Duelist of Pokemon

Everyone wants a white holiday during the winter months, right? That's what helps set the mood! Unfortunately, even with the decorations and the shops selling their wares, even the random holiday music ringing out from random speakers all over the streets could not knock away something that was missing:

Snow.

And it wasn't a white holiday without those crystals falling from the sky. Not that it could happen in the Coastal city of Katarina, sadly enough. Which is why some, snow lovers or not, have moved northwards towards the Freezelands. It was here that, not too long ago, a Ski resort was built for the enjoyment of all. of course...the staff had yet to meet those who went on those explorations a few years beforehand...

~~~~~
The bus pulled up the hotels' resort with a loud rumble, tires slipping a little on the frail patches of ice shuddering to a stop in front of the main entrance. Clenching the unlit cigar between his teeth (an attempt to look tough? Maybe.) He reached out and forced the doors open with a grunt before glancing back at his passengers with a mildly annoyed expression.
"Well?" The old man took the cigar out of his mouth and let it rest between his fingers. "We're here...Get off mah bus fer cryin' out loud." He shook his head and muttered under his breath, something along the lines of "stupid kids and those pokemon of theirs..." as a few passangers scampered off. He wasn't a bad driver, he just up to driving a bus load of trainers and pokemon for hours on end to the other side of the continent...Oh how a cup of coffee looked like ambrosia right now....
The brown skinned, purple haired girl stepped off the bus as the old man had allowed them to do so. She herself having set in the front, she seldom spoke to people and so she wanted to get off and about her business as soon as possible. The first thing she felt whipping through the doorway of the bus was the cold crisp air, molding the thinnest layer of ice upon her face. Several droplets of condensation would gather as she blunk her eyes, the frozen water in them melting. Her boot rested in the snow, it crunching under her feet, it shot an uncomfortable feeling up her body. She wore thick pants, and a think coat. She had on no gloves but you could not tell. For in her hands rested a precious ball of fluff known as Quiz, her trusted Zigzagoon. "Where to?...."
She asked herself as she began to walk through the snow towards the hotel. It was a lovely resort, as many resorts were. The crunching sound of snow becoming more at ease with her now as she continued to hold Quiz in her hands, her fluff and body heat keeping Mis's hands warm. "Shall we go and get our room then?" 'Zag zaggoon!' The tiny raccoon dog exclaimed whilst wiggling with excitement to finally get inside. "Alright..." She uttered while rubbing her nose across Quiz's head and beginning her ascension towards the top of the staircase.
Raina narrowed her eyes at the bus driver as he so rudely dismissed them from his bus but she rose from her seat three rows back from the front door and grabbed her well worn backpack, sliding one strap over her shoulder before exiting the bus just behind a dark skinned girl with a zigzagoon.
The snow crunching beneath her trusted winter boots made the girl smile. She was not usually one to like the cold, at least, she wouldn't want to live somewhere like this, but she did enjoy the snow every once in awhile, in moderation. This was the reason she had come to the resort, a well deserved vacation for both her and her pokemon. The young trainer kept her pokemon safely confined in their pokeballs knowing that at least three of the five would go absolutely crazy as soon as they saw the snow, the other two would probably high tail it into the resort and cause a huge ruckus as they tried to find an unlocked room to curl up in.
As Raina set out up the steps to the resort she wondered if any of the trainers she knew would be taking advantage of the trip. Once she reached the top of the stairs she eyed the entrance with awe, beautiful woodwork and large glass windows made the place look like a mansion in a movie rather than a place she could actually afford to stay but she opened one of the large doors anyway and walked up to the front desk.
"I'm Rainyaviel Findlay, I believe I have a reservation." she said to the elderly woman behind the desk that reminded her vaguely of her own grandmother. As the woman looked her up she looked around the lobby pleased to see a large christmas tree next to the fireplace and seating area that was lit up with what appeared to be a million little multicolored lights. Raina absolutely adored Christmas. When the elderly woman placed a key on the desk Raina returned her attention and smiled "Thank you very much. Happy holidays!" she spoke, cheer evident in her voice as she picked up the key and bounded off up the stairs on the right to find her room.
