Since we three are rarely online all at the same time, I thought we could post our plotting ideas here. Just...y'know. A thought.

Yes. At least that much. And it'd be good to know how everyone relates to one another. I mean, sure they band together against everyone else, but I'm interested in the group dynamic among the three. Grooups of three are given to breaking into groups of two against one, and all that. Or something. I dunno.
Also, this is the hatching story I wrote, but I'm perfectly all right with changing it so it meshes with everyone else's.

Four eggs was so few, and they were so small! Jasrai thought cynically to herself that she had chosen an unfortunate clutch to make her bargain with herself over. The odds of her Impressing anything in a clutch of four was very slim indeed. Nevertheless, she stood on the hot sands, ignoring the glares of male candidates who clearly felt that she didn't belong on the sands at a hatching that didn't include a queen egg. She couldn't explain to them that this would be her last hatching, and then she would go home and they wouldn't have to worry about her Impressing their dragons. She wasn't going to argue with them. She was allowed to be here, and she was going to stand.

To avoid causing a commotion, however, Jasrai stood near the back of the candidates ringing the four eggs. It seemed to her that they probably shouldn't be standing so close to them. If she was a newly-hatched dragonet, she wouldn't like to be surrounded by so many people, staring at her so intently. She wasn't a dragonet, of course, so the thought might be totally ridiculous, but it hardly mattered as an egg burst spectacularly and a green dragonet shook herself off. Her eyes were ruby red and her expression ferocious. At the same time another egg cracked. It's occupant - another green - lurched free of the egg and moved toward the boys ringing the eggs like a drunken bumblebee.

The pale green dragonet that had hatched first hissed at her sibling and began to walk purposefully through the ranks of candidates, fanning her stubby wings to encourage them to clear a path and snapping at the fingers of anyone who tried to touch her. One boy quite deliberately planted himself in her path, as though he planned to force an Impression and Jasrai bit back a cry of warning. She watched as the green bowled him over and snarled in his face while he was down. After that the pale green's speed increased as she examined the candidates and clearly found them all lacking. Meanwhile a third egg hatched and the second dragonet's motions became frenzied.

Jasrai's instinct for self-preservation had decided to take a holiday it seemed, as she moved to intercept the course of the frenzied green dragonet, who was causing the candidates to spread out to avoid being plowed into. Her attention was wholly on the distressed green and didn't notice when the first dragonet came barreling into her with an outraged squeak.

What are you doing, Jasrai? Look at me! I am your Roseth and you are my Jasrai and she can't have you, an alto voice in Jasrai's head said.

Before Jasrai could recover from her shock of having a baby green dragon crouched over her chest Roseth spread her wings and hissed ferociously at her distraught clutchmate, warning her away with every tool at her disposal. Jasrai heard Roseth's dialogue: This human is mine! I will bite you hard if you try to take her. She doesn't want you anyway.

"Roseth, I am thrilled that you chose me, but I can't breathe with you sitting on my chest like that," Jasrai said breathlessly.

It took the young green another few moments to decide that no one else was going to make an attempt to steal her bondmate before she removed herself and agreed to be led over to feed. When asked if she was interested in seeing her clutchmates hatch, she was dismissive: I have already claimed the best human. What care I for lesser creatures?

After about a million years, here's my part:

There had been only four eggs, and one of the hatchlings had just vanished between at the end of a trail of shaken and bleeding candidates. He was pretty sure that some of them were dead or dying, but frankly he couldn’t care less. There were still two greens on the sands yet to choose their riders, and he was no more going to let himself be put off them than he would stand outside during Threadfall. He was sick of failing, he was tired of walking off the sands alone...

He was angry.

Y’kar clenched his fists, willing the dragonets to know him for who he truly was. The world was unfair, seemed set against him, and he hated most of the people in it. Who did they think they were, boasting over the big dragons they Impressed, the positions they had been given? He was ten times smarter than most of them and the world ignored him, he never got anything, ever! If only one of these would choose him he would make sure they got what they wanted in life, no matter what it took, no matter what he had to do... What he really truly wanted was a dragon who understood him, a dragon with brains, a dragon who wasn’t going to trot around the place simpering pathetically at everyone, what he wanted was -

"You! Move!"

The cry startled him back to awareness just in time to dive out of the way of the vicious green who had screamed so loudly when she burst out of her shell; had he not moved at that very moment he would probably have become another casualty of this bloody hatching.

"I am Kannaroth, you are Mine now."

Pushing himself to his knees, Yisenkar - Y’kar - found himself face to face with another of the dragonets, and his heart seemed to freeze for a moment as he stared into her swirling red eyes. Anger was there, but though the young creature’s burning rage he could see intelligence to match his own... No. He couldn’t just see it, he could feel it. All of it. She had spoken to him. She had chosen him.

"We are good for one another Mine," the dragonet went on, confirming what the skinny youth already knew in his heart. "There are a lot of things I want to do and have, and you will help me get them and achieve them... Starting with food, feed me now Mine!"

There was no denying that demand; her hunger was his hunger, her desires were his desires. Yes, this was the dragon for him, he was the rider for her. Whatever she wanted, she would have even if he had to take it away from somebody else to give it to her. Without a word, he didn’t need to speak for her to know his heart and mind as well as he knew them himself, Y’kar climbed back to his feet and, not bothering to so much as glance at those still on the sands, he led the green towards her first meal, towards their future. The Weyr, he concluded internally with a brief smirk, was in very deep trouble if it got in their way.

