Gaian Pokemon Colosseum

The Gaian Pokemon Colosseum (A.K.A. GPC) is an online community dedicated to the discussion and entertainment of pokemon. We are a sub-part of GaiaOnline, one of the internet's largest online community forums. In the GPC, we hope to promote the members knowledge of pokemon, encourage their activity in the various aspects of Pokemon (Videogames, Anime, TCG, etc.), and over all else, be a strong and active community.

What is Pokemon? Pokemon started as a japanese Video Game. It was orignally called Pocket Monsters in Japan, but was shortened to the now universal name "Pokemon". It was created by a group called "Game Freak", headed by Satoshi Tajiri. Game Freak existed prior to pokemon as a gaming magazine, and eventually partnered with Nintendo. Now, Pokemon is one of Nintendo's largest selling games, as well as a popular Anime (with new episodes still airing), a trading card game, and much more. The Pokemon themselves are creatures with abilities and capabilities beyond those of our world, where they can be caught and trained. There exist 493 pokemon to date; over the years this number increased from 151 to 251 to 386 to what it is now. It is expected that Pokemon will continue to grow, with new things to look forward to as it develops.

Pokemon takes place in a fictional world that is based on our own. Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh are the four major areas of this world that are inhabited by pokemon - these areas are also based on real world places in Japan. There are more regions that exist, including Orre, Fiore, and other un-named areas featured in games like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.

Pokemon Trainers are people who capture and train pokemon. A device known as a Poke Ball is used to catch them. A Poke Ball is essentially a capsule, that shrinks down and contains the pokemon within them. There exist several types, some of which are harder to obtain or have different effects in the catching of pokemon. Trainers will use the pokemon they have captured to battle against one another. Many trainers have the hopes of becoming a Pokemon Master, but what that entales is a mystery even to long time fans.

The Guild As previously stated, the Gaian Pokemon Colosseum is an online commmunity. Guilds on gaia are self-promoted by their owners, who paid a fee of 20,000g to create them. The Guilds are, basically, forums. Gaia contains their own forums, such as the Chatterbox or the GD. Guilds enable members of gaia to create their own areas of the site, to run with their own rules, so long as they comply with the GaiaOnline Terms of Service.

The Forums

Many members that are new to the guild often question what the guild is. The guild is just like any other area of gaia; it is a forum. Being so, it is made up of many different sections, consisting of one Main Forum and 15 Subforums. The main forum is for General Pokemon Discussion, while the other areas are for more specific means of discussion or activity.

It is a misconception that the main forum is the most important area of discussion. It is simply the most active, by popular demand of higher posting rates. The other areas of the guild offer, perhaps, less activity, but lurkers of those subforums are usually more knowledgable.

The Main Forum

This area is primarily used for common conversations as well as Guild Updates and Announcements.

The Subforums

The Crew Quarters: This subforum is a restricted area for the use of Crew Members only. It is in this area that major decisions for the guild are made.

Crew Archives and Guild Archives: The GPC has existed since August 1st, 2009 and officially started again January 23rd, 2010 after being inactive for several months. While we don't keep every thread we've ever created, we like to hold on to a few. If you missed something important in the guild or are feeling remniscent, this is where we store old threads like that. But, remember, it's for show only. No posting here. The Crew Archives is for the Crew only.

Events, Contests, and Tournaments: Here you will recieve information on national Pokemon events to find rare pokemon and contests and tournaments hosted by the GPC.
The events will be posted in detail in this subforum and announced to all the members with a link to the details.
The contests and tournaments will be hosted once a month when the guild gets going good...again. The contests will deal more with the Artists and Authors, more than the battle ready, who should look into the tournaments.
Prizes will be based on in game items and pokemon, as well as Gaia Gold.

Q&A Subforum: The Gaian Pokemon Colosseum can be a little confusing. Each one of the members has their own opinions and ideas. If assistance is needed, this is the subforum to head to.

Roleplay Library: Our guild has a pretty large community of roleplayers. And roleplaying comes in a lot of different forms. If you're unsatisfied with the selection to choose from, you can make your own thread and start your own adventure.

Artist and Author Cafe: The world is made up of many different types of people. And so, creativity comes in all forms. Members are able to show off their creations in this area.

Wi-Fi Area 1: Battle and Team Related: This subforum is for Pokemon Battles through the use of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. D/P's release not only offered a new region and 107 additional Pokemon, but also offered new moves, new strategies, and opened a wider range of challengers. Using the Nintendo DS's WiFi capabilities, find an opponent in the Pokemon Wi-Fi: Battles and Teams subforum or use the forum to get opinions on your Pokemon Team.

Wi-Fi Area 2: International Trading Center: Since the advent of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl on the Nintendo DS, Pokemon communication has gone GLOBAL. The Nintendo DS is capable of Wi-Fi connection, and therefore, world-wide activity is available to anyone with wireless internet. All that is needed is a Nintendo DS, a copy of either Pokemon Diamond or Pearl, and a Friend Code which is recieved in-game. In this subforum, you can find help on how to use Wi-Fi, exchange friend codes, offer trades, or discuss Pokemon you've recieved on GTS in-game.

