I liked gold/silver the best. You could beat the Johto league and then go do the Kanto. I also liked many of the Johto pokemon and you could still catch a good number of the orginals (which is what I don't like about D/P).

Yes, gold was just original like the Fire and leaf RE where it only limited to a few foreign pokes then focused on the region's main pokes. Also the ability to go to the kanto region was just as exciting since you get to challenge the 8 gyms there and face Red & Blue, the two bad @$$ trainers from the time of us veterans. Quite honestly that was a great feel of nostalgia when I entered Pallet town.
Goldn just had more replay value that no other version could top off.

My reasons for Red, Blue, Yellow. 1. Had more of a challenge. 2. Its a classic. 3. You could get a Pikachu to follow you in yellow.