Raina, too, was not the only one to glare at the Bus Driver as another person and thier pokemon jumped off the bus. Being stuck in the very back had it's advantages, along with being partners to a pokemon almost as big as he.
"What do ya think, buddy?" Gloved hands fix the cowboy hat as a pleased purr came from the pokemon standing beside him. Both Ranger and ranger pokemon were pleased to the bone: Not only had they been assigned to this resort for the next week or so, they had been instructed to assist with the patrols on the mountain as much as possible. Not only that, absolutely no Superior was here to keep an eye on them! That only ment one thing to Mike:
"SNOWBOARDING!"
Of course, before he could rush off to the mountain with his luggage in tow, the Luxray stopped him with a warning glare. Room first, then luggage, THEN snowboarding. The order was not to be switched in any way. Mike grumbled and shifted the backpack up on his shoulder before stomping towards the grand hotel not far from the bus stop.
Quite the fancy digs this place was, yet it had not been expensive...not that he was paying for anything besides his food. Mike had to snicker quietly at the thought and moved towards the front desk with a large grin on his face, pausing only to stomp the snow off his boots as Royale did with his paws. "Good afternoon. I am Michael Walker, I believe the Rangers of Katarina had placed a reservation for me with this hotel." When asked, he handed over his ID and cast an admiring look at the decorated lobby. Royale looked more than eagered to simply plop down in front of the fireplace and he made a move to do just so, but not before grabbing a pillow from one of the couches.
Chuckling at his pokemon, Mike took both his ID and room key before heading off to the elevator with a wave at the pokemon. "I'll catch up to ya later, buddy!"
Raina had reached her room and was busy unpacking what clothes she had brought with her as well as the food she had prepared for her pokemon. Setting a bowl down she filled it with some of the food them filled up another bowl with water and then she grabbed three of the balls on her belt and released the pokemon inside. Soon a dewgong, raichu and bunneary were munching happily on the food. "You guys stay here and keep an eye on things, I'm gonna go check things out."
Turning away from her pokemon Raina grabbed her custom snowboard and exited the room, locking the door behind her even though she knew her pokemon wouldn't let any intruders get away with entering. Quickly Raina made her way to the elevator and waited as it neared her floor when it dinged she grinned anticipating the thrills she had ahead of her. She nearly ran into the man standing inside in her haste to get out on the mountain. "Oh! I'm so sorry! Please forgive me, I was distracted." she apologized, a blush rising to her cheeks.
"FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING SWEET AND BEAUTIFUL, STAY IN THE DAMN ROOM!"
Quietness had stirred within one of the hallways of the Ski Resort before it was complete shattered by the sound of...a table shattering.
"But Meeeeekaaaa, I don't wanna! You said we were on vacation! You said you would give me more freedom!" whined the Mew reject as she threw a tantrum, shattering hotel cups and spewing shampoo all over the good bed.
Meeka gave her a violent death glare and allllll the items that was once flying through the air fell to the floor.
"Listen here you giant, violent feline!" she growled. "I took you out of the my home because I did not trust you staying there. You fricken' tore a whole in my store's roof for crying out loud! Plus, Medley went off to Johto with Avella, Ella, Heila and Kiru. I WAS NOT GOING TO LEAVE YOU ALONE AT MY STORE WHEN I KNEW, for a fact, THAT YOU MIGHT DESTROY SOMETHING...AGAIN. Understand me? Now be a good Mewtwo and stay within the hotel. You can watch television or something..."
The Mewtwo squeaked innocent and floated over to the bed, sitting at the edge as her trainer stepped towards the door.
"Byeeeee Rin! Are you sure you don't want to stay Ebba?" she said, looking down at him.
Ebba shook his head, quite elated they were in a snowy area.
Meeka closed the door behind her and continued lightly door the hall. Her partner stalked behind her, walking backwards in hopes her swinging hand would touch his buttox. Meeka gave him a look. If he wasn't so adorable, she would have taken Ver with her instead to the resort.