Meeting Room 1: Pokemon Video Game Discussion: This area of the guild is devoted to the discussion of the pokemon video games. This includes the Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl and Platinum versions of the Pokemon games, as well as spin-off titles such as Pokemon Stadium, Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Puzzle League Challenge, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, and many other games associated with The Pokemon Company. The Video Game Subforum lacks a lot of activity because Pokemon was first and foremost a video game. Which means the video game discussion in other areas of the guild is allowed, and often times promoted.

Meeting Room 2: Pokemon TCG Discussion: TCG stands for Trading Card Game. This area is devoted to the large numbers of different pokemon cards. The Trading Card game features numerous expansion packs, decks, and limited edition cards. Pokemon Movies, Video Games, and Events have promoted the Trading Card Game since it became popular in the 90's. It is an ever-growing part of Pokemon, with it's own annual tournaments. The Trading Figure Game is associated with the Trading Card Game since the official site Pokemon Organized Play promotes it.

Meeting Room 3: Pokemon Anime and Manga Discussion: The anime subforum is devoted to discussion of the Pokemon Anime, movies, and anything associated with it. Younger fans of Pokemon often become fans because of the television show, and many long time fans grew up with it. It is the anime that brought Pikachu into the spotlight as the franchise's mascot, replacing creator Satoshi Tajiri's favorite pokemon Clefairy. Pikachu (and Clefairy) and many different characters based around the in-game protagonists of the video games feature in the Anime and mangas. Mangas can be related with the Anime, and therefore they have been grouped together in one subforum.

Meeting Room 4: Video Game Cheats and Hacks: Pokemon has always been something cheating devices attracted. With the game's goal of "catching 'em all", it's a pretty tough challenge. The GPC doesn't promote the use of Cheating devices for competitive battling or for legit trading, however, we are aware that it exists. We don't mind you using them, but if you are going to, then we hope you'll protect your game by doing it properly.

Meeting Room 5: Video Game and TCG Strategies: Pokemon, either the video games or cards, often have battles pitted between two people. Here we offer you the chance to share your strategies with others and help them further their video game and card skills.

Meeting Room 6: Chatterbox: GaiaOnline's chatterbox is a pit hole for bumping contests, ways to make gold, and randomosity. Anything non-pokemon related is reccommended for this area, but there are still a few exceptions.

The Rules and Guidelines

The GPC will consist of regular members, crew members, two vice captains, and myself as Captain of the guild. The Rules and Guidelines are expected to be followed by all members, regardless if you've read them or not. Breaking the rules will force the Crew to take disciplinary action. Any rulebreaking will result in an evaluation. Based on the severity of the rulebreaking, decisions will be made by popular vote of the crew. This is our attempt to remove bias from decisions being made, and to help create a fair environment in the guild.

However, to avoid such time consuming evaluations, we would greatly appreciate you reading through and following these rules:

-Follow www.gaiaonline.com's Terms of Service and Rules & Guidelines If you can't abide by Gaia's rules, then you are not meant to be here. Breaking this rule will not only get you permanently banned from this guild, but it will also get you reported.

-Be courteous to each other. We are a community, and as a community, each individual's opinions are to be valued equally. Disagreements will arise, as discussions and debates ensue, but these should be handled in a mature manner.

-Please post in the appropriate area of the guild. The subforums are made in order to keep the guild orderly and organized. Posting in the wrong forum will not get you into serious trouble, as long as it is a first offense. If you are unsure as to where your topic belongs, feel free to contact a crew member for help.

-Do not create multiple's of the same thread. If an existing thread is not on the main page, and you were unaware of it's existence, it is ok. However, if we have a Sticky or a popular thread on the main page, do not make another of those threads. This is to keep our guild clean and free of wasted space.

-If you are to create a topic, make sure to ask yourself the following questions before making your topic: Has anyone made a topic about this before? Does it relate to the forum it is being placed in? If it's a question, is it asked in a way that others will understand? If it is a statement, will anyone care to respond? If you say no to any of these, don't make the topic. Or if you really have the urge to make the topic, post it in the Chatterbox Subforum.

-When posting or replying to a topic, ensure that the post is on topic to that topic, and that you are not directly offending anyone. It is ok to express your opinion, but do so in a way that can be understood. Meaning, please make your posting readable. If you have learned to use a computer, get online, and make an account here on Gaia, it means you probably have a basic understanding of the English language. Therefore, it should mean you should be able to read and write. So, I will conclude that you should also be able to type in a manner that others will understand you.

-If someone is breaking the rules, don't post back and make the situation worse. Instead, please contact a crew member, and they will take forth disciplinary action. If it is a severe issue, the crew member is then responsible for (if I have not already seen the issue and taken care of it) contacting me.

-The addition and alteration of rules is a possibility in the future based on situations as time passes. Announcements will be made if the rules are changed, and I advise members to ensure they familiarize themselves with the rules. If there is any misunderstanding of the rules, please feel free to contact me via private message. Also, in addition to the rules, I, as guild captain, am able to bend any of the rules based on circumstance.
