It seems a bit wrong in some way. I mean... this seems like such a positive time for me. It surprises me when others don't feel the same

I don't care much for the holidays, being a bit of a black sheep. Or at least feeling like one.

I'm more psyched about getting smashed on New Year's Eve.

Oh, it itself is rather positive, but all the build-up is so stressful that when it comes, all I want to do is flop. And if I didn't have to spend so much energy celebrating my holiday and theirs (multiple times, I might add!), I probably could.

I'm looking forward to that as well! I have recently fallen in love with peppermint schnappes and hot chocolate!

I think its more an excuse to be happy... and I just feel like taking all the excuses I can get. I mean why not be happy???
... Though again why should I need an excuse like new years to get smashed... Oh yah alcoholism gonk

I only drink to excess maybe two or three times a year. New Year's Eve is one of those times. Friends, booze, and video games. I bet that's what Heaven is like.

I only become negative after listening to a marathon of Christmas music for five hours.

And THIS, my friends, is why I will never work retail.

That does sound nice smile
I'm still trying to figure out what to excess is. I am one of the lucky people who don't get hangovers.

I find holloween to be a be my favorite drinking occasion. People dressed up in costumes running around in the dark of night collecting candy. I think my heaven would probably be filled with candy. Friends and acting without consequences like getting fat or cavities and being able to wear whatever I want constantly.

@ Azana: I'm pretty sure my work usually plays a mixture of oldies and alternative music.

I work retail, and it has ruined xmas music and people are just generally rude and short on patients.. not to mention people drive like assholes and traffic.

Whenever the song "It's the most wonderful time of the year..." comes on at my job it makes me laugh..

I consider excess to be "legally drunk". I've never had a stereotypical hangover, but I have been a little drunk the next morning. It also makes my energy feel icky for a day or so. Then again, I usually only drink malt beverages and clear liquors. The color of the alcohol relates to the severity of the hangover. Darker usually means worse hangover.

I never have and never will work for corporate giants. My family just loves seasonal music.

I've never had a breathalizer to be able to tell if I was legally drunk.
I usually feel extremely energetic the day after. Revitalized almost. I also only drink mixed drinks/liquor
Generally Vodka so that may be part of the reason why I don't get hangovers. I never heard the bit about dark liquor. Any other nifty facts?
From what I know of hangovers they are a product of dehydration. I could go into all the reasons... but eh. Some of its caused by the retention of poisons that are produced by liquor so my theory is that I drink so rarely and I stay hydrated while drinking, usually use responsible methods so I don't get any side affects. Bread and water helps, the bread forms a lining along your intestines which may help calm any upsetness
I'm sure I've passed the legal limit for consumption... not like I'm really complaining about the lack of symptoms

@Zurine... Look up Bob Rivers and Twisted Christmas. That tends to make christmas songs more... digestible?

I almost got dead by a stupid-a** driver on Christmas. Had I not pulled off the road to let the a*****e by, thus slowing him down, he would have been hit head-on by an oncoming car when he tried to pass me, or swerved back into the lane, knocking me off the road and down into a ravine. Instead, he almost killed another set of people when he tried passing some dude on a curved hill. People are stupid.

One of the few things I hate about Christmas is the "Happy Birthday Jesus" bullshit.

Also, there's a billboard on the way back from my family's house that says, "Jesus is the reason for the season" above a picture of a kid. The sign advertises an exterminating company and has a picture of a dead bug as a logo. It seems a bit...odd to me.

I'm not really a fan of any holidays anymore. It used to be about being happy with your family, but now it's more like a competition for who can stay in the same room as the most critical family member the longest.

Needless to say, I look forward to working on that day when I can--on the actual xmas day, I spend it with my immediate family, so the public beatings are somewhat lessened by the food and youngsters.

Hangovers are partially caused by dehydration, but the tannins and other chemicals in the liquor play a role. Darker liquors have more "impurities" than clearer liquors. Vodka is essentially alcohol and water. Very few impurities. Whisky, however, has tannins from the barrels it was aged in as well as alcohol, water, and probably some other things.

It doesn't matter what alcohol you consume, it's going to inhibit you the same way the morning after, the only difference is that the headache and all that will be less with clearer liquor. So I've read, anyway.

I've never had a breathalizer or blood test either, but I've been drunk enough that I wouldn't dare try to operate any kind of machinery. I retain most of my objectivity and reason when inebriated, so I'm thankful for that. I'm pretty sure that when you start to experience the room moving when you move about then you are above the legal limit.
