Hikaro smiled down at the phoenix carefully guarded in his embrace. Worries found their way so deeply into his love's frame. Like knots in wood, he was born with them, and would remain with them forever. Hikaro had come to love even the knarled crevices, because Klonoa shone beautifully inside and out.
"How many times must I tell you I'd never leave you? Even if I pass beyond this realm of living I'd stay beside you, you must trust me."

Hikaro paused to think of his next words. For a moment he wished he was Haku. The blue and green phoenix always seemed to know what to say.

"You're growing up fast as well. Things won't always be this severed. You're a strong boy. The fact you've made it this far is proof that you can live on and through anything. Houses are broken even by people growing up and moving away. People die. It is something that happens, but you can't let it become the end of your world. You must always rebuild, make it stronger."

Hikaro stopped before he started to sound depressing, as though he were setting Klonoa up for all these things. He tightened his grip on the phoenix slightly.

Klonoa hugged onto the golden phoenix and smiled best he could and said with a firm and loving voice, "You won't die. You'll stay immortal with me, forever." He nodded and his violet lashes caressed his face as he closed his eyes. A lock of his silky hair fell to cover his face moderately and he grinned and gently leaned up to kiss his lover. "I trust you Hikaro but... no nevermind." He wanted Hikaro to close the gap between their lips because to Klonoa it meant something special.

"Don't be afraid to speak your mind, love." He said quietly, reaching up to cup Klonoa's face. He lifted that perfectly cherubim face to his own and pressed a warm kiss to those violet lips. Hikaro's fingers snuck around to bury themselves in the fluffy violet hair, that was such a contrast to the stony element that made itself so prevalent on Klonoa's body. Hikaro loved everything about Klonoa, from his insecurities, to the way that maturity shone through his almost childish voice. If he wanted to, he could speak forever on the way Klonoa's dark violet eyes shone when he got excited about something, or the way he fretted when worried.

Fire sparked off in Hikaro's body, burning right behind his lips and running in molten strips down his frame. Klonoa was the only one who incited such fire, but it was too soon to follow the paths they lead down. No, it was most certainly inappropriate. The kiss was bittersweat to the sunshine phoenix. When Klonoa pulled back Hikaro looked almost in pain as he locked down the part of him that wanted desperately to ravish his young beloved.

There are times when the saying 'an angel sent from Heaven' means sweet or has something to do with someone special being more important then anyone else in the entire world. In this case... Klonoa was literally this... except he was a phoenix sent from Heaven. The traditional element of a phoenix is fire, and yet the patterns and colors of his skin wove themsleves in a way that resembled stone and marble, an element nearly immortal against the raging flame. His gleaming violet eyes were soft and sweet at the touch of his lover, the one whom he'd spent every day with, the one with whom he wanted to spend forever and eternity with. As his delicate and graceful frame pulled away just enough to break the kiss he saw the look on Hikaro's face. He, still being a teen only, could not tell what feelings were hidden behind those eyes. He wanted desperately to push away any sadness and give Hikaro everything and anything he desired, but he knew he could not. There was so much to be had and only so much to give and he knew better then to get mushy and cliche.

He then remembered the anime Zan had showed him once upon a time. In the hours of the early morning, she had woken up her favorite son and had taken his tiny child form into her arms and had sat with him in front of the television. Together they watched a new obsession of hers, called Loveless. Zan had been so fond of it, watching intently as she had kept her arms wrapped tight around her darling stone colored son. At the end of the show, with tears staining her face, she ruffled his hair and said, 'I hope you find someone like that someday.' And then with a laugh she added, 'As long as they aren't liars like Soubi was!' And together Klonoa had laughed with his mother... that had been one of the only peaceful moments in Klonoa's life... well the only with his mother anyway. All his days with Hikaro were like something of a dream and each time he saw Hikaro he just seemed to melt, doing without thinking. Anything and everything.

Klonoa wondered right now, why he was thinking these things and why he'd begun to get nervous. He had realized he was nervous when he had been biting his lower lip and had his eyes locked onto Hikaro. His gentle arms were still hugging tightly onto the sunshine Hououza and with a caressing gesturing of a nuzzle to Hikaro's cheek Klonoa said, "Why do your eyes look that way? I don't understand." Again, the radiating innocence that was impossible not to love. It was so easy to love this gorgeous boy, but so hard to earn his own love... and now there was only one who merited it, and that one person was the one with whom he was entwined.

Each phoenix was in their own way sent from heaven. Born of beings tied to the sky, each had lived a life, and died, perhaps ascending to the heavens they had fallen from before. Like autumn leaves they drifted back down again, feathers to be ressurected by the moon, identical in looks to the way they once were but blank slates to memory thought and decision. They were empty to begin again and find their faltering steps again to whichever path they chose and were lead down. Some of them had guides, Klonoa had Hikaro, Hikaro his father.