Another short distance had taken the breeder to the hotel lobby where two Pikachus and a rather googly-eyed Raichu met her.
"You guys all full?" she said with a small tilt of her head and a pearly smile.
Poji wagged her tail and replied with a fond, "Cha!"
Territe smiled sweetly, nodded her head, and dove off the lobby table and onto the floor.
El responded in a slow, "Aiiiichiiiiii.", showing he was still a lovesick dog over Meeka's somewhat new companion.
"Than, outside for some skiing!" she hollered happily. Her Stantler and Chu trio followed after her as they ran from the tiled floor of the resort to the opalescent snow outside. Their breathes frilled to mist from the cold air. It was certainly chilly! Meeka batted her auburn eyes. It has been so long since she had seen snow.
"Alright guys, last one up the mountain is as rotten as one of Ebba's farts!" she teased as she made a running trek upwards.
Her Pokemon followed suit, content from their trainer's enthusiasm.
"Alright, let's stop staring....." Mis spoke as she placed the Zigzagoon down in the snow, all of her fur ruffled up as her tiny paws landed up the cold white snow. Ziiiiiigggggg The tiny pokemon exclamated as it hopped about to get inside, Mis couldn't help but let loose a smile as she opened the door and they both entered. Surprisingly, she did actually have on gloves and was not just hoarding her pokemon for warmth. She walked towards the front desk and smiled. "Mis Kazahana." She spoke showing an ID verifying who she was. She turned to see the Luxray settled in front of the fireplace, he must be well trained to be left alone with no trainer.
"Ahh thank you, Happy Holidays." She spoke retrieving the key the old woman had produced. She went over to the elevator and pushed the up switch, seeing that the elevator was several floors above. Something seemed to have been holding it. Was someone having a conversation with the elevator door open, that would be very annoying. She pushed the button several more times as if it would make the elevator go faster. it couldn't go faster, for it wasn't even moving.
Quiz on the other hand eager to warm off after walking through the cold, scurried over to the fire, laying next to the Luxray and curling up. Only fur could be seen everywhere, as the rest was just masses of fur. She was trying to collect her body heat in some way. If only it was some fire pokemon next to her, it could help the warming quite a bit more.
"zagg...." She exclaimed as her fur rose and dropped with her breathing, she wanted warmth to come quicker.
PostPosted: Tue Dec 01, 2009 8:43 pm
"Come on come on..." The rapid tapping of button pressing filled the elevator as the Ranger hammered his thumb on the button of his destination. Damn elevator! Even in this fancy hotel, it was moving as fast as a Slowbro on a sugar rush. AND THAT STILL WASN'T FAST ENOUGH!
Dang it! He wanted on the mountain NOW! His snowboard was practically screaming in his ear to be used!
He almost cried out in relief when it finally dinged on his floor, but he did "ack!" when he and a girl nearly had a head-on collision. Shuffling around her so he didn't accidently hit her with any of his bags or the board strapped to his backpack, Mike grinned at the girl. "No worries, no worries. From the board yer carryin and the way we almost knocked heads, looks like yer ready to hit the white slush, nah?" Mike would have conversed more, but the doors looked ready to close and Royale was waiting down in the lobby. "Hey! I gotta go put my stuff up. Maybe we'll see each other outside and talk more, ya?" With that, he dashed down the hall towards his room. Struggling with his key for a moment, Mike slipped in and closed the door, flinging a few of his belonging on the bed.
A few minutes after changing and answering the call of nature, Mike appeared out in the hallway wrapped up in the red uniform of the Rangers. 'SNOWBOARD TIME!" With that, he dashed off towards the lobby.
Downstairs, Royale purred at the little Zigzagoon. Standing up a little, the lion pokemon carefully pushed the fuzzy bundle a bit closer to the warmth before settling down next to the couch.
