Meisir's whole posture visibly drooped the moment he reside a slight chide from Raith, his wings folding against his body and his head moving down so it looked pressed against his chest. Overall he looked rather pathetic and small, a far cry from the confident pose he'd been holding mere seconds before, and Panata couldn't help but take glances back and forth between the rider, dragon, and his now shamed flit.

Meisir.

He sent the words and feelings gently to his little Brown, trying to reassure him, and slowly the small creature moved from his shoulder and into his lap, where a wedge-shaped head was pressed into Panata's armpit as though it would be the safest and most secure spot on all of Pern for Mesir at the moment. The boy had to smile and gently rub the ridges along his back, knowing this little moodswing may not last that long.

"It looks as though he got scolded by the two of you as well. I should apologize for it, he just seems to get so possessive and excited towards the things he loves. Well, at least the female things he loves. I don't think I've ever seen him stand in my defense before. I don't really expect him to, but it would be nice to have support in my corner every once in a while."

"Don't worry," L'thor smiled and made a dismissive gesture, "no harm done. I hope he and my boys make friends eventually but I suppose we can't expect them to adore one another right away. Hopefully Meisir will see there's pleanty of Raith to go around before long, and that these four aren't competing for her tail." He could just imagine the brown flitt trying to give chase next time his lifemate rose, and the mental picture made him chuckle softly.

"So tell me," L'thor winced slightly as River launched off his head; those claws were sharp, "how've you been since we last talked?" There was no sign on a gold getting ready to rise yet, so there was still time for Panata to overcome his fear of dragonets. He hoped the youth managed it, or at least managed to control it when the time did come to go back onto the sands. He was a nice boy, he deserved to Impress, but if he was so scared that his mind closed off his perfect match might not notice him in its haste to find a match.

"I...I'm getting comfortable around them enough that my heart doesn't race, at least. I was able to speak to a rider and her dragon normally the other day, despite the dragon being the young Queen, so I ...I think I'm doing okay. It...I'm still a little frightened of what they can do to me when they're young."

Panata had been taking strides to try and get over this sense of uneasiness around dragons, his comfort level with Raith an exception since he had never felt fear towards her after that day, but it seemed with others he would still have some troubles. Blue dragons altogether made him still pale where he stood, and now and then the sight of a Bronze made his stomach flop slightly, but for the better part of it he could still function and not want to seize up in horror.

"I know that it's all just accidents when it does happen, that they don't know any better, but its hard to tell my body what my mind knows sometimes. I'm perfectly fine around Blue and Bronze flits though, but I guess that's only because one of them would never be able to seriously injure me, even at their hatchings."

Ah yes, the young gold rider. L'thor smiled faintly to himself as he recalled his own meeting with her; big dragon or no, she'd seemed like a decent girl. She might well make a reasonable leader in turns to come. 'Might' was operative of course, but there was a decent chance, which was more than he could say for a lot of gold riders he'd seen in the past. "That's good," L'thor nodded, "and a bit of fear is understandable, reasonable too. I never was at the two hatchings I stood for, but then I'd been given no reason to be. People told horror stories of course but the worst I saw were a couple of quite minor lacerations; painful but not life threatening or even close, and it didn't happen to me! So long as you aren't rooted to the spot with terror, a bit of fear will keep you on your toes."

Hopefully he wouldn't need to be, hopefully the next clutch would be full of sweet and placid dragons, or at least very slow grumpy ones. Still, hope for the best and prepare for the worst, it did nobody any good to be complacent about the danger involved in hatchings... He'd been pretty complacent of course, but that was because he was - and always had been - a bit of an arrogant, overconfident git. What could possible go wrong in a place full of powerful, confused, sometimes violent creatures? Nothing at all if your name was L'thor... or Lunthor as the case had been, of course. Still, nothing had gone wrong, so that was alright, but he wasn't about to go and advise Panata to swagger out onto the sands with such complete confidence that he didn't bother keeping alert.

"I don't think being rooted will be my problem. I was attacked last time because I actually moved around too much when I should have stayed in one spot . . though with that last dragonet no one can really be sure. I've never seen anything that frenzied in my life, nor do I think I want to see it again so long as my feet are on the sands."

The way Panata said it almost made it sound like he didn't care what would happen to all the others after he had managed to Impress or Turn out, and for a moment or two that was how he honestly felt. He wasn't friends with enough people to really have concern for any of them, and by the time a dragon came to him chances are anyone he did know would long be gone for various reasons. Standing on the sands alone never sounded fun.

"But. . . .I don't really mean that I want others to have to go through that too. I wish all hatchings could be peaceful but it never seems to be the case. Some of the older Weyrbrats tell me that this wasn't really the first bloody hatching, but I don't know if I can imagine anything worse."

"Violent hatchings do happen," L'thor nodded. "It's quite common for there to be a minor injury or two, just because a hatchlings is a big confused and knocks someone down by mistake and so on... Really bloody ones though aren't all that common, hopefully this next clutch will be a bit more average in that respect." No need to frighten Panata with the stories he'd heard about Telgar's last hatching; that had been a total disaster by all accounts.

A sudden poke at his mind made L'thor jump a little; he had forgotten how suddenly Dusk could decide he was hungry, and how insistent he could be about getting fed right now. The dark blue on his shoulder reinforced the message with a grumpy 'cheep', his eyes coloured a dull red... Dull for now, it seemed to be brightening even as L'thor watched.

"Well, sounds like it's feeding time," he announced to Panata with a grin. "Want to come down to the kitchens with me, or do you have other places to be?"

"I don't think I have anywhere I need to be, and I probably should try to get something into Meisir's stomach as well. We're both morning fresh and I haven't tried to feed him just yet, so if you'll allow me to bother you further I would like to join you."

Panata grinned and rose to his feet, dusting the bottoms of his pants off as well as his knees with a good pat. Meisir chimed in his ear that he did approve of them all getting something to eat together so long as he got to stay and admire his pretty lady, which Panata seemed to agree with so long as Meisir behaved. The flitt seemed intent to keep that promise, but they would have to wait and see just how long he could hold out before he acted a fool.

"I'll follow your lead, if that's alright."

"Sounds like a good plan," L'thor said as he climbed fluidly to his feet and dusted himself down. "Food all round, eh? Could you take the stuff back up to the weyr, Raith?" he added as he quickly folded the warm skins he had been lounging on.

The sleek green rumbled acknowledgment, and grasped the resulting bundle in one forepaw. "I shall take off when you are a distance away, Mine," she informed her rider, yawing and stretching her wings as she sat up on her haunches.

"Thanks lovely," L'thor patted her shoulder fondly before turning to Panata with a grin. "Right then, let's go and feed the menagerie, shall we?"
