his calling at the moment. And Bertok was well aware of it. Nothing else was said as the bird dipped his green head and took to the air again, back towards the main den. Mahli watched for a moment to make sure his ally made it through the trees fine and began to walk forward again. His paw falling gently on the forest’s floor.

Elayi raised head out of the low den. She could hear speaking. That of a male wolf and crow. Though, she wasn't on anyone's territory, and maybe if she hid they would leave her alone. She backed deeper into the den, only to accidentally kick a small stone out infront of it, and snap a twig.

Oh, no.

The earthy femme lay down low in her den and stay motionless. This was why she wasn't meant to be a fighter.

A skittering rock to his right got Mahli to snap his head in the direction and upon hearing the twigs, the male looked back in the direction his familiar had disappeared off into. It wasn’t on Akiiki Chibale’s territory, he was on the very territory line, but…eyes narrowed in contemplation.

I should check it out. He told himself, what if it was a scout for another pack, Crunch would chew him a new one if that was the case and it had been left unattended and they were attacked.

With his father’s careful training on how to move softly towards an unknown or possible hostile encounter, Mahli allowed his long legs to lead him away from his pack and family, just for a second. Nose quivered and instantly picked up dozens of faint game scents, a migration path, was his focused thought. Then it hit him.

The scent of a lone female, recently passed through the area. White eyes scanned the trees for the owner of the scent. She was only there a minute ago. Had his a Bertok’s conversation sent her running back to her pack?

He sniffed the scent trail again. No…she was a loner, no other wolves on her pelt, except for something…possibly.

Perked up ears the male lifted his head up, “Hello? Is there someone out here?” He sniffed the air, was the female hurt? “Do you need a healer?” He continued. Listening for any sounds.

Was she hurt? Hah, that made her laugh. She had dozens of little cuts and bruises everywhere, she was never 'OK'. But alas, something in this male's voice calmed the intense fear through her body. If he had a plan up his pelt, she would've smelled it.

"No. I'm fine. Who are you?" She stayed in the comfort of her den, only peeking her head out a little to investigate the male. He was large, almost as big as her son. The silver pelt he wore intrigued Elayi even further, and she sniffed a bit. He had a pack of his own, why was he out here? "I'm Elayi..." She said her name unsurely.

His eyes watching every piece of forest floor they spied as his ears flickered about, waiting for the sound of anything or anyone, and it paid off in a second. The soft female voice, one older, but still soft, got the scratched left cheek to turn first to his left, in the direction the female’s words had come from. Three key scars on the male were not anything he had acquired through fights, but they were from the same genetic curse where his corpse coloring came from, his hag of a mother.

A step towards the voice was only by instinct of curiosity, but his words were hesitant at first. The female was okay, Mahli stopped his couple steps before he got too far. “That’s good to hear.” He blushed slightly under his gray pelt. “My apologies miss on my lack of manners. I’m Mahli from Akiiki Chibale, the neighboring pack here.” He spotted the female’s head come out of the ground, actually just the green eyes among the dying foliage and he just stared into them; dumbstruck.

A second or two passed and when his brain caught up to him, the young brute nodded his head, “Um…pleasure to meet you Elayi.” His ribboned brows came down, unsure of what to say.

“Umm…” he swallowed, “I’m not here to cause you any trouble…just so you know.” Yeah, way to go, say that Mahli. Bertok would be busting a tail feather at you right now, and you’re going to scare Elayi.

“Akiiki Chibale is a friendly pack, my alphas are good wolves.” He rambled out, mentally kicking himself for his sudden lack of etiquettes.

"Mahli. Hello..." She pulled herself out of her den with her forepaws, and shook the dirt from her fur. The satisfying pops her spine gave made a small smile come across her maw. Was he nervous? How strange. A male from a bordering pack, twice her size, nervous of her. A small lone female.

"Don't worry about manners, your's are better than most wolves I've met. And I'm sure you won't cause me any trouble, Mahli. You don't look like one to start an unjust fight." She wasn't sure why, but she felt a calm with this wolf, something she never, ever got anywhere else. Elayi was usually rigid, on edge, and alert. But with him, it was different. That fact neraly scared her out of her pelt.

She gave a small laugh at his uncomfortableness, and the New Elayi strode forward a step, a small smile at her maw. Mahli. A nice name, for a nice-looking wolf.

White orbs watched the female come into full view from her den, she was defiantly older than him that much Mahli could smell, but wasn’t age a simple factor.

Stop it! He mentally scolded himself. The young brute wasn’t suppose to be doing anything more than finishing his portion of the border and then relay findings to his Alpha.

Shaking his head and looking back towards Elayi, Mahli nodded once upon hearing her complement and voiced observation. “The pack I’m from is rather friendly, a family pack.” A small forgiving smile came to his maw. “I can’t say the last part is true ma’am. I’ll fight if I think someone is a threat to my family or pack.”

Especially if I want to find out where that urchin is who tried to kidnap my sister a while back…or know that Moranna is in danger. The smile dropped down to a frown in his reverie.

Elayi's head cocked to the side as she sat down on her fluffy haunches, a good two feet from Mahli. He may have been calm now, and he may have made her calm as well, but Layi would awlays be Layi. Alert, and second-guessful. To an extent.

"Well, you don't have to worry about me being a threat. You're much bigger than I." She laughed a little, dull ears twitching. It was true, he dwarfed her. Green orbs twinkled with curiosity, a rare event. Still careful, she leaned forward as much as she could to sniff him, bottom still on the ground. Yes, his pack did smell friendly. But he didn't smell at peace. Age hadn't done her sense of smell bad, at least. Not that she was old.

"Mahli, why are you so...nervous? I'm not going to maul you," Another timid laugh escaped her.