Opal shivered as she trudged through the snow to the hotel, her Gastly and Gengar at her side. As always, the two Ghost Pokemon were giving each other the cold shoulder, and it was driving Opal insane. As if it wasn't cold enough. "Look, you two stop your bickering and just calm down, okay? It's getting old fast." The Gastly, Nerezza glared at her trainer. "Gast gastly! Gastly gast gast-gastly gast gastly!" "But Opal! He's being a narcissistic a** again!" The Gengar, Itzal, laughed coldly. "Gen gengar, gengar gen gen gengar gen. Gengar, gen gengar gengar gen..." "Oh please, like you haven't ever looked at yourself in a mirror. Besides, I look absolutely ravishing on this fine winter evening..." Opal rolled her eyes at her Pokemon. "If you two don't behave, you're going to stay in your Pokeballs the whole time. Now please be quiet!" That silenced the cousins, but it did not keep them from throwing nasty looks at each other.
The threesome entered the hotel, and it looked quite exquisite. Opal couldn't help smiling at the large and beautifully decorated Christmas tree in the lobby. This would be her 5th Christmas away from home... Home. Opal sighed wistfully. She had been away from home for so long, and she knew her mother would worry, even after she had sent the letter telling her to call off the investigation. But even so, a small part of Opal's heart longed to be back in her mansion, her home, once again. But the young woman shook these thoughts out of her head as she approached the counter, where an elderly woman stood.
"Excuse me, but I have a reservation. The name's Opal Metallio. Thank you very much!" Opal smiled cheerily at the receptionist. "And happy holidays!" Opal motioned for Nerezza and Itzalm to follow her, and as she walked to the elevator, she thought that maybe she would send a gift for her mother this year. Maybe it was all the spirit of giving in the air, but Opal thought it best. She and her Pokemon stepped on the elevator and when they reached their floor, the door opened, she stepped out, and almost ran headlong into a man rushing down the hall. Opal stepped back a bit, massaging her head and fixing her hairband. "Oh my, I am so sorry! Are you..." She looked up and saw that the man was, coincidentally, relatively handsome. He was dressed in all red as well, so Opal thought he might be a Ranger. She blushed and stuttered. "Uh.. um... A-are you all r-right?..."
Raina grinned as she took in all of the stuff the man was carrying, including the snowboard, which caused an even wider grin to plaster itself on her face. "For sure! I've been waiting for this day all year! I will definately look for you outside." she said before switching places with him as the doors closed and the elevator returned to the lobby. As the doors open she was careful to look before dashing out, it was a good thing she did too or she would've ran right into the other woman that was waiting to get into the elevator. "Hi there, happy holidays." she said in passing as she exited and headed for the front desk once more.
"Hello again, I just wanted to let you know that I've left three of my pokemon in my room. They shouldn't be any trouble at all but I'm headed up the mountain for awhile and thought it best to let someone know in case anything happens." she said to the old woman who smiled and nodded before making a note of it on a paper near her computer. "Thank you." Raina said before turning and looking around the lobby once more. There were a few pokemon curled up by the fire and she wondered briefly where their trainers were before shrugging it off and headed for the front doors.
Once Raina was outside she grasped the two balls that were still full on her belt and released the pokemon within them. Soon a large Arcanine and a beautiful Ponyta were standing before her in the snow. "Hey guys, lets have some fun!" Both pokemon were soon bounding around in the snow, kicking up large clouds of the powder and she couldn't help but laugh at their antics. "Alright... I wanna go boarding... which one of you is gonna be my ride up the mountain this time?" she asked them and recieved a look from both of them that said "You're kidding right?" but both came to her anyway and stared at her, waiting for her to pick which one she would use as her lift.
Pausing only to stare at a door where a series of yelling and crashing rang out, Mike stood for a few seconds before shrugging and moving onwards towards the elevator; it was probably someone and their spouse out on a honeymoon or something...
Chuckling to himself, and with a close call, almost ran into ANOTHER girl stepping out of the elevator. Good thing too, because for all he knew, those ghost pokemon could have cursed him or something. Stumbling back a few steps, he grinned at the gal. "Nah nah, it's cool. Everyone seems to be running into each other today. But then again, its a holiday and fresh powder is on the ground so who can blame them?" Fixing the ski cao plastered over messy brown hair, mike glanced down at his sports watch before glancing at the gal.
