I find it very interesting that Man, through the werewolf, combined himself with such a beautiful creature in nature. The shapeshifter myths of Native Americans are my favorite because they show a deep connection with the animal world. I'm just curious what everyone else thinks, why do you think Man chose the wolf? Why not the bear? the deer? etc. I know there are other shapeshifter creatures, but why does the wolf seem held above the rest? Why has the werewolf endured through the centuries?

I think man respects the wolf and the chosen form of the shape shifter is because, when you look at it, we are strong creatures and so is the wolf. They are dealing with endangerment and we are always at war with someone or something. I'm sure in the past when we didn't have the technology we have today, the wolf's howl could have helped humans to find deer and food. The wolf is a mighty animal and they were used like dogs to help us hunt. That bond has passed down from human and wolf to human and dog. Yet we still hunt them. When you think of the werewolf, you think of a human able to turn into something more powerful then a normal human. Maybe more harsh and protective though. Many humans want to be a stronger race. And so we have.
But that's what I think. Sorry if it's a little confusing....

not confusing ^_^ I totally know what you mean. I love the strength of the wolf, and the werewolf. I also think Man chose the wolf because of the community wolves share. They always take care of each other, even pups that are in no way related to certain members are kept fed and safe by all members.

Yeah. We are kind of more related to the wolf in those ways and that they care for everyone in their pack and we help out those in our community. I love wolves. Werewolves are a bit creepy... Thank you Harry Potter. But they are cool.

Wolves were my first love. Ever since reading Julie of the Wolves and White Fang when I was really young, I've loved wolves, canines in general actually, but especially wolves. Werewolves are really cool though, you should check out other stories about them. Harry Potter doesn't portray a very cool image of Lycans, unfortunately.

I need to find more wolf books. I've read The Sight and I think one or two other wolf books. I don't think I've read any werewolf books. I'm more of a cat person but I love wolves. I don't think I have role-played a werewolf yet... No. Harry Potter doesn't. Lupin was cool though.

Yay cats! biggrin they are awesome also. Have you read the Warriors books? I haven't yet, but my friends who love cats say they're awesome. I gotta read the Sight too, I've heard. I haven't really read alot of specifically werewolf books, mostly general shapeshifter stuff. Ropeplaying as a werewolf is my favorite though.
and Lupin was a beast! ....literally XD

Yes I have read the Warriors books. All but most of the manga and Bluestar's Prophecy. The Sight is really good.
