In theory, finding Riven was an excellent idea. In execution, however, it was a whole lot easier said than done. Astor had not been out of the house for even five minutes before he realized that he didn't actually have any idea where or how to find the purple man - in the past he'd just had the good fortune of running into him whenever he vaguely thought he needed him. Of course, he didn't think that the real world worked like that on a regular basis, so this brought him back to the fact that he had no idea where the hell Riven (or any other Fa'e, for that matter) had gone off to.
The only real thing left to do was go straight to HQ. Apparently, back in the day (before Chaos ate it,) it had been quite the happening place. Of course, Astor had nothing but hearsay to base this on, but today he felt intelligent and he wasn't about to let a minor thing like lack of contact information hold him back.
The way back to HQ seemed longer in daylight, but then again it was cold outside and he wasn't running this time around. Of course, it wasn't really worth it to run, because as he discovered when he got there, HQ looked... pretty much exactly how he'd left it. In fact, it was a whole lot more disconcerting in the daytime, because the shadows didn't even try to make sense with the lighting.
"Uh, hello?" called Astor, cautiously beginning to circle the building. "Anyone here?"

Riven was, in fact, there - and had been there for some time. If he'd been human he would have had dark circles under his eyes; as it was, the Spirit Fa'e was clearly flagging, his skin paling and cloudy, his tail drooping and wings barely visible - the victim of single-minded study over the course of several days.
This was his field, his area of mastery; theoretically, no-one but Chaos itself should know as much about Chaotic influence and power than Riven. It was what he was created to do, to know, to handle. And yet...
... and yet he hadn't been able to make so much as a dent in the Absence-aura choking the HQ, nor had he been able to learn where the point of entry was.
The faint sound of a voice - a real voice - made Riven look up wearily. Hello, he began, but nothing came out. He swallowed, cleared his throat, tried again.
"Hello?"

Well, someone had answered them. Astor forced himself to smile weakly. That was a start. Now he had to figure out where that person was, and who that person was. He thought it sounded a little bit like Riven, but he didn't know Riven well enough to really feel certain. On a world as large as Gaia, who was to say that two people couldn't have similar sounding voices?
He decided to chance it anyway. "Riven?" he called, moving in the direction of the voice. "Is that you?"
This place gave him the creeps. Maybe it was different if you'd known what it looked like before - easier to stomach. Or maybe it was worse. The teen moved slowly - he had a bad feeling and a sinking suspicion that he was walking through a mine field (what about the crows? Did they poop chaos? What if you stepped in it? Surely it messed up more than just your shoes... Yes, he really was considering this.)
Finally, he was able to locate the other Fa'e, and it was, in fact, Riven. Astor beamed, proud of himself. Mission accomplished, and his head was still attached. Oh, wait, why had he come here in the first place? Oh. Right.
"I had a dream about Airi," he said, clearly spooked, although not nearly quite as frantic as he had been when he woke up. "A bad one."
