I believe that it is a necessary evil.
After all, our pets benefit from it greatly too.
However, I do believe that the information gained should also be used to benefit the species that it is initially gathered from.

I have to agree with Skeksis on it being a necessary evil, but still some of the things done to the animals is quite cruel.

I'm against it if it hurts the animals in any way, but if it doesn't harm the animals and we learn something, I'm glad we did it.

Being Vet tech student animal research is actually something we learn about. Many people don't realize there are actually quite a few laws that are in place to protect the animals in research. And it takes a lot of work to convince a board to allow the test you cant just get animals and test and call it animal research in the true legal way.

As for th whole theres no reason for the shock if they go the wrong way Its not going to be an insane shock its more like a shock from a door nob or the tinging when you run a hand over a TV. but people who don't know just hear the word shock an thing it has to be a powerful one. It just has to be enough to be felt and annoying to the creature.

This kind of test may actually one day save surfers and divers from shark attacks since they found sharks are repeled from a sudden electric current threw water. no permanent damage from guns or spears, no chance of drowning in nets, no mass shark hunts just because people want to use a beach for swimming and theres sharks. just a small zap if they go near it.

Other animal testing helped create insulin and many medications that re saving countless human AND animal lives

Then theres the almost comical testing. Example is rats watching tv. theres 5 rats in a cage with a tv on one side so they can watch) a cage with nothing then a cage with lots of max like tunnels and things to get them to think.

I agree the whole squirting in the eye to see if it stings is cruel but before they can do that they need to make sure theres no chemicals in th eye that would damage it to begin with. so though cruel they try to make it as human as they can while still getting the data. (dousnt mean i like it)

but animals being tested on usually have very nice cages to stay in and are well fed and cared for with a team of vets with them all the time (it varies since pet food like IAMS starves the dogs and cats and then lets then eat a lot till they get fat to test for internal problems, i don't like thouse tests i see how it can help other dogs but i always feel bad for them) but other pet food company's merely feed there 'research' dogs over the course of there life and have vets check them over. some dogs have more of one vitamin others another vitamin or something to see what is the most ideal formula and i think most people would agree with me on the fact of it not being a Cruel research to do that. the cages are large, they have room to play, they are well fed and have annual almost weekly health checks with monthly overall check to make sure everything is good with the dog.

Theres also animal research from behaviorists in the past (branch of psycology) that showed that if you made a sound when your treating the person or animal well ie candy or treat or just affection they will assoseate it with the sound. wich has led to a verry sucessfull kind of dogtraining that is used when training serch and rescue dogs and military dogs and just t train your own dog spot (Had to use classic name XD) with a clicker. (not all research is physical)

But another thing is my beagle Sydney ( # 4690613 (the number is tatooed into her ear) ) was actually a research dog. I think she had pharmaceuticals tested on her but she is probably the healthiest dog ive ever seen.

I am not saying i love animal testing only that alot of good has come from it and its not as evil as some people seem to make it seem I'm mealy trying to state the other side of the story many people don't think about.

There are many animal tests i find abhorent and dispize like for cosmetics or similer things but most have a reason whether to try to cure cancer or save baby's from S.I.D.S.
