Welcome to December's Survival Topic:

Please make yourself at home with some light reading, modern--no matter from whence you come. It's all truly the same.

You've found yourself falling backwards in events, trying not to hurl your buckets, or maybe you just got thrown into something that should've just been left to rot. Either way, you've found yourself in a time in which you're definitely NOT familiar. So, survival is key.

The fascination with such an anomaly has been around since the beginning of time, or at the very least, guilt.

So, how does one survive time travel? Through cunning? Through dumb luck? Through heavy research and planning? Can you plan something as faulty as the time/space continuum? Bring your ideas to the table and talk about your plans, tactics, weapons.

Survivors Study, and Eat Their Wheaties.

Info --
Practically impossible to predict since every history is pretty much set in stone, or is it? The Time Machine suggests that man is capable of traveling back but is unable to change any part of any time set in stone.

"And I have by me, for my comfort, two strange white flowers - shriveled now, and brown and flat and brittle - to witness that even when mind and strength had gone, gratitude and mutual tenderness still lived on in the heart of man." ~Narrator, The Time Machine.

1. HOW did one travel backwards/forward in time and can you get back to your own time the same way?

2. WHEN are you?

3. WHERE are you?

4. THE PEOPLE. Are they civilized or savage? What language do they speak? Can you blend in? Are there even any people about?

Tactics --
* Try to blend in with the people...or dinosaurs, until you find a way back or you die. Or you could panic and kill yourself.
* Stay away from yourself/anyone you know in the past, lest you feel the urge to totally ******** up the future.

Quote:
"I don't know how you did it, but through your genius and remarkable eye for detail, you've survived this ordeal. You are brought before the queen, who grants you a royal pardon, and you live out the rest of your life (or at least until you work out how to get home) in this country with a cushy job. You clever devil!"

for my strategy in Time Travel Survival one must stop and think if there really is one catch-all way to survive a time travel ordeal. If one is thrown back in time one's tactics would depend on when, where, and how one went back. The same goes for if one travels to the future. In my opinion, it is more plausible to go BACK in time, rather than forward. A decent knowledge of history is always useful in these situations and knowing one's world geography is also quite helpful. Knowing several languages doesn't hurt either. Of course if one travels too far back one might end up in an era before there were even any humans around. Think dinosaurs. They may be neat in the movie, but if one found oneself staring down a Utahraptor one might not be so keen to jump up and down and giggle like a school girl pointing "Look at the pretty dinosaur!".

It all boils down a few key points:

1. HOW did one travel backwards/forward in time and can you get back to your own time the same way?

2. WHEN are you?

3. WHERE are you?

4. THE PEOPLE. Are they civilized or savage? What language do they speak? Can you blend in? Are there even any people about?

Hey! Easy!

You're going to be a geography student. . . Is THIS why? Just in case? ^_^.

Excellent questions!

Time Travel is a subject that I am quite passionate about along with a fellow mutual friend, Dee. In high school we used to debate if time travel were possible when we would go and who would we try to meet. As historians at heart (and me a geographer along with that) we always dreamed of the possibility to travel back in time and meet various historical figures of interest. For example, I have always wanted to meet Alexander the Great, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and Benjamin Franklin because they have always proved to be interesting characters to me.

I am of the opinion, though, that time travel is not and will never be possible. In order to travel back one would have to manage to travel faster than the speed of light. Once an object (or person) is going that fast it is speculated that it becomes pure energy. The question I ask is how does that energy convert back into its original form? Of course on this subject I am a willing listener when it comes to different theories and methods of time travel.

I had the BEST answer when I worked at Novartis: Go dressed in my clean uniform [white pants, shirt, blue booties, hair net, goggles, gloves] and go right to myself and say, "I am FROM the FUTURE! Yes, we all look like this because of the poisonous rays coming from the sun! Here, have some lottery numbers [FAKE] and just keep doing what you're doing!" Because I just want to ******** with myself. twisted

Time travel MIGHT be possible, but not in this lifetime because we all suck like that. That's a great answer, just wait for someone else to come up with it. ^_^. Dee =/= Me. I'm more for the conversations concerning the Ethics of time travel and the circumstances to boot. Would you change anything or would you find yourself unable to move anything around. Would you erase your own existence or be turned in to the loony bin?

My advice: Stay away from yourself/anyone you know in the past, lest you feel the urge to totally ******** up the future.

@ Day: I want to pretend to be a dinosaur. There's no point in NOT trying. :3
