My friend's theory: When Twilight spiked in popularity, it caused a lot of the more depressed kids (the ones who commit suicide) to grasp at another opportunity at the popular crowd by reading the books. At the same time, they were pushed away, though they held the same books as the popular people. Therefore, they felt that life was pointless and killed themselves
my friend is a semi-twilight fan. she didn't like the writing or context of it all, but liked the original idea for the story. she is an amateur writer, so she can pick up on things like this.
Or they became so enamored with an impossibly 'perfect' person and realizing that Eddy-poo isn't going to come and make thier lives wonderous.
