Choose your crew wisely, make sure you have a well named person but make sure they know what they're doing!
Remember, I used to be a rookie once. I was well known but I did make a mistake when I helped run a guild---

When you start a new guild for the first time, in my case NGWE, it is very hard to know what you're doing. Most effort goes into thinking up PPV names, title names, special features, and setting it all up. Or at least it did for me. Then you put a first card together, and things should fall into place. However, if you are a new owner, you often give in to demands of people if they are pushy enough (for example, Chrono posted in ALOT of threads, and forced his way into the world title picture by being active, which is fair enough).
However unless you keep in contact with them, things can go haywire. You need a clear view on things at all times. For example, when Chrono and Snypa became joint champs and took over, I knew it was out of my control and closed the guild (although, in hindsight, I could have rode it out). As owner you need to keep a tight reign on things, and to put ideas across aswell as being able to adapt. It's HARD.
This is why vice-captains and crew are hired, to sort all this out. However, unless you are careful, it can go wrong, and the crew can start booking themselves title shots. They become a dictatorship, with that elite group getting the best, and calling all the shots without listening to the others. For the point (I think I had one): It's not always the owners fault, not entirely.
If you make a mistake fine we're all entitled to it. (See Criticism)

Don't make people crew members/people of high rank because they say 'Oh I could help make sure no one ******** up'. Only promote people who can be trusted and have experience.

Also have active crew members. Your Vice captain needs to be someone you think will be able to take over if you went inactive. The Vice Captain also needs to be someone that has ideas and every now and then have them disagree with you. Also get someone that cares about the guild because if that person doesn't really believe in the guild then their is no point in keeping that person as Vice captain.
