The Port of Witness (kingdom)

Dominant Population: Common, with a reasonably large Garrion population working in homes and on farms, as well as living in the poorer areas of the city. There are rumours of Celph living in the deepest waters surrounding the Harbour.

Key Buildings: Several schools (both upper and lower class, with the lower class being free to those of pure Common blood), 3 libraries, government buildings and large army and navy barracks A HUGE market square in the centre of the city.

Climate & Weather:
Wet, it rains 95% of the time. Humid, steamy and generally not fun. There are yearly cyclones/hurricanes that affect the coast around Witness, but rarely do they actually cause major damage within the harbour it’s self. Lower areas of Witness, particularly those along the beach are subject to tidal flooding.

Geography:
The Port of Witness is built on a naturally occurring upwards slope, leading to a small mountain range and dense jungle that surrounds the city. The ruins of a large Garrion city can be found a few ours walk from the Witness.
The coast line within the harbour is made of wide black sand beaches, with several large rocky areas scattered along the stretches of sand.
The waters within the harbour are deep – so deep that no one knows how deep. Some Garrion say that there once was a great city under those waters, inhabited by the children of gods.

City Scape
The port is built in a tiered social system, with the poorest living along the beach and the richer living near, or on, the cliffs overlooking the city. The large dock area takes up the more solid sections of the seaside and is divided in to sections catering to each class of ship that may dock there (military/navy, merchant, transport, fishing, slave). Are the dock district would also be stores selling supplies for ships, cheap accommodation for sailors as well as a lot of taverns/ pubs.

The mid area of the city is dedicated to the large market square, food and produce stalls, as well as tradesmen. The further up the slope, the more luxurious the merchandise would become. Towards the top of the slop are government buildings, churches, several libraries and more respectable schools. At the top are the homes of officials and the extremely wealthy. On the cliffs above the city would be large estates and farm land.
At the lowest levels of the city, along the beach front would be the lower class of the city, usually working class families, and those running small fishing operations. There are also a lot Garrion and ‘shady’ characters living in this area.

All roads eventually lead to the market square, but because of poor city planning, there are A LOT of side allies and cramped streets. Main roads are well maintained, while lesser used are in various states of disrepair.

Style of Building
Because it is so wet in Witness, nothing lasts long. Those with money build from stone or brick, avoiding excessive amounts of steel or wood. Those with less money build with cheap brick and wood. The lowest level of society would be left with the debris of the upper classes, ranging from damaged stone and brick to drift wood.

Many homes along the water front are built on stilts or even pontoons. In areas that are not subject to flooding, the architecture is somewhat similar to that found in the colonial era in the Caribbean, but with influences from a myriad of contemporary earth cultures. Those with wealth would show it in public and in their homes.

Industry
The main industry of Witness is its port and trading it brings. The regular influx of new comers and visitors is also the reason for their being a busy entertainment industry (both legal and illegal).
There are also a number of farms growing plant products (timber, sugar cane, fruit), as well as keeping livestock (goats, pigs, dairy cattle, several strange hybrid creatures). Fishing is also a prosperous industry within Witness. Trade in products found within the jungles (live animals and skins, strange plants, hidden treasure) that surround the city are also common

Naplan (kingdom)

Dominant Population: Common with a reasonably large population of Garrion servants and workers. Also has Garrion camps around the outskirts of the city.

Key Buildings: Several large arms factories and the biggest military barracks in Kingdom. One of the most respected academic academies, several museums and libraries and a number of schools (public and private). A large market square in the centre of the city. City Baths, a public swimming pool, a plant controlling the running water and sewage system are also notable.
Climate & Weather:
Naplin has a warm, somewhat tropical climate for most of the year, thanks to its proximity to the coast. During summer, it varies between days of extreme humidity and dry heart, as well as storms blown in from the ocean. The nearby river (The Kadenre) is also known to flood every few years.
During winter the area is prone to freezing winds blow in from the ocean and the ice fields that lay further down the coast.
Geography:
Naplin is built several miles from the coast, behind a small mountain range that shelters it from the worst of bad weather. The area was once a large area of flat grass lands, with rich soil and scattered forest areas. The Kadenre river that lies just to the west of the city is a constant source of fresh water and food. It is noted that during king tides or particularly bad storms, the waters near Naplan become somewhat salty and rise and fall with the ocean for a week or so. To the north east, beyond the mountain range, is a small fresh water lake that said to be home to a number of strange beasts and hidden Garrion temples. If you were to travel up the Kadenre river for several hours, you would find the point where it turns to salt water.
This area is now home to a sprawling city and cast farm lands.

City Scape
Unlike many cities in Kingdom, Naplan is a city with a large population that has leant to cope with its numbers. Instead of building on top of each other and cramming houses in tiny spaces, Naplan has become a sprawling city with wide streets and thought out domestic distribution. The mayor of the city long ago had plans drawn up to map out any future building within the city, taking into account a growing population and their needs. The only factor that wasn’t taken into account was the discovery of a large coal deposit to the west of city, which has led to a dramatic increase in industrial expansion, which in turn some poorer domestic areas surrounding various factories and processing plants.

The city itself is less obviously divided into social levels, rather having suburbs of various classes scattered throughout the city. The only noticeable poorer areas are those with a close proximity to unsavoury factories and plants, as well as around the very outskirts of the city where small shanty towns of outcasts have appeared.
The inner area of the city is something of a CBD, with most of the official buildings, courts, public access buildings, schools and shopping areas found there. In the very heart of the city is the market square which holds monthly gatherings of traders.
There are several public baths and a swimming pool just off from the CBD area. The baths are fed by an underground reservoir that that city is built above.
During still days, the city is often covered in a blanket of smog created by the various factories scattered around the outer edges of the city.

Style of Building
Industrial buildings are made from steel, brick and cement like mix. They’re usually huge creations with towering smoke stacks and turbines.
The mine to the west is a gaping hole in the ground (it’s an open cut mine). It’s been running for several years, and thanks to explosives, it’s at least 200 feet deep at the moment.
Government built buildings and more luxurious homes are made from stone that is bought from the quarries in the nearby mountains. Other homes are brick or wood, usually with high rooves and large windows to allow the summer breeze.

The overall style of the city is somewhat French colonial, with a slight dash of 1800s Turkish atmosphere and decoration.

Industry
Several years ago, a large coal deposit was found to the west of the city. This has lead to a boom in trade and population.
Naplan also has an extremely profitable agricultural industry, with the grass lands and frequent rain allowing a number of crops and live stock to be farmed in the area. Grain was attempted, but decided against due to the high rain fall in the area leading to rust infestations.

Naplan is also a busy trade city, with both land and sea connections (the Kadenre river is deep enough for smaller ships to travel down).
