So I was reading today in Chase's Calendar of Events, and I learned something new!

Our calendar assumes that it takes 365.25 days to orbit the sun. For this reason, we add a day every four years (leap day) to make up the difference. However, it actually takes 365.24219 days for the earth to orbit the sun. The switch (back in the 1500s to 1700s, depending on the individual country) from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar was meant to make up the difference, adjusting dates by around ten days, the amount of time that the calendar had become off during its 1600 year history. All this I already knew.

What I did NOT know, was that the Gregorian calendar built in a way to minimize the amount it would become off in the future. We have a leap year every four years EXCEPT in century years that are not exactly divisible by 400. I had no idea! This means that in the year 2100 (which some of you might be around for), there will not be a leap year!

I know. This is random. But random facts like this fascinate me! heart

Yeah... Well, we might actually need to know this stuff for the math matriculation exam. D:
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu~
Also need to remember how many days there are in each month, and how different countries' banks count the years using a different system for loans. D:
Wut?
Plus we need to know some other crazy s**t...
(I don't even remember all the months in Finnish... and I'm not allowed to have a dictionary with me...)
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuu~

Well, I have the easier math. We have two levels in high school here...
The easier one is more practical, the harder is just somehow insane.
I'd be smart enough to take the harder math, but I'm just not interested in math enough.. (you get a lot more homework.).
