My cousin and I go to the same school and she came into my classroom with me and I was talking to my section leader about one of the songs I was having trouble with and I was saying stuff like, "So when I'm pressing the A key I can hold down the F natural key and it won't make a difference to the sound? Ok well what about Section B measure 36? How is that rythym supposed to go? Because there is a major tempo change there." My cousin was staring at me like it was gibberish and my section leader and I look at her and started laughing because her face was priceless!

So we were getting ready to play for graduation, right? Our choir buddy, Carol, was graduating and decided to bring some balloons into the bandroom. Bad idea. Tanner (a trombone, of course) attacked my hair with the balloons and I flipped and smacked the balloons out of his hands and they floated up to the ceiling..which is super high up. We all tried to jump up and grab them (my boyfriend, a tall tennis player, almost did!) and failed. Someone figured out that using a chair could work, and it would've if Miguel (a trumpet) hadn't decided to hop up onto Tanner's shoulders and grab at it. Miguel, not being too bright, didn't realize that they're both way too short. Eventually Miguel got on Zac's shoulders, which worked because he's a freaking giant, and they got the one orange balloon but the black one was still stuck. Fed up, Will (a drummer) used a blowdart and popped the black balloon. We still can't figure out where he got the blow dart...and honestly I'd prefer to keep it that way.

So my band has a trumpet section that opposes all trumpet steryotypes. They play softly and badly, to a point where you can barely hear them. A clarinet solo could outplay the entire trumept section. Not to mention there is a total of maybe 2 good players and quite a few people who good be good if they actually practiced.
Well, those two good players were a senior who graduated and was the old section leader, and next years section leader. Well, they are both in jazz band.
At the end of the year concert, both boys had a seperate solo in jazz, which were played in succession. Well, the senior boy plays his solo, and it is as usual really good, but kind of quiet. Then all of a sudden the new section leader bursts out of the band and plays his solo loud, proud, and perfectly. Onstage, our BD was trying so hard not to laugh and just nodded his head with a big "nice job" grin on his face. I'll point out now that in the entire history of our band, even marching band, we have never had a trumpet solo so well played. Afterwards, he was congratulated by the entire band and orchestra population.

Three of us came in yesterday, one of the first days of summer vacation, to help clean out the instrument room and cubbies.
Instead of following directions and putting any stuff we found into one box, music into another, and trash into the trash can, between the three of us we gained: A nice leather jacket A decent metronome An ancient TI scientific calculator from the years before graphing programs The world's tackiest short clip-on tie A ton of pairs of used white socks (which explained the smell in this one tuba girl's cubby) A container full of stuff from many years ago (it had mostly stuff of this one guy's, but he graduated three years ago and it was from obviously before then, so...)
The assistant drum major decided he liked the jacket, but was really weirded out because if he took it and wore it to band or something someone would be like 'HEY THAT'S MINE' and maul him. ...we then proceeded to attack him with tissues and the clip-on tie while joking about giving the tie to our director and seeing if he'd wear it.
We also found, in the big pile of unsorted music in the band room, a score and piano music for jazz band with no title visible on the pages. It was the coolest thing, ahah.

It was the final rehersal before our spring concert, and it was near our last song. Our teacher was switching songs and telling the flutes something. So i looked over and saw the kid who is second chair. He was looking down but in my dirrection and leaning towards me. Then i heard a sniff. ever since then i've been asking him why he sniffed me.

One time, this kid in clarinet section (who is crazy about military for some odd reason) told our BD just before the concert that his reed went MIA/AWOL. Our BD, being cool and getting the reference, barks out that one member of clarinet company need reed as ammunition. So another girl comes up, with fresh reed in her hand, says "Here's your ammo, Private!" And the kid who lost his reed replies, "Thank you, ma'am!" and salutes. Just then, it was our time to come up to the stage. So our BD again, barks out an order, "Alright, soldiers! Line up by your company! And on we go to the battlefront!" And we all went "Yaah!!"
And this is one of our military-based band moment thanks to that kid.
