Hello
In my high school's World Literature Class we had to read a story about Siddhartha Gautama. Our class was learning about ancient India and came across the subject Buddhism and Hinduism. This story was a short Novel describing Siddhartha's life. The book was very interesting and he described Siddhartha's journey to enlightenment. The Novel to me was very good and had great inside into his beliefs. I was very in to the book because it went in to detail describing how Siddhartha wasn't a god but a normal human. It showed his teachers that he meet on his journey. But the book kinda was confusing because it was written by a Christian German author from a time period no where near Siddhartha. How should i know if the whole story was false or not.

So i was wondering if you have read this book and you like it or not...?

Hey if you have any other good articles or Books that you would recommend i would really like to read them...
i like books ._.

The issue comes insomuch as this: Siddhartha, the book's protagonist, isn't Gautama. 3nodding It's someone else's journey, not the Buddha's. Though the Buddha is mentioned in the book (or at least a man by the same name with a similar life philosophy, at any rate), Siddhartha ain't him. biggrin

If you want a real historical run through the Buddha's life, I recommend Karen Armstrong's version of it. Much like Hesse, she's a Catholic (or a former one, at any rate - a nun, no less) writing years divorced from the time of Buddha Gautama, but a woman who is in love with religious scholarship as a whole. Her version of his life is fantastic, and really no-nonsense. 3nodding
