Welcome to a short history lesson,
first off I must tell you that the things I share here are to be kept in the back of your minds. Why? Because History tends to repeat itself, and not all history dies out over time. It's purely informational, therefore it tends to be important (other wise I wouldn't have wasted my time to type it up dear reader). It's not very long, so sit back and enjoy my tale.

Mystery is the beginning~
In our world there was no deity who created the planet, there was only an element. The first, original essence, the one of whom is responsible for life and everything in it. Mystery is unpredictable and uncontrollable, and from it all the elements came into being. First light and dark, then water and earth, finally fire and air. Somewhere along all of these creations deities were created, and over time, mystery itself began to take on a life of its own, often manifesting itself inside the denizens of the world. Mystery is an uncontrollable substance, it has always existed and cannot truly be killed. Any who are of Mystery can be pulled in and out of the time line without warning. As easily as mystery can give, it can take.

We are born...
Knowing what Mystery is capable of, it should not surprise you that we all came from it as well. We may never know if it took years or seconds to happen, because no one was really there you see. Let me tell you though, that we were born out of the elements. Yes, I did say born and I cannot explain how. We do not grow up and train to master our elements, we are born with the abilities. Using an element is as easy as walking, however our level of control and power with it depends on the bloodline. As with most things, over time people chose to marry those of other elements, have children who may be born into their, or their spouses element. And over time many of the power they possessed became weaker. However, there were families who chose only to marry those of their own element, and those families had more power, more control. And over time, these families became known as Royalty.

Borne they were Creatures =
It also should not surprise you by this point in the slightest that over time new species were created. Some of them came out of mystery such as Giants, some came out of death like the banshee, but a few started out as diseases such as vampyrism. Each has it's own unique strengths and weaknesses, and no matter what species they are it all comes down to their element. How were they born? Were they Fire-borne? Water-borne? Depending on how you are born into this elemental world your species may be be affected by your element. A wood elf would not survive long as a Fire-borne.

Over time-
As civilization moved forward social rankings came into being and so did the beginnings of war and strife. For centuries those of different elements battled one another, each element wanting more territory, wealth, and power. Over centuries alliances were forged and broken, time and time again fights occurred throughout the land for various reasons. The battles were gruesome and bloody, and it was not until The Principa Rerum treaty was forged.

Principa Rerum~
Was the document that on the eve of the New Year six Kings and Queens signed in order to bring peace to the world. The document read that under one monarch they would all live in peace, and that the Monarch to rule them all would be chosen by election of the other royals. And so the first King, Nocolas Thaty I came into power. To enforce this treaty all of the other Kings and Queens lowered their status to that of Prince and Princesses, so that only the one they agreed to be led under had the privilege of being a monarch.
To aid the King or Queen in power to maintain control over all six of the elements, a ceremony was created the Elementi Avarice. To give the current monarch power over every element.

Elementi Avarice...
The ceremony is ancient and extremely powerful. In the presence of the deity Krishnaw the monarch who is to take the throne is to stand before all the royal families. When they each in turn pledge their allegiance to him, they also offer up a small dose of their power. The monarch must stand in the middle of all the royalty, as they each end their vow they must send a strong elemental attack at the monarch. It will not harm him under the deities protection, rather that element will be born in him or her to a small degree.
However, if any royal were to come and pull away from the alliance, they could choose to take their piece of power back and the monarch would be without it but retain the others.

Eclipsed Elements =
Light and Dark are known as the Eclipsed elements and have always been extremely rare. However I am not here to tell you just that they are rare, I am here to tell you how they vanished. During the second reign under the Principa Rerum.
It is said that a young woman visited the Castle where almost all of the Light-borne lived and that she and all of the Light-borne were never seen again.
It is also said that a few years later that a young man who appeared ageless showed up in the deepest of the Dark-borne's cave homes and that none of them were ever seen again as well.
Now I know it sounds drastic when I say the Light and Dark-borne were never seen again, but I never said that they were dead. No, though I cannot tell you how it happened or who those two were, those who had been Borne became Born. What do I mean? Their elemental powers were taken away. The individuals lived, probably married into other elemental families, but no one was ever Borne into Light or Dark again.

Sanguis Donum -
The ritual known as Sanguis Donum was created during the early years of life, however it was never performed until the First Year of King Colm Zanna's and Queen Ashe's united reign.
The ceremony's purpose was to bypass the god Krishna, the deity of creation's will. In other words, it is to create life. It is so complex and demands such a level of intensity that none have dared to use it. It can only be performed using the ceremonial sword which was hidden inside the ruins of Atlantis. By spilling blood with the blade the ritual begins, blood is also the first offering that must be presented.
Next comes the offering of Earth, Fire, Water, and Air all in pure form. Pure as in taken directly from the Prince or Princess of that element who hold the strongest connection to that element. During the ritual the element borne who connect strongest will lose their connection for the entirety of the ceremony. The will also have no choice, once the ceremony starts the magic will literally take that essence from them without consent or concern. Others also in those elements will also be taken from if the casters of the ritual see the need for the increased levels.
All elements must be present to complete this ritual. Therefore lastly the elements of Light and Dark must also be taken to complete it. Light to give Conscience, Dark to make human.

Newblood Release ~
Many years ago the Eclipsed Elements were taken, leaving many holes in the souls of this worlds people as the Light and Dark Borne lost the largest part of themselves.
The Ashe in one of her previous hosts had been from Light, and used Mystery to keep it all for herself as she sucked it out of her people.
Colm was of dark, and when Ashe placed Mystery within him to restore rational thought to the newborn vampire, he unintentionally sucked it from his people.
The Eclipsed Elements were taken and hidden inside the two monarchs until after they performed the Sanguis Donum and destroyed by Krinsha, the elements they harbored were released back into the hearts of the descendants of the Light and Dark Borne.
Almost all except the royal families have traces of light and dark in them. It's all a matter of choice. Do you chose to listen to the new urges in your soul to follow dark or possibly light? If you choose to follow the new power you will lose the old. There is no turning back.
