((Yes I have! One of my favourite of Terry Pratchett's books.))
Kotatsu finished her dessert, then startled. "Oh! That thing! At home! The... meeting-ish thing!" She looked awfully worried. Maladict looked up and said "What are you talking about?" Then he remembered Kotatsu had left home when she had arranged another pet of hers to visit. "Oh." he said. "The visitor." he shot Sandie an annoyed and amused look that summed up what he thought of Kotatsu forgetting her appointments perfectly. "Well I suppose we have to go back and check on him." he said reluctantly. Hopping off his chair at the table, he found himself face-to-face with Dav, who had been sniffing him apparently. Bristling, he then settled. The dragon wasn't threatening him by sniffing, after all. "Hello, there." he drawled. "Nice to see you're getting to know me." Kotatsu looked apologetically at Jayde. "I really hate to eat and run, but it does make me feel guilty leaving a visitor at home. Feel free to visit us anytime, though! Our doors are always open!" She smiled. Maladict nodded. "It was a very nice meal. My compliments to the chefs." He bowed a short farewell and left, scolding Kotatsu for her horrible memory while failing to point out entirely that he forgot they were due for a visit as well.

Dav just grinned a big, toothy grin up at maladict, wishing that there were a little fruit left for him. Those hopes were dashed, however, when the dream stood and rushed to the door, following his owner. Maybe if he could get his tongue up there to the table...
"Well, if you have company then by all means," Jayde said with a smile, beginning to clear the dishes.
"And be careful telling her to come any time," grumbled the bounty hunter, doing the heavy lifting. "She'll take you up on the offer."
Sandy, the last one to speak, looked up sheepishly at Maladict and Kotatsu. "It was a pleasure to have you over," she added softly. "Please come again." She walked them to the door and watched silently as they left.

It had been several days since dinner with Maladict and Kotatsu-chan, and Jayde was still fussing, cleaning up the house. I wondered why this was, and I asked her about it.
"It was fun having company," she finally told me. "We have so many people/critters here already, it's a rare treat. I'm hoping that I'll be more prepared for next time."
"Prepared for what? Company?" I turned and crouched down a little when I heard Damen behind me.
"They came over here last time--that means it's our turn to go eat their food. I mean, visit."
"Damen, will you please shut up?" Jayde said with a sweet smile.
"You know what they say; better to look like a bounty hunter than open your mouth and remove all doubt." Jayde and I both winced as Lyra came in the room, fighting with Damen as always.
"That's not how it goes, cat!" The mistress of the house tuned them out with practiced ease and turned her attention back to me.
"I'm hoping that next time the house will be better prepared for company. Maybe we'll have ky and some of her dreams over!" I swallowed hard.
"All of her dreams?" I said softly. To this, she laughed. d
"Well, we can invite them all, but I doubt they all will come. Don't worry." With that strange gesture that people do to animals, she patted me on the head and continued to clean.
People were so strange.

{As told by Sandie}
"Jayde? Jayde?" I had woken to find the bed cold and empty, much to my surprise. Usually I was clinging to the edge, fighting Jayde and several of my other housemates for space.
But I was alone this morning. I shook, attempting to rid myself of the sleep that had settled on me, and dashed down the stairs.
"Where is Miss Jayde?" I asked to an almost empty treehouse, slightly breathless. Damen looked up from what he was doing to give me a funny experssion.
"She's gone," he said as if I should know.
"Where to?" I demanded. Well...I tried to demand. It came out a little more forceful than most of my requests, but to the bounty hunter it was simply a squeak from a little cat-fox who didn't know what she wanted.
"Hell, I dunno," was all he told me before he went back to whatever it was he was doing. He'd been so head over heels for some girl back at CH that he didn't know if he was coming or going, much less if Miss Jayde was coming or going. So I sighed heavily and rushed back up the stairs, all the way up, this time to the roof where I found Davexander.
He was very large. When he turned his massive brown eyes on me, I stopped in my tracks and swallowed hard. Keeping in mind that Miss Jayde always said he was like a very large, friendly dog, I slowly crept up to him.
"Can I help you little one?" He asked, much friendlier than the bounty hunter.
"I'm looking for Miss Jayde," I said meekly, my voice just over a whisper. Wherever his ears were, they must've been good, 'cause he heard me without trouble. He sighed heavily, ruffling my fur with his quite toasty breath and he looked out over the ocean.
"She has gone for a few days, I think," he told me.
"Why?" There was a pause that stretched between us as he thought about what to tell me. I took another step closer to him--as close as I would dare.
"She is...not feeling well," was what he finally said. "She has gone to spend some time with friends. I think maybe she needs a break from all of the stress of the islands."
I couldn't believe it. To me, the islands and the treehouse meant Jayde. How could they possibly exist without her? But they did.
"Who-who will take care of us?" To this, he smiled a big toothy smile which had me taking back my meager step.
"I believe that Lady Kylin will be taking us to her home."
Oh, my, I thought, remembering all of the dreams that were over at her home. This would be...interesting.
Oh, Jayde! Come home soon!

{As told by Sandie}
We'd been at Miss Kylins house for a few days now when Lyra returned, sullen. It was about mid-day, so I had expected to find him just waking up now instead of coming home after running errands.
"Lyra," I said softly, "are you alright?"
"Yes," he said shortly, not looking down at me. "I'm fine. Wheres Ky?" I had to hurry to catch up with his long strides as he made his way through the shop.
"Um, she's in the back, watching Corli and Antares," I managed while trying to catch my breath. His legs were so much longer than mine! I was all but running to stay at his heels.
Suddenly, he stopped, sending me crashing into his calves. I tried not to make too much noise as I righted myself, trying to smooth down my ruffled fur as he finally turned to look at me.
"Sandie," he said, softly this time, "did you ever see anyone outside the treehouse?" I had to stop and think about that, because it had been a while.
"Y-yes," I slowly responded. "While Miss Jayde was up one night, I could see that there was a strange shadow that would come and stand, just on the beach." At this point, my brow furrowed. "But everytime she would notice that I could see it, she'd make an excuse to take me somewhere. A midnight snack, or breakfast. What was that strange shadow?"
He stood for a moment, looking down at me and the silence seemed to stretch on and on.
I didn't say anything wrong, did I? I asked myself, hunching down a little.
But he just leaned down to pat the top of my head and walk away, not quite as quickly as before.
There was something amiss, and no one would bother to tell a little dream what it was.

{As told by Lyra}
As I walked away from Sandie, who was still looking up at me in confusion, I could feel the self-discust rising again. I had been the only one to not believe her...to call her crazy...
But Jayde wouldn't want me to tell the little ones that there had been a stalker coming outside the house, so I just kept walking.
