Main Attributes: Unknown population, Sea Dwellers, closed society
Available Ranks: Warrior, Priest, Companion, Watchmen, Common person, Changling
Special:

The Celph are part humanoid part cephalopod. In terms of technology, their abilities are debatable. Sceptics believe they are simply gifted showmen and scavengers of past technologies, while others claim they are the most advanced of all the races inhabiting Kannavahmen. Either way, the technology the Celph use is elegant and far the understanding of even the most knowledgeable of Common Scientists.

Physical Appearance & Clothing:

(taken from the Staff section)
    ● The start as an egg. The eggs can be plain or with decorative bits on them. You can do a diamond and gold encrusted egg if you feel that way inclined.
    ● They're Half Human half Octopus (normally).
    ● For Customs/ Special things you can have squid/ other Cephalopod lower halves if you want. I'm actually planning a Blanket Octopus some time.
    ● 8 or 7 tentacles are usually the norm. But feel free to have less if you want to have a war wounded Celph/ genetic freak
    ● They lay eggs. Octopus eggs look like this: [x] [x] [x] . Celph eggs look very much the same. You can show some human parts inside the egg if you want. Or they could just be little shiny tube things. It’s up to you.
    ● Females have smaller horns or none. Males have longer antler looking horns. Horns develop around the late teens.
    ● Colour wise, anything is possible on the tentacles. Patterns, rainbow, monocolour, tricolor, whatever.
    ● Their hair is black, but is isn't unheard of for a Celph to bleach their hair. This is only socially acceptable in Warriors and Priests. They also tie all kinds of fun stuff in their hair
    ● Clothes could be anything that isn't too restrictive. They still have to swim. With that said, feel free to completely disregard that and make elaborate out fits if you want.

Society & Jobs:

About Priests (over view)
(if your Celph is a priest, you are more then welcome to expand on things)

Ok, so if he’s a proper priest (not just a spirit guide or some sort of fortune teller), he’d be a little bit like the Garrion priests who live apart from the society, usually in temples or some sort of compound outside/sheltered from everyone else. In the case of the Celph, the temples can be anything from giant under water buildings to sea caves or coral shelters.

Also, priests may be solo in areas that are more remote. They would still have their own holy space, but would not share this with anyone else.

In terms of what they actually do, it varies from temple to temple. As a rule, there will be involved in at least daily prayers (usually morning, evening and at midday), the giving of offerings (depending on the god/spirit it could be anything from valuable items to live sacrifices) and undertaking rituals.

A god like Zazzar would demand living scarfices. This could be anything form fish/sea creatures to humanoid beings (usually Common, but in dire circumstances Celph or Garrion have been given).

A god like Shrow or TB would want occasional living sacrifices, but rarely and usually only animals.

The various spirits (usually ancestors , animals or the care takers of various natural elements or geographical features [coral reefs, volcanic fields, deep sea trenches] require offerings of valuables, parts of oneself (blood, hair, ink, teeth) or at least daily prayers. These spirits are ‘day to day’ guardians and bringers of good luck/protection/success/ect. A normal house hold can worship the spirits. The actual Gods are for getting favour in bigger endeavours and life changing things. You also have to go to a temple/ see priests to worship the Gods.

In a public aspect, Celph priests help the public worship their gods but giving their (the public) offerings to the gods, leading them in prayer and undertaking public rituals during festivals and other celebrations.

In a more private/ priest only side of things, the Celph priests would perform daily prayers as a group or by themselves (depending on how the ‘temple’ operates). Constant learning and meditation would take place. What happens day to day would vary for different gods.

Some may also have contact with the Garrion during rituals. Because they both worship several of the same gods, Celph and Garrion will occasionally come together for joined ceremonies. Usually the Celph lead this endeavours (the Celph are considered to be closer to the gods), with the Garrion severing as assistances. Garrion living in more remote islands or the polar region may also have regular contact with the Celph, both for religious and social reasons. The priests are held in a higher regard during these meets then the Celph Lay folk.

User Asked Questions

The Celph can function on land, right? It's sort of a stupid question, but I figure rather safe than sorry?

Celph can sort of function on land. They're amphibious to an extent, but their lung capacity for breathing through their month/nose is limited, so they can't do large amounts of physical activity. They're also easily dehydrated since they loose vast amounts of fluid through their tentacles, and their gills are very fragile and can be damaged by extended periods of exposure to air.

Some (very few) Celph also have the ability to 'shape shift' into a semi bipedal Common form. These individuals (when shifted) tend to have extremely pale, slightly slimy skin, marks on their neck where their gills should be and the dark, pupilless eyes with the third lid they have in water. They also tend to only do this at night because of they are susceptible to sun light and the same dehydration they would have when in their normal form.

Would a Celph child only get adopted by one of their own race? (Since both of the nations seem to be officially ignoring their existance, would they be found in a regular adoption centre, a blackmarket one or not at all?) Likewise (tying in with previous question), would a Celph child be affiliated with either nation, the Resistance or would it have no affiliations with either?

It's more likely a Celph child would be adopted by it's own race, but with the Black Market dealers this isn't a rule (a Celph would never be found in a 'legal' adoption center). If it was adopted by a Common, officially the child would have to be a secret and kept from the public (unless it's one of the land walkers...which I don't know if I mentioned in anything here...?).
Both nations are ignoring them...for now :dundunduuuun:

If she was adopted by a Garrion, the Celph child would be treated quite well and accepted into the Garrion society (unless the Garrion lives in major Common society, then the same rules as the Common apply).

ANNND.
It would be the child's decision as to whether or not they wanted to be involved in the war or have an opinion. They may choose to support a nation, or the resistance, but they wont be able to actually fight in the war for a while yet (not long until they can though).

They could choose to be completely neutral as well.

In future when we introduce several Meta Plots, Celph will have more roles in Common society

What's the deal with their horns? Do they all have them? Some of them? Only males?

Celph are the 'children' of this dude (Zazzar). The antlers/horns are just an ego trip of his.

And: Females have smaller horns or none (like antlers, or small cow horns). Males have longer horns, usually resembling antlers. Horns develop around the late teens. Male Celph horns can grow to over a metre in length and if left unkempt, often become homes for a variety of seacritters. Females tend to decorate theirs with all kinds of shiny things.

(and yes, lady cows do have horns sometimes).