"Sorry, but I gotta get movin'. My friend's waiting for me down in the lobby and I gotta see what the patrol wants me to do." With a wave and a fist mashing the lobby button, he waved to Opal. "Maybe we can chat later on."
Meanwhile, down in the second level of the basement, a shadowy figure started moving about before sliding over to the fuse box....
By this time Ayirwen had finished eating and was relaxing on the cool tile of the bathroom rather than huddled up with Aimi and Amaryllis near the fireplace she had just been drifting off to sleep when she got the feeling that something bad was about to happen. Rolling back onto her stomach she slid out to the main part of the room and looked at her two companions. By the looks on their faces it seemed that they were unnerved as well. "Did you hear anything out of the ordinary?" she asked them as she made her way towards them, not wanting to leave her companions if something bad was happening.
Aimi had been content sleeping upon the plush carpet next to the fireplace, a short distance from Amaryllis who still seemed unwilling to be friends with the small bunny pokemon. She had been dreaming about the day she was rescued from the rocket headquarters by Raina and it had her running in her sleep like a dog, small whimpers and other odd noises coming from her. At least, until she woke up abruptly, a shudder ran down her spine and she lifted her head, looking around to find the cause only to see Amaryllis standing and looking around as well as Ayirwen coming towards them. "No, I was sleeping... but then I felt cold and I woke up. What's going on Ayirwen?" she asked, the dewgong was much older and wiser than the young bunneary and she was one of the small pokemon's only friends on the team.
Amaryllis had been curled up next to the fireplace as well, gazing into the flames as they danced behind the screen. It was not long before she heard Aimi making odd noises in her sleep and the raichu rolled her eyes. Why had Raina chosen to bring this useless lump of fur into their team? She didn't battle, she wasn't rideable, she wasn't even that nice to look at so what convinced Raina to keep her around? Her finely tuned ears picked up a sound from below, shuffling, and was that some boxes being moved? Curiously Amaryllis rose to her paws then pressed an ear to the floor, the noise had stopped. "I heard something, it sounded like someone moving things downstairs. Probably just the cooks or something in the pantry." At least, Amaryllis hoped that was all it was, she really didn't feel like going through another ordeal like her last vacation.
Opal blushed and pushed a lock of her short blue hair back, laughing a little. "Yeah... I guess so. I'm gonna hit the slopes in a while, too. Maybe we'll run into each other again!" Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Nerezza rolling her eyes. Opal shot her a warning glance. She then turned and walked down the hall, waving to the man. "Catch ya later!" She smiled at Itzal and Nerezza, and the three went to their room.
Opal opened the door, threw her suitcase on the ground, and threw herself on the bed. She was exhausted, but it was worth it to come to this amazing hotel and to spend her Christmas here. The woman got off the bed and started unpacking her suitcase, all the while talking to her Pokemon. "Now, you guys better behave. I'm gonna go skiing for a bit, and you are allowed to go outside and play if you want. But if there's any trouble, you come straight to me, got it?" Nerezza scowled and floated down to Opal. "Gast, gastly gast gast gastly gast gastly?" Yeah, but how are we gonna find you if we don't know where you are?" Opal smirked. "Nezz, you can find me anywhere. I think you can find me on a mountain." With that done, and with Nerezza and Itzal back to glaring at each other, Opal changed into some warmer clothes and grabbed her hat and ski poles, leaving her trademark hairband behind. "All right, I'm off! You two have fun" Smiling, she bounded out the door, down the stairs, through the lobby, and out into the snow.
As Opal reached the lobby, however, she stopped. There was a small sound that she could hear. It wasn't very loud, and Opal thought it was her imagination for a second. She quickly shrugged it off as she tried to get excited about the snow. Even so, she kept that tiny thought of foreboding in the back of her mind.
