"I guess it really isn't just me who had problems with their flit. I'm hoping Meisir may grow out of this if I can find him a proper mate, but it looks like that won't happen any time soon. Firelizard eggs are beyond my dream of ever obtaining on my own, and my parents probably could not afford a second one for me. No...not that I'm complaining. I'm sorry."
He'd been rambling, and that wasn't really polite to do even if it was for the sake of conversation. He didn't think it was impolite out of respect for her rank or anything, but more or less impolite because he was rambling. No one liked anyone who talked a lot.
"I met this ma-well, young man I guess? He's many Turns older than I am, yet still young enough to Stand. His name is Jericho, we met rather in the same way I came over to talk with you. Meisir took off after something and he happened to be in the way at the time. He seems to be rather out of season for Candidates, as it's only been a little over half a Turn right? I didn't think new people would be brought in until eggs were actually on the Sands?"
That is how it had been for Panata, so he assumed that's how it had been for the others who weren't Weyrbrats. The whole point of Search was to only get as many as there were for the eggs, right? He never was sure about that.

Amelia chuckled, "Nah, you're definitely not the only one. Ulysses pinches things, Aestaesar is so flightly she can't concentrate and my bronze is... possessive. Really, the best behaved one is my gold, Altaica." She gestured as she spoke the gold's name and she obligingly winged over to land on the goldrider's outstretched arm to chirp questioningly at the girl.
Smiling at her little friend, the Weyrling shrugged to indicate the flit should curl about her shoulders, and she did. "Jericho? Ah, yes! I met him too. A shipbuilder, yes? Ulysses had stolen a timepiece of his and I returned that to him." She laughed softly, "I have no idea. I've always lived at the Weyr and new Candidate seem to appear all the time... they have to be trained, first, right? And the more variety in Candidates, the better for the dragons to choose from when they do hatch. Was that your first time on the Sands? This last clutch?"
Sharath padded over to shove the gold off of Amelia's shoulder and set her own head there, whuffling softly to garner attention she felt was lacking. Really... Hers spoke to too many people sometimes.

"This last time I stood...yes, it was my first time on the Sands. Before then I had been at the Hall and hadn't gotten searched out, so . . . "
Panata looked down at the ground as he spoke, still feeling a little burn of shame against his cheeks over how he'd acted on the Sands. Both times he thought he was helping someone, and both times he'd gotten mauled to the point where the last one nearly cost him his life. It was funny to think that the other boy who had been with him and was trying to help too had actually Impressed because of his bravery, yet Panata got the short end of it and was treated with scorn.
"I'm looking forward to standing on the Sands for the next clutch, because I believe that even for someone like me there may be a dragon. It may not happen any time soon, and I may end up being alone when I finally age out, but I think I'm fine with that."
He really was okay, he had Meisir and was slowly making friends with people who didn't know about the hatching/hadn't been paying much attention, so Panata was gradually getting over the shock of it all. Still didn't mean that he was okay with dragons, for the moment that Sharath got closer his face paled slightly.
Meisir himself seemed to notice a sight change when the Gold dragon came over, though whatever concerns he may have had were quickly overcome with little bits of dragon love. If the Brown could talk he probably would be spouting love sonnets to honor the Golden Queen's beauty, but since he couldn't he instead was content on sending excited and happy feelings outward.

She smiled, "Well, I hope you find Yours, Panata. I didn't think it was as poignant a thing as riders made it out to before I Impressed. I understand now." Turning, she cradled the gold's head and kissed her nose, "And even if you aren't chosen by a dragon, I'm sure the Weyr would still welcome you."
Sharath whuffed at Panata, ruffling her wings as she regarded the nervous boy. Tell him I will not eat him, Mine. He is so nervous... but his little brown seems quite inclined to worship me. I approve.
Amelia chuckled at that and tilted her head to look at Panata, "Sharath says she won't eat and to stop being so nervous. She also approves of your flit."

"That seems to be a common opinion of dragons on Meisir, at least the female dragons anyway. Many of the males dislike when he's around, and certainly a good deal of riders find him troublesome. I am quite thankful that you seem to be so understanding, but I can see how you would be with such a group of your own. Does it tiring caring for so many of them all at once, as well as with Sharath? Or do they help you clean and care for her?"
Panata remembered how Meisir had been more than happy to help him clean Raith when he had been assigned to do so, almost to the point of over eagerness. He was slightly sure that Meisir would do that again for almost any female dragon, but he wasn't about to test that theory out on anyone. The last thing he wanted was for violence to come about because of it, or at least more chores and harder work detail. He simply wasn't up for something like that.

"I wonder why the riders find him troublesome..." She tilted her head, curious. "Maybe he's too distracting? Mm.. for my own flits, they mostly take care of themselves. They're fun to play with when I've got a moment and are sort of like an extended communication network but they don't bother me too much unless Nebulos - the bronze - is trying to enforce his authority over the others. Altaica's pretty gentle, she helps me do things and Ulysses is really good at fetching but... that's about it." She chuckled, "I keep little bowls of food out for them to eat from if they haven't found their own meals and I don't have to oil them... it's really quite easy to care for flits."

"I'm not sure either why they think that way, perhaps its how he bothers the Greens? I've yet to meet a dragon who has a problem with his constant praise though, as it seems even Golds are not immune to it."
Panata gave a soft chuckle over knowing that even the haughty Queen loved the Brown flitt's praise, considering it was honest praise that didn't have the slightest bit of motive behind it. If there was one thing Panata could love about Meisir was the fact that he didn't try to hide what it was he wanted - he showed it off fairly well.
"But as for caring for him, I probably spoiled Meisir entirely too much when he first came from his shell. Since I was from the Hold he was the closest thing to a dragon I could get my hands on, and I just wanted to spoil him as best I could. He's plenty healthy for it, but this personality of his . . . "
He chuckled again, the gentle sound turning the flit's attention back to him and away from Sharath. He chirped and mounted further against Panata's body, happiness leaking around.
"But...I do believe I must be going. I didn't mean to disturb you from your studies, I mostly just wanted to come and retrieve Meisir before we could cause any trouble. I hope we didn't bother you too much?"
He seemed so sincere yet at the same time all the more ready to go.

Amelia chuckled, "I have a feeling I'd be in trouble if I spoiled Mine any more then I already do." She reached up then and pulled Sharath's nose down so she could kiss the dragon's cheek, "I do not blame you for taking care of what you love - that's how it should be."
At his question, she shook her head, "Nah, waking me up was probably a good idea, actually. I should head back to the barracks anyway. Finish my studying there maybe. Take care, Panata~ And good luck with Meisir. He's quite the bachelor." She waved farewell and then turned to gather up her things before heading off, Sharath padding alongside her rider with a faint smirk on her lips.
