The trailers were funny,
the supporting cast is a party of hilarious actors,
and it seemed like a workable premise,
but this comedy was a real disappointment.
The first clue that this wasn’t going to work was that
Jeremy Piven is the star, but not the impressively
dynamic Piven of Entourage, the annoyingly cocky
Piven of everything else he’s ever done.
The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard is a half-baked
story about the owner of a used car lot that is
struggling to sell cars, so he brings in a renegade
sales team. That’s really about it. Neal Brennan,
one of the genius minds behind Chappelle’s Show,
made this movie and that would explain why it felt
like a really good 5-minute sketch stretched into a
90-minute movie. There are some very funny
moments in here, but they are just sight gags or
bawdy jokes. I wanted to like this more than I did,
but I couldn’t. The Goods just isn’t very good.
