Jane had run until his small, toddler legs just about gave out on him. Curled beneath one of the decorative tables in the garden, he shook and sobbed. The noises he made were dry and rasping, but despite his distress, no tears had appeared in his eyes as of yet.

He had been frightened. The last thing he could remember was being awoken to a horrible sound, the indescribable shriek of Withrow wrapped in anger. Jane had never seen her that way before. So far, she had kept a stern, but reasonable way about handling him. The way she touched was sometimes rough, but she never seemed to mean it.

This time was different. He couldn't describe it, but every sense in him told him to flee when she had started toward him, wild-eyed and heavy breath. He was breathing heavy himself now, panting, choking. His orange eyes peered out beneath a curtain of heavy gray hair across the garden, looking for any sign of Withrow's ankles. Or her cane. So far, there seemed to be nothing, and maybe he'd be safe here, tucked into a patch of clover beneath the table.

There was dirt all over him, but he was hardly paying attention. It smelled, but not unpleasantly. Yes. Maybe he could just stay and live here for a while.

The garden was where Elisa spent most of her time when she wasn’t bothering Icky when mommy wasn't home. She loved gardens mostly because of all the flowers, which she thought were very pretty, and since she was a Pretty, it was only fitting that she surround herself with them. Pretty things need to stick together.

It was also here that had most of her tea parties. She was a great hostess, of course. At least she thought so. She mostly hosted her tea parties for her stuffties as well as Icky when she had something on him. Who needs blackmail when you can have a tea party? That’s obviously more fun.

Today, Elisa had a little white table set up with five plate settings. She picked up her pink porcelain tea pot and began to pour for her stuffed bunny when she heard a sort of rasping noise. She wasn't aware that anyone was around or even where that sound was truly coming from, but she didn't appreciate whatever it was. It was interrupting her tea party.

Unless they wanted to join...?

But she didn't know what or who was out there. Whatever it was, she was going to find out.

"Hello? Who out there?" the child called sternly as she gazed about the garden.

"Hello? Who out there?"

Jane froze stock-still at the sound of the voice, every muscle in his little body bunching up. He shuffled slightly, shouldering a wing over his face. Maybe if he was very still and very quiet... he wouldn't be noticed.

But whatever it was, it didn't sound like Withrow. Time passed and the little creature slowly recovered from his sniveling, as most children at that age do. Curiosity won over and he crawled forward on his hands and knees to look up from under his table. It might look like a rock under the table had taken a life all its own. Not too far away, there was a smudge of orange, a stark contrast to the green and white surroundings. Was there a person there?

Jane just wasn't used to people yet. Withrow was a very private person and he'd seen very little outside of the walls of her apartment. If it weren't for the cat door set in the front, he would have never escaped in the first place. Now, he just sat, trying to figure out whether he should call out or not.

It was probably just better he stay here for now. He didn't want to make anyone else angry at him.
