Quite Steampunk. Labeled RPG of the Year the same year it came out, this amazing open world RPG is set in a dark fantasy land, and one of the races that is unfortunately extinct, the Dwemer, were a race of elves that pursued scientific knowledge rather than magickal, and they ended up building cities underneath the mountains, featuring steam pipes, clockwork machinery, brass automaton powered by steam, etc. And, with the right mods, you can dress very victorian, like my friendly neighborhood assassin character shall demonstrate: In his white coat and whatnot. Wielding his Dwemer crossbow.

As an active Morrowind modder, I approve this message. There's actually a very steampunk mod in the works on Planet Elder Scrolls, called Deus Ex Machina (pardon me if I misspell).

I recommend this game. I own all the expansions, many many mods and have played through it multiple times. It is an awesome game.

It truly is. I've lost count of how many times I've played it. In my opinion, possibly better than its successor, if only for the wealth of modded content. (Though there's a Goggles mod for Oblivion I'd not mind seeing brought over.)

I played Oblivion first, and it was great. It truly is an RPG in the sense of the word, and is so open ended, you spend months just running around, clearing ruins and whatnot. When I played Morrowind... I just fell in love. So much more lore, much more content, darker than Oblivion, and Dwemer ruins abound, Morrowind is simply much more better than Oblivion, hands down. And with the Morrowind Graphics Extender, you can make Morrowind look LIKE Oblivion.

My only issue with Morrowind and my finishing it is the lack of an objective compass. mad But yes, great game, in many ways superior to Oblivion and Fallout 3. As I'm sure you can all attest to!
I must admit though, I didn't get an overly steamy-message from it despite all the Dwemer ruins and what-not. Scavving the scraps of a lost civilisation and that. :p I can certainly see the argument though! Isn't there a quest in Bloodmoon to find someone's crashed airship or something? Plus isn't there an East Empire Company in it as well?

Sadly, much of MGE does unspeakable things to my outdated hardware. I use it, and the built in MWSE is wonderful, but distant land kills me. I mostly run it at min settings. Still, I can't imagine playing without Better Bodies and a headpack. If I lost all other mods, I'd find a way to get those.

Yes indeed. And you can also find Dwemer airship schematics scattered about.

Had to tweak the .ini to make it smoother, but some user-made stores have so much stuff in one cell it lags my game badly.

Scavving the scraps of a lost civilisation and that. :p That's probably because at heart, Morrowind is a fantasy game, and the Dwemer have been extinct for a long time now, so what you see are remnants of a great civilization. Ruined cities don't really give you that steampunky feel.

I tried to tell my friend Morrowind was better than Oblivion, but he wouldn't listen. Morrowind has much more content, much more variety in the world(One eventually gets sick of the color green). I've been considering mods, but I never got around to trying any of them out. I plan to soon.
