(( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvdZaxwSxTU from Debussy's Children's Corner Suite. Don't be fooled by the title, I do not think kids could play any of the pieces. >.> Anyway I love how the idea of softly-falling snow is conveyed in this piece... it's the kind of weather I have in mind for this RP.)) Thanatos stood at the lip of the hill-cave, watching the snow drift down from the grey sky. He felt them on his nose and neck as tiny pulses of cold, and fervently hoped it would not storm.
This was neither his first winter nor the harshest he had been through - in fact, this one was pretty light - but he was worried for Gemini. It was a bad time to be expecting foals, when there was just soft bark, buds, moss and maybe a little dried grass to get by on.
Perhaps they'd even lose one, or all of the unborn foals.
The stallion shook is head quickly, clearing melted snow and these bad thoughts from his head. He would do his best to make sure the whole family got through winter... even if it meant hunting, exhausting an activity as it was at this time of the year. After one last glance at the cave surroundings, which were beautifully blanketed in white, he turned and headed back into the cave to join the rest of his family.

Deep within the cave, out of the reach of the wind's blustery fingers, Gemini sat curled on a nest, lost in thought, only one thing on her mind. At the least, she knew what was happening. She looked at the swell of her belly, a mixture of pride and fear in her eyes. She had never considered pregnancy before. Back home, it was for the lower kirin, bred purposely for purpose, not from affection. At her home, males had been separate from the females, and her human girl had refused breeding her. She sighed and settled her head onto her legs, facing the entrance. A few twists of the path blocked her view of the outside, and of Thanatos. Thanatos... Surely, he had allowed her to follow him this long, so he wouldn't leave now... Not when she needed someone most. Before the day was done, the eggs would come. She was sure of it.

The cave was not terribly deep, and it wasn't long before Than met his mate again. Even in this gloom, Gemini was as pretty as ever, pearls gleaming lustrously where they caught the light. He settled down next to her to keep her warm, nuzzling her belly affectionately.
"You never told me the story behind those pearls..."

At the sound of approaching hooves, Gemini picked up her head in anticipation. She was always amazed that having Than nearby made her so happy. It hadn't started out that way. He was just supposed to show her how to survive. He'd done that, but so much more too. Her tail flicked and she smiled, giggling softly at the nuzzle to her belly. No. He wouldn't leave her. How could he. "My pearls." She blinked slightly. It seemed so long ago that she had recieved them. So long... "They- ...They were a gift. From my human." She said softly, thinking back, eyes gazing past the rocky walls, past the days and months that seperated her from her girl. When had she last even thought of her girl back at the cities? She realized her wishes of returning there had faded over time. Somehow, she wasn't all that upset about it anymore either. "I never told you about them? Really?"