I had imagined Kanna as being the last to hatch for some reason (not necessereily the last to choose) but I'm happy to change if needed ^^

Also, I'll tweak the above writing to be 'two greens still to choose' because Roseth has already left at this stage?

^^ Tweaked

I'm fine with Kanna being the last to hatch. I'll tweak mine when I get back from (trying to make) a snow Buddha. I think I intended the second dragon to hatch to be the one who went between.

Cool! XD That sounds awesome.

I don't think I had any idea of its hatching position, second is fine by me!

So, Kanna hatches last, but Impresses third, it looks like? And the one who went between did so after Roseth Impressed, but before Kanna? Sounds good. Next time I see Malik I'll point her this way and see if she has anything to add.

^^ Awesomeness!
PostPosted: Mon Feb 08, 2010 10:01 am

Thought I'd do an update similar to the one the Song Clutch did ^^

- Kannaroth remains slightly to the side of her sisters. She adores them, but always puts herself first in the end. her priorities go: Kannaroth, then her sisters and her rider, then her sister's riders and her flitts. Everyone else is pretty well scorned.

Y'kar hasn't really managed to sidle up to anyone important yet but he's managed to make a friend or two outside their group. He is completely open with the others now, and prioritizes their interests somewhat beneath Kannaroth's, and a very small amount beneath his own.

- Kannaroth and Y'kar have both taken well to all the theory they've been asked to master; Kannaroth forgets it just like any dragon, but can be reminded very swiftly when she has got to grips with an idea once.

Y'kar has struggled with strap making; he is just about adequate now but it takes him a long time to make a solid set of straps, leaving him with less time for other things.

Kannaroth has come out as small as was expected; she will come out at around 6' at the shoulder fully grown. This along with her light build make her speed and agility superb, but her endurance terrible. In order to last even a third of a Threadfall, she will have to manage her energy extremely carefully, if she doesn't watch it she will be worn out and clumsy before it's time for her to land.

Good idea. I meant to do one of those in the journal, but it didn't quite work out. Now I'll try again.

+ Jasrai is still overweight. There are muscles forming under the fat, but there's basically no change in her overall appearance except that her face is less round and she has cheekbones more often than she doesn't.

+ Jasrai has mostly gotten over her self-pitying phase, but she did go through one. It got bad enough that she actually talked to a mindhealer several times, but she didn't really talk about it with anyone else, because she felt (and still feels) that she should be able to handle her own problems without becoming a nuisance to others.

+ The fact that she still gets winded during laps and has difficulty with some of the strength training has not stopped Jasrai from attempting difficult things with Roseth, since that's mostly Roseth doing all the hard work anyway.

+ Roseth remains competitive, but less so when with her sisters than with outsiders. She has also decided that she will speak to her clutchmates' riders as well as her own, but no one else.

+ During lessons Roseth holds back, hoping to one day astound their instructor. However, she does not remember drills very well, and does not like to be corrected.

+ Roseth is not as agile as Kannaroth, nor does she have Nellath's endurance, but she likes to take risks. In fact, Jasrai and Roseth both practice a lot outside of lessons, and in secret they practice stunts and trick-riding.

After forever and a.. year, pretty much lol?

Quote:

Once the ear-piercing scream had been done with, Alirien noted the dragonet looked extremely displeased. Hm, a bit like himself really, he hadn't wanted to be there in the first place and forced to stand around all of the other boys. They couldn't be trusted! His attention was really only half on the hatchling, only sparing another look at the sounds of what had to be a painful pair of mauling or tramplings. Well.. they should have moved out of her way then, really. No one should be fool enough to not move aside for an angry female, she had every right to do it. It was probably this like-minded thought that gave the hatchling a glimpse of something similar, familiar to her own mind. Yes, they should have moved. She did have the right to make them get out of her way if they wouldn't do it! His own loyalty, and bitterness at being taken away from his sisters probably fueled the fire, and soon Alirien found himself looking back towards the sands only to see whirling red-orange eyes locked on him mere feet away.

They won't take us from our sisters, A'li mine. Never. Get away from them Mine, we're too good for any of them! Our sisters need us with them now.

T'was all I really had. Only the screech Nellath gave had caught much of mister 'I hate men's' attention onto the proceeding itself so I can work any tweakings into it to mesh with you guys relatively easily I think?

Alirien hadn't paid much heed to the Hatching itself for the order, more interested on keeping his distance from his fellow man as it were so Nellath's place in Hatching order can be anywhere that suits.

-Adds in as you guys have as well into one hopefully neat post lol-

~ A'li has cut the bangs from his hair but kept the ponytail, if a bit shorter than it used to be as he is still letting go of his old family and the sisters he traded in for his new partner and her clutchmates.

~ Nellath is indeed living up to the wherdragon name, but has become quite proud of her bulk. The size makes her seem all that more intimidating, which is just what she wants.

~ A'li hasn't really tried to branch out of their small group looking for friends, too drawn into his work to keep up with the lessons as he can't quite keep up with some of Nellath's demands, like matching her in swimming.

~ Nellath is amused at her dear sister's following of flits and will often send a few light teases Kannaroth's way.

~ Nellath doesn't admit it but she is not thrilled at her bulk making her speed in gliding and flight be less than perfect. She nags A'li as often as possible to get in some private work to try and built her speed up instead of just her endurance, making A'li more often than not very tired for work during the daylight hours.

~ During lessons Nellath pushes herself, sometimes a little too far, to show their instructor that she is more than bulk and teeth.
