Out of all the opals I own, I never conditioned any and they are even more beautiful than the day I bought them. Yes, they are my stone therefore it is fine to buy them and wear safely...
Bubba's dad is a jeweler, and always kept any opals he had not used yet in vials with some kind of oil in it to keep them 'moist' He had said they aill get little microscopic fractures which make them 'break'. Who knows, maybe it has to do with the whole living in the desert and dry air conditions. Never thought to ask him since I have no plans/expectaions/desire to live anywhere else, rofl
I remember one opal he had that was absolutely gorgeous. It was an uncut black opal... I kept trying to think of a reason for him to give it to me, I must have known I could not buy an opal for myself lol (Bubba is almost 10, and his dad and I parted ways while I was still expecting him, so my memory is probably somewhat fuzzy on what he might have said about the ownership superstitions)
Of course most of the time I cannot get the rings I have off, making it kind of a moot point rofl
