Gloria shook off her umbrella and sat it by the door before she followed the man into the kitchen. Her eyes widened at the very sleek and efficient cooking space.
"Oh what a lovely kitchen!" It was a lot more modern than her own. "My oven still has dials. But I find it wonderfully accurate!" She laughed a bit at all the digital appliances. She didn't even use a microwave because she had a toaster oven.
"Sorry I am so early.." Gloria seated herself at the island and once more fixed her large mass of white hair, smoothing it to make sure there weren't stray pieces flying about her head. With a glance at the clock she realized it wasn't that early.

"You're not that early" Benjamin assured her gently "Besides with this weather I expected some of you to show up sooner than required just to avoid worsening weather. As he spoke the man poured water into a large cup ceramic mug. " I found over the years that hi-tech appliances prevented me from getting lost in writing and burning the house down." It was easier for him to admit his faults around Gloria becuase she seemed so much less likely to judge him than others, although he could always be wrong.
" How do you take your tea?" He inquired turning to face her while he asked the question?

Jerry and Alice walked on, heading a bit towards the house. At some point, they'd lost sight of Jackie, not really sure whether she was ahead or behind them as they arrived. The man glanced to Alice, hoping she'd knock or be able to open the door, as his free arm held the umbrella.
"Hopefully Ms. Jackie and Ms. Gloria got here okay."

In fact, Jackie had fallen behind at some time, when she had been distracted by a seashell lying on the ground a ways off. She had been passed, unknowingly, by Jerry and Alice as she picked up her new possesion. After admiring its smooth texture and pale gray color for a moment or so, she tucked it into her pocket and dashed gleefully after the two. Of course, her progress was slowed even more by her overwhelming urge to jump in any, and every, puddle she passed.
Finally, breathless from dashing through the rain, she arrived at the house to find Jerry and Alice already standing at the door.
"Sorry," she said with an apologetic grin, "I got held up a bit."

Alice reached out and knocked on the door. She missed the glance from Jerry, but since she had a free arm and he didn't, it made the most sense to her that she should be the one to knock on the door.
Before she could respond to Jerry's comment, Jackie joined them. "Don't worry," Alice said, offering a smile. "We had just arrived ourselves." She looked thoughtful for a moment. "I wonder if Gloria made it here already." The weather wasn't that nice today, and Gloria was much older than the rest of them. She hoped the woman made it to the house all right.

Leaving Gloria with her tea Benjamin turned and headed out of the warm and cozy kitchen to answer the knock at the door. He thought he heard multiple voices coming from beyond the door which hopefully meant the rest of the group had made it there togeather. It'd be best to get things started soon, the workshop generally took a while and Benjamin was hoping that by the time they were done there'd be a lull in the rain for the attendees to get back to their cabins in. The weather report wasn't calling for a major squall or anything. He didn't mind hosting the workshop in his home but was uncomfortable at the idea of having people mill about his home all day.
A moment later the slowly aging redhead grasped the door handle,turned it and smoothly pulled the door open. He was pleased to find his hopes realized and that the remainder of the attendees were waiting behind it for him. "Welcome all of you but please come in before we get to more pleasantries." Warm and dry people were generally more pleasant to be around and while the weather wasn't wicked out Benajamin had no intention of forcing them to stand out in it pointlessly while they talked.

Jerry nodded, letting go of Alice's arm and moving back so she and Jackie could enter first. He shook off his umbrella away from the door and closed it up neatly. "SHall I leave this outside or do you have a place you like them to be hanged?" the man inquired of Benjamin.

Alice was more than happy to enter the house and get away from the cold, wet weather outdoors. "It's nice to meet you," she greeted Benajamin, feeling a little awkward in front of this famous person. Nervousness started to creep up her spine and into the back of his mind now that they were finally at the workshop. What if her writing was an utter disappointment in the eyes of this person? What if he decided he had made a mistake picking her to attend the workshop and kicked her out?
She had to shake the thoughts from her mind. Letting such negativity dominate her mind would do little to help her improve through the workshop. There was a lot for her to learn from Benajamin, so she fixed a positive attitude into her mind.

Jackie stepped into the house after Alice, briefly attempting not to let her broad grin totally dominate her face. Finally realizing that her efforts were in vain, she resigned herself to looking like a geek, and warmly greeted the legendary author. "Really just fantastic to meet you," she said enthusiastically, unable to mask her excitement.

"It's a pleasure to meet all of you," Benjamin assured them, truly this was quite the interesting bunch and he reveled at what might lay in store for them. And as long as none of them tried to seduce him the man was quite content to enjoy their adoration, he'd earned it after all. Still he understood if any of them were nervous or awkward for a little while, he'd been the same way himself once upon a time.
" The mud room is just to your left" he pointed to the room's door for Jerry's sake. " There should be a row of hooks on one wall to hang your umbrella on in there." That said the redhead then gestured towards the kitchen. " And now to the kitchen for refreshments before the serious work begins." He'd get them warm and comfy, give them his little lecture and then let them begin to actually write the stories they would soon begin to live.Benjamin might be being sneaky right now but he could at least play at being hospitable before dropping them off in a strange world in a few days.

"Do you have cocoa?" Alice asked curiously, hoping it didn't sound rude. How embarrassing it would be to sound rude in front such an accomplished writer! After walking through the rain to get here, she felt like having something hot to drink to help warm her up. But she had never been much of a tea or coffee drinker. If that was all he had, then she would just have to settle for one or the other. She started toward the kitchen that Benjamin had indicated.

Jerry nodded politely, dashing off to the mud room to leave his umbrella. He returned after a while to follow Alice and Benjamin to the kitchen. After all, that was where they were being sent, right?

It had taken a little longer than he'd planned but eventually Benjamin had made sure all the workshop attendees were mostly warm and dry. He'd kept talk in the kitchen light and purely social not wanting to go into lecture mode until the workshop officially began. Besides it gave him a chance to further examine them if only for a few minutes. Enough time to build some opinions on them without getting so close that he'd regret what must be done to them later. the redhead also hoped it would loosen the small group up a bit so they weren't so tense and didn't feel the need to be too formal.
From there Benjamin lead them into the parlour and after letting them all settle down at a place where he'd provided writing materials the famous writer had given a small speech not unlike the one from his previous workshop. That was followed by answering any questions thrown at him he could and another small talk about the point of the workshop itself and what he expected to be written.
" I do look forward to seeing the worlds you all create," he assured them " The hints of the stories that can unfold when you put your mind to it." If there was a strange gleam in his eyes and a bit too assertive a lilt in his voice Benjamin could only hope those things went unnoticed in the charged atmosphere.