Meanwhile, Nerezza was slowly floating towards the elevator with Itzal close behind. Neither of them were saying a word to each other as the compartment doors opened and the two stepped inside. Eventually, once they passed the third floor, the Gastly broke the silence. "All right, here's the deal: You go do your own thing, and I'll go do mine. I don't want to see your ugly mug on my vacation." Itzal sighed when they passed the second floor. "Nerezza, my dear, when can we stop this fighting? It's not doing any good for either of us. I tire of it. Why can't we be friends like we used to?" Nerezza glared at the Gengar when the elevator reached the first floor and the doors opened. "Because you're not the friend and cousin I used to know! You were my best friend! We did everything together! But now all you are is a pompous a**." Nerezza floated out of the elevator and out towards the hotel doors. "I would be ashamed to call someone like you my friend." Itzal sighed and followed her out the door.
"This place is packed!" Rhia exclaimed, turning in a circle and scanning the lobby with her eyes, tracing the faces of humans and the outlines of Pokemon with their human companions. Her fingers itched to have a camera held in them. "Are you sure this is such a good idea? It isn't like we have that much extra money we can spend."
"A little splurge won't hurt, it's the holidays," Parker replied, trying to make his way over to the front desk. "We've been here a few weeks, and we should do something to celebrate together rather than just sitting in a hotel room in Katarina to exchange gifts. It's not like we'll be heading back to Johto when we've just arrived." He shivered slightly, although the lobby was warmer than the outdoors, and rubbed his gloved hands together. "Was it your idea to travel in the winter? That was a bad idea."
Rhia shot him a dirty look and then sighed, shaking her green hair over her shoulder with a toss of her head. "We agreed to leave when everything was ready, and it happened to be ready during Zatao's winter season. You'll live. Hello."
The last word was directed at the older woman behind the desk. "I don't suppose you have a spare room or two? We called ahead, but were told to try checking for a spare when we arrived."
The woman smiled and told her to "wait just a second" while she checked the computer. Rhia's eyes again drifted to some of the Pokemon in the room, longingly following the curves of a fluffy tail, or the lines of a leg. The Pokemon camped out by the fire didn't look as if they would be moving anytime soon, and in such a gorgeous location it was, literally, picture perfect. Why, why had she decided to put her camera in her big bag? ... Oh, yes, Parker. She shot him another dirty look, which he appeared taken-aback over.
"We've had one cancellation. Unfortunately, this is our busy season, especially around Christmas. Couples getting away, but you would know all about that, wouldn't you?" The way she didn't leave room for Rhia or Parker to answer implied the question was rhetorical. "We have one room right now, but it only has one bed. Will that be all right, dear? You're welcome to wait and check back to see if we've had any more cancellations, but as I said, I can't promise anything."
"It wouldn't be the first time we shared a room, that one's fine, thank you," Rhia said with a smile.
The woman smiled knowingly in return and Rhia felt her face flush. That hadn't been what she meant! "Uh, uh..."
Parker glanced at her, raising an eyebrow at her clear surprise, and took the key from the woman with a grin.
"Thank you, ma'am. Come on, Rhia." He took her arm and began dragging her towards the staircase, his suitcase in his other hand. Once she was away from the desk, the embarrassment burned off slightly and she took back her dignity with her arm.
"I can walk, I can walk. What floor?"
"Second. We'll take the stairs, the elevators might be crowded." The two trekked up to their room and both peered in as Parker unlocked the door and stepped into the doorway.
"Huh." He looked back at Rhia. The queen-sized bed dominated the room, leaving little space for anything more than a small dresser on one wall and a nightstand. A closed door on the right wall suggested it was the entrance to the bathroom or an adjoining room. "I guess they weren't expecting people to stay inside."
"Not anywhere but the bed, anyway. It'll be fine, though. It means it'll hold the heat in more quickly if and when it gets cold!" She smiled brightly, good humor restored. She left Parker to close the door as she squeezed by with her bag and plopped it on the bed. She dug into the top pocket and withdrew her camera bag, slinging it over her head and shoulder. "I'm all set. When do we go back downstairs?"
Parker laughed and put his own things down on the other side of the room. "Let's get unpacked first, eh?"
Rhia sighed heavily and then smiled. "All right, fine. But I don't want to lose the chance to photograph. The glow of the fire on those Pokemon was perfect." She turned to look into her bag for the small medical kit she often strapped around her waist, and missed Parker's grin.
