Rhia sighed softly, smiled weakly at him. Then it was over, and she could escape the death trap. She took her crutches and paused when she heard the thundering from off to the side and up. She raised a brow, and grinned, but followed Damian outside. She lifted the crutch up into the air, that she wasn't using for her bad leg, and immediately a cruising cab stopped at the curb. She shot a grin at Damian. "Being injured does have some advantages... shall we?" she murmured softly, her eyes laughing as she moved to the car. she leaned in through the open passenger window for a moment. "Can you take us a couple blocks down to Riverway drive, number 214?" she asked softly of the cab driver. He gave a sigh, but nodded. "I can take you. It ain't that far. The gent comin' with ye?" he asked in a low growl, flashing sharpened teeth. She frowned, slightly surprised, but nodded gratefully. "yes he is. He's... protecting me from one of the other officers... he's a nice cop... oddly... enough. So... Thanks." she murmured softly. The driver looked at her surprised. "Would it be Gardin?" he asked in his low growl. She nodded and he shook his head. "Hop in and I'll give ye the ride fer free. But hurry." he added, looking around her at Damian. She turned and grinned. "We've a ride." she said softly.

Damian gave a nod and opened the cab door for her. He couldn’t help but narrow his eyes as his ear flicked back looking at the cab driver. There was something . . . off about him. The driver’s scent wasn’t quite right, but the mixed odors of the cab masked whatever it was that put Damian on edge. He closed the door for Rhia and crossed to the other side of the cab to sit behind the driver. Damian opened the door and set one foot in the cab as Gradin burst through the front doors of the hospital hell bent on causing someone pain. Damian stiffened and parked himself in his seat. “You might want to step on it.” he suggested and the cab jerked away, leaving a pissed Gradin standing in the road. Damian smirked at the sight and watched as Gradin turned and ran towards the parking lot. It was then that he realized Gradin could technically pull them over if he wanted too . . . even though Tuan had finshed his business with Rhia, Gradin hadn’t finished his. Damian prayed they would reach Rhia’s apartment before Gradin caught up with them again, and hopefully the cab driver would also have time to escape. Damian turned to face front and let out a controlled sigh, being meticulous about his composure. Things had a habit of turning for the worst lately.

Rhia laughed softly at the look on Gardin's face. Then they were off. It only took them a couple minutes, even fighting the heavy flow of traffic. The cab driver pulled over in front of the old, beautiful victorian that was her home. She opened the door and slid out, smiling at the cabbie. "Thanks for the ride. Maybe next time I catch a cab, I'll have the pleasure of it being you who drives me. I'll give you a big tip." she murmured softly, smiling at him as she stepped away, and as Damian stepped out and away, tapped the hood. The cabbie sped off with a wave of farewell, and she turned to look back. There was no sign of Gardin. She turned to smile at Damian again. "So... this is... my home... it's a little shabby, but it's comfortable. There's even a couple guest rooms... I... mean... wow. That... nevermind..." she murmured softly, mentally kicking herself for sounding so... suggestive and ridiculous. She turned and started up the steps, slowly and painfully making her way up them. She pulled out her keys and unlocked the door, then paused. Something wasn't right... it smelled... almost different. Not quite, but just slightly, as if something had changed. She groaned softly. "Not again... Why do they keep choosing my house to break into?" she murmured softly to herself. She looked back at Damian sheepishly. "Would... you mind... pulling out your weapon? I know it sounds stupidly... overcautious but I can't tell if they're still here and... I dont' have a weapon... except... the crutches.." she said, her voice low, trying to make a joke, though she knew it fell flat. She wasn't really afraid, just frustrated and annoyed.

.:Damian Connell:.

