I used to have some. They reproduce like rabbits sometimes. Make sure you have a separate tank or a nursery net ready so that you can put the fry in them. You don't want the adult guppies mistaking the young ones for food!

yes i know that i have two seperate tanks right now for the babies one is for the month olds (one 2 month) and one is for the one that were born a few days ago and i heard that the mothers will have some kind of thing in their body that makes them not eat the babies for a while and i noticed thats true well for mine it is because the babies were swimming right near her mouth before and she just ignored them

Labor is pretty hard on a guppy mom, I don't know if you've ever seen it, but the birth is very intense.
I've once saw a guppy put about 50 babies on the world within two hours. Sometimes two or three came out at the same time, so that must hurt. I'm guessing the females, if well fed, are just too tired to bother.

But if the batch is very small, or not intense enough this may happen: Life & Death in 20 seconds
Also, here's a vid of the birthing. Personally I'm not big on the container they used here, since the strongest fry won't fall through the gap but swim to the surface. If you're not home on time, they'll be eaten.
I find it better to place the fish in a warm goldfishbowl with a lot of plants to hide.

Oh and babies love yellow, hard boiled egg yolk, just don't overfeed.
Good luck and have fun.

i'm amazed that you have guppies. they are pretty fragile from what i've seen. i've had 4, and most die in the first week by shock, or new tank syndrome... and one died of child birth

Uh, guppies aren't fragile at all in my experience sweatdrop
They were the first fish that I managed to breed, and I often used them to keep mosquito's out of the plant basin.

If you aclimatise them properly they are very hardy. Maybe you had fishmill guppies, where many generations are inbred and malnourished.
Dieing during birth does happen, not too often though.

Guppies are a very common fish to have because of how hardy they tend to be. My grandfather has tanks and tanks of them. His wife spends all day sorting the babies out into the "infants", "toddlers", and "teenagers" tanks. She's adorable.

Tee hee, theres no escape from me, Vanilla! xp

Guppies are the greatest! I have billions of them @.@ I'm am actually going down to all males because I am leaving for college in less then a year, and I can only have 10 gallon tanks in the dorm, so I have to down size soon...

I usually use my excesive amounts of fry (or the deformed ones) as food for my Bettas. They love the chase! Then the bigger ones I trade with friends (I got them into Guppies twisted ) or they go off to my favorite LFS