There are so many layers of truth to everything. Honesty as in answering a question, answering a question fully, and offering all knowlege in truth. When did simply not answering become a lie? No untruths were spoken, nothing was uttered at all. Was speaking no truth better than a lie? A saying went 'what you don't know cannot hurt you.' but that was a lie, blaring out irony with large red letters.

But telling the truth could hurt as well.

"Why do your eyes look that way? I don't understand."

Of course he couldn't understand. Klonoa was too young to experience for himself what Hikaro was going through, nor did he particularly care to reveal what he thought to be weakness on his own part, the undeniable urge to procreate. His body was hard wired toward it, though all rational thought told him to wait.

Klonoa's innocence brought out the protector in him, he wanted to shield his young love as best he could, from all evils and rude shocks, but this one came directly from himself. Hikaro loathed it, for being innapropriate, and loathed it for it feeling so right.
"I'm sorry my dearest." Hikaro said, leaning up to press a chaste kiss to the top of his purple head. What would he say next? He was fighting desire? He wanted to press Klonoa to the floor and take him as his then and there? He ached for the Noa's touch, to contact him where none others were allowed? All of them true, none of them felt right to say.
But Hikaro was always the honest one.
"I love you so much, and you bring me so much joy, I want to share it with you. Not the emotional joy- that you and I both know, but the physical one, and that we cannot foray to just yet."

He spoke his mind.

Klonoa had looked upon his lover with a feeling of patience as he watched Hikaro try to find the answer the youth had asked for. And then when Hikaro apologized and kissed his head, Klonoa seemed a little dumbfounded as to what had just happened. His body was telling him to wait patiently for an answer but he wanted to badly to know why Hikaro was sorry. He snuggled up against the other sunshine Hououza and then when Hikaro spoke of a physical joy Klonoa was shoved into further confusion.

As a young teen, he did not know the entent of his own feelings and need. And yet he knew he felt them anyway. His need was more shallow then Hikaro's though, or so he believed. Klonoa's desires were to press himself close to his lover and stay in his arms. They were not desires to share a pleasureable feeling as the one that Hikaro was dreaming of.

Although this is not to say the violet phoenix of Heaven did not feel these at all. He was still a youth and still experiencing the 'joy' of puberty and so in the dead of night sometimes he would wake drenched in sweat with an urging need he felt in every fiber of himself and he had no idea what to do about it except try to let it pass... though it would still return sometimes.

Now he realised he sense this feeling in Hikaro, just as needy if not more and Hikaro's answer seemed to make Klonoa want to know more. He bit his lower lip unhappily, wondering if he should tell Hikaro of his nights and if it had any relation to this, or if he could help in any way. He stayed silent pondering and looking away from Hikaro, he didn't have an answer.

Hikaro watched on in silence the various emotions that crossed his love's face. It seemed his answer merely anguished the teen. He didn't expect Klonoa to fully understand, and couldn't really elaborate any further without getting into unneccesary details. Klonoa kept his emotions out on his sleeves, and it was all too easy for the older phoenix to know what he was feeling, if not the extent of his thoughts.

One day though, Klonoa would have to learn the truth of passion and reproduction, and without Zan...He was basically the only one who could teach the marble youth. After all, there wasn't really a phoenix sex ed class, now was there?

Really, the only reason Hikaro knew is because of his father, and the fact for a period of time he became obsessed with learning the ins and outs of it, and read through many many of Haku's books. The blue phoenix knew it all in childhood, but he read nearly constantly. Hikaro nearly chuckled with fond memories of sharing a room with Haku.

Looking back down to Klonoa, he saw the telltale signs of a secret that fought to be revealed. Leaning down, he lightly touched foreheads with Klonoa.
"What bothers you?" He asked quietly.

Inside the marble teenage youth he was raging with himself in utter confusion and (as stated) anguish. His violet eyes were flickering with a wonder he could not explain, flickering with a feeling he did not want to release. But why? What reason did he have to hide anything at all from the sunshine Hououza? From the one he loved?

None at all. And he never would have a reason for Hikaro was gentle and kind with the boy and the boy found comfort and warmth in his arms. He found a security no longer to be found with his mother, and this feeling, all of his feelings, his entire soul; they belonged entirely to Hikaro now.

Klonoa was a bit startled as Hikaro touched his forehead to his own and he blinked furiously, trying to look in his eyes and loose himself there. But today he could not, too many battles in his body were conducting themselves and so he could merely licks his lips and bite his lower one once more. "A feeling. Your words..." He let out a sigh and went on. "Your words remind me of a feeling I have... sometimes."

A pale blush crept upon his statuette cheek and he wondered why it was something he would be embaressed about. He supposed if he knew why he'd be a lot smarter, but that fact was unimportant to him now. Only Hikaro mattered, now and forever.