Damian watched as the cab sped away. Looking down the street he sighed in relief that Gradin had not been able to follow them. He turned back to Rhia, she was already up the steps unlocking the door. He would have felt akward about the mention of guest rooms when he heard a chair move up stairs. At least Rhia had also sensed something wrong so he didn’t feel pushy as he headed up the steps, drawing his gun partially out of habit, partially out of Rhia’s request. “Stay here and move to the far side of the porch.” he whispered as he lightly touched her shoulder. Damian pressed his back against the wall as he nudged the door open.

With a soft creak it swung in and the scents of the house washed over him. More earth, spice and jasmine, it was wonderful, but also mixed with cleaning supplies, the tang of dust and the coarse scent of a male.
‘At least this one is human.’ he thought as he stepped cautiously into the house. Damian honed in on the male’s scent and followed the fading trail along the hall, through the living room and up the stairs. Luckily the scent was stale, though fresh enough to have been there only a few minutes before they arrived. Never the less, Damian followed it up the stairs, the rough texture made his nose wrinkle. He paused halfway up the steps, his ears twitched as he heard the faint sound of furniture scrapping across the floor. He took in a deep breath, his eyes narrowed in confusion. The scent was, and remained stale even if the thief had managed to stay in the house, his scent would become fresh, not faded. Damian blinked as a soft breeze carried cool night air through the upstairs hall and down the steps. He continued up the steps, following the stale trail to the back guest room and out the window. Damian sighed as he imagined the guy hopping on the tree branch outside and climbing his way down to the ground. His suspicion was confirmed as the tree reeked of the male’s stench. He turned and took another deep breath. No other scent was in the air though his body prickled with tension. He was sure, the intruder had just recently left. Damian sighed and holstered his gun. Rhia was safe for now, although if the local riff-raft had a habit of breaking into her home, he wasn’t sure for how long. Damian made his way down the steps back to the front door and leaned against the door frame. “Your house is clear, though I have a feeling we just missed catching him in the act.” he said smoothly as he looked over the injured girl.

Rhia had moved out of the doorway to hide against the wall. She listened in silence as he paused and took a deep breath, before moving up the stairs. She listened intently, then too heard the sound of furniture scraping across the floor. Then he started back down the stairs. She knew it was him, because no one had the exact same walk as another, and it sounded like him. She moved off of the wall with a slight backward thrust, propelling herself forward, and stood smiling at him. "My Hero... hungry? I think you've earned it." she murmured softly, as she slipped passed him through the door and headed down one of the halls, through a dining room, and into her haven. She smiled as she took in the gleaming counters and appliances, and took a deep breath, inhaling all the smells and textures. She frowned. It smelled odd in here too... She looked around, then her eyes narrowed on one spot in particular. Her eyes flashed. "He stole my... okay... it's okay... I'll buy a new one... when I can... I can't believe he broke into my house, to steal a seven hundred dollar cooking appliance, with food in it... figures. So much for the dinner I'd made... on to leftovers..." she murmured softly, fuming silently as she moved to the refrigerator. She peaked in and smiled. She turned and looked back at Damian. "Do you like Mexican? Or would you rather have Indian? Or even Irish. I've some corned beef in my other slow cooker. Or if you want you can skip dinner and go to desert. I've tons of homemade cakes and ice creams and pies. There's some apple cobbler with a container of my ice cream beside it in the large freezer in the storage room..." she offered with a slow, easy smile on her face. In her home, in her kitchen, she was always at ease. It was the easiest place in the world for her to be. "Sorry there aren't a whole lot of options. I'd had a small beef roast with vegetables in the main slow cooker, that had finished cooking only just before my class, so I turned it on low because I couldn't eat it, and figured when I got home before my shift I'd eat then... I hadn't expected to have... guests... tonight." she added, thinking again of the thief. She found it almost comical. He stole her food. She wondered if he'd found her stash upstairs. She hoped not. She'd have to check... but she'd avoid going up the stairs for as long as she could. She didn't want to go looking for her cash anyway. It made her worry if she took it out in plain sight. Better to keep it hidden, and check before she went to sleep. There were ways for her to check without her opening her little hidy hole.
