Shrantic Fresnel Shrantic I have not heard good things about the Mini-14. I've been told they're inaccurate, unreliable, and not worth the price tag. However, that's just what I have heard; I have never shot a Mini-14. Really, I think you should go with an SKS if you want the same sort of gun for a better price. They're cheap, reliable, and passably accurate out to 150 yards. However, if you must have a rifle in .223, the AR-18 and Remington 7615P are both good alternatives. Though, the 7615P is pump-action. 7615's were MSRP'd well into AR-15 territory, and since they're discontinued, I doubt they got any cheaper. OBJECTION!That is used to be low-end AR-15 territory.

You could easily get an AR-180B for that price.

You could easily get an AR-180B for that price. What's the difference between the AR-15 and the AR-180? After Stoner made the AR-10 and AR-15, he made the AR-16, and told Armalite to go ******** themselves. Then Arthur Miller downsized the AR-16 in .308 to the AR-18 in .223. Like the original AR-15, it mounts no scopes known to man except the one Armalite made for it, it runs on a 3-piece gas piston, it's pretty accurate, for stamped sheet metal, breakdown is still retard-simple, except this time the few tiny little parts you have to remove for a total breakdown of the rifle can be replaced by any well-stocked hardware store, without any need to send out to get new parts from the manufacturer. It used to have a folding stock, but apparently that's one thing Stoner couldn't design for s**t. The AR-180B was updated and modernized from the AR-18, with a fixed stock, no automatic fire feature, AR-15 standard sights (the original had shitty stamps), trigger mechanism, and mag release, a polymer lower, and the ability to take almost any STANAG mags. It's worlds better than the original. I've heard it's a pretty good rifle, but not expert-high-end. It is, however, hardy and easily repaired, making it a pretty good survivalist's rifle. There appear to be plans in the making for an AR-180 model with picatinny rails on it. Definitely for a scope, possibly for accessories as well. Also, Tapco or ATI or somebody makes a side-folding stock for it, if you want that feature back.
