1...2...3...
GO READ HERODOTUS. I don't like Egyptian material and I really kinda don't like Egypt (yes, I've been there).
Dammit, I just wrote an essay about the parallels between Egyptian and Greek religion.
why do you kids refuse to read?

Dammit, I just wrote an essay about the parallels between Egyptian and Greek religion. why do you kids refuse to read? In his defense, not all of us know exactly what to read. You can just type "Egyptian beliefs" into Google and hope for the best, but not every book or website it comes up with is going to be very reliable. It's a big time saver to just ask other people and hope that they know a good website or two to look up. And I just looked up Herodotus, and quite frankly it seems like a lot to go through when all you want is a basic overview of Egyptian beliefs.
Do you have a link to your essay? I'd like to read it.

The Egyptians have a complex religion featuring many gods and goddesses that change depending on the kingdom era you're looking at.
It's hard to find a lot of substantial material on them, considering each source will most likely concentrate on a different era which means different gods which means different rituals and so on.
If it helps, there is a consistent god: Ra or Amon/Amun Ra. The sun god, but also kinda like a Zeus or Jupiter. Except he doesn't constantly cheat on his wife...

Wow. Anticupid16 hit a bit of it, but it also changed by what city you lived in. Egyptologists suggest that folks even practiced a "folk religion" at home with different gods or ancestor worship.
Where's 4shi when you need her? She'll be able to point you to a *ton* of sources to research if you like.

The Kemetic Orthodoxy site has a recommended reading list you may want to check out, if it is something that you are interested in knowing more about.

ncsweet The Kemetic Orthodoxy site has a recommended reading list you may want to check out, if it is something that you are interested in knowing more about. I was going to recommend this list, but you beat me to it. Stay away from Budge for the most part; he's outdated and his translations weren't accurate by today's academic standards. I'm also reluctant to recommend Greek and Roman accounts because they are known for their bias. Depending on what you want to know about, I'll see what else I can scrounge up. There are a few good sites on the net for beginners.
