History

Hikari was abandoned at birth but she never knew hardship. Before her eyes opened she was found by a kindly elderly woman who she came to know as Obachan. Obachan was very wise though she did not move as easily or swiftly as younger members of her race. Living hard on the street Obachan was clever and taught Hikari tricks to help earn a living.

While anger was not the greater part of Hikari's nature she learned quickly that her looks and build made some of the two leggers walk warily around her. A fact she readily used to her advantage when strangers proved themselves dangerous. Sadly Obachan's great age made her a ready target for the young hoodlums that shared the streets with them. Obachan scavenged for food to make up for what little money they had didn't cover but as the years went by she was less and less successful. Eventually seeing that the lack of food was hard on Obachan, Hikari began to hunt to make up the difference.

It was difficult to find food in the city, but they managed. It wasn't the easiest life, but Obachan always told her how happy she was to have Hikari in her life and how her name meant light because she was the light in Obachan's life. Then it came to pass early on a cold winter's morning after several days of illness that Obachan's life slipped away. Hikari stayed at her beloved Obachan's side for as long as she could, but the streets being what they are she was chased away by the thugs who wanted nothing more than to take all Obachan had possessed.

Nothing would deter her. Hikari kept coming back. Until finally the young men who had taken up Obachan's place threw a tarp around her and carried her to a river. By the time Hikari fought her way out of the tarp the swift moving current had swept her out of the city limits and into the country. Somehow she managed to pull herself up onto the shore and lay there panting. Where she would go from there she had no idea.
