http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/09/29/More-Confirmation-That-Cell-Phones-Cause-Brain-Tumors.aspx Quote: The study's results included findings of: •A nearly 300 percent increase in the incidence of genetic damage when human blood cells were exposed to radiation in the cellular frequency band •A significant increase in cell phone users’ risk of brain tumors at the brain’s outer edge, on whichever side the cell phone was held most often •A 60 percent greater chance of acoustic neuromas, a tumor affecting the nerve that controls hearing, among people who had used cell phones for six years or more •A higher rate of brain cancer deaths among handheld mobile phone users than among car phone users (car phones are mounted on the dashboard rather than held next to your head) Prior to this, Alfred Gilman and Martin Rodbell had won the Nobel Prize (1994) for their research showing your body's cells communicate with each other by subtle low electromagnetic signals. These signals carry all the vital information that are then translated into biochemical and physiological processes. The following year, researchers discovered that animals exposed to cell phone radiation suffered double-strand DNA breakage – the type of genetic alterations that can lead to cancer, cell death and mutagenic problems. Since then, many more scientists confirmed all of the above findings. http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/07/24/prominent-cancer-doctor-warns-about-cellphones/ Quote: Some of the research suggests a link between cellphone use and three types of tumors: glioma; cancer of the parotid, a salivary gland near the ear; and acoustic neuroma, a tumor that essentially occurs where the ear meets the brain. All these tumors are rare, so even if cellphone use does increase risk, the risk is still very low. On Wednesday, Dr. Herberman sent a memo to about 3,000 faculty and staff saying that children should use cellphones only for emergencies because their brains are still developing. He advised adults to keep cellphones away from the head and use the speakerphone or a wireless headset, he said. It's irritating about how they mainly talk about people who TALK on their can cause cancer, but they never note those of us whom only use their cell for texting/emailing/websurfing. Sure i listen to music with my cell but with headphones, and the sound at a moderate level. What i feel the industry should do more studying in is something like BLUETOOTH, not the cell in itself for talking, and perhaps thigh/waist issues(anyone else keep their cell in a holster/pocket?) I mean, I rarely see people TALKING on their cell-phones these days, unless they have a bluetooth peice attached to their head(which is REALLY irritating to see when a person is out to eat with their family... STILL at work. =o=) Eh. I went into a little rant. sorry! Opinions? sweatdrop

I know that in Vancouver (BC) they've banned cell phone towers near schools. Children's brain tissue isn't as dense as an adults, so the radiation penetrates deeper into the brain.
I keep my phone off and in my bag. I don't turn it on unless I need it. My other half puts his in his pocket and I tell him he might be damaging The Boys. He doesn't seem too concerned. He's too tied to it and hasn't anywhere else to put it.
I've read in my Brain Diet book that using a cell phone for less then two minutes changes the way your brain works for up to an hour. It interferes with the blood-brain barrier
This also reminds me about the two cell phone towers within a ten kilometer range from my house.

I hate reading this stuff due to they always rain down doom and gloom but leave nothing for ways of fixing. It desensitizes the reader because why should they care if there's no easy alternative?

Dr. Oz had a show about cell phones being linked to brain tumors when you hold them against your head. If you keep them on your waist then you run the risk of getting bone cancer or cancer in the reproductive organs. It seems that texting isn't too bad since the phone is away from the body while you type. One thing I didn't know is that the phones are submitting ad receives microwaves even when you're not using them as long as they are turned on, so to prevent extra damage, shut then off.
There are tips here: http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/link-between-cell-phones-and-cancer

Yaaa, I know. My environmental biology teacher told us all about it a few years ago. But from what I understand, it's mostly big time users and a tumor can develop where you keep the phone. I usually turn my phone off at night (unless I'm using the sleep machine app) and I rarely actually talk on it. I tend to text 90% of the time. My phone is the one thing I'm not really willing to give up. I've given up microwaves almost 100%. When my mother cooks she sometimes uses the microwave but I never even soften butter in the microwave. I pop popcorn on the stove instead of getting the microwave bags. I buy organic shampoo, food, etc.
On the subject of phones though, you are exposed to those kind of invisible waves everyday. Wireless internet and cell waves pass through us everyday. When I was a kid, very few people had cell phones. Now nearly every person I know has their own cell phones, even kids have their own cells. I imagine that we are going to see a huge jump in cancer once those people get older.
Until then I doubt anyone will give a damn. I'd like to see special phone cases that maybe block those waves. I have a special case for my drivers license because it has some kind of, I don't know, information that can be detected by the border patrol miles away so when I travel to the U.S it's suppose to make it go faster and they accept it instead of a passport which I don't have. So if the slip I put my drivers license in can block that, I'm sure they can make a similar case for phones.

There's info on it that can be detected electronically?!I thought my permit was just a shiny piece of plastic! emo But even if we used cases like that that would lead to a new array of problems. Would the only ay we could receive a call be if we took our cell out of it? Would other people use it too to cut down on the radio waves? etc. But as for your sleep machine app, you can at least put your cell in airplane mode. It keeps your cell from looking for signal(I'll use that as an alarm clock if I opt to not take my PDA somewhere, as to it can be a hassle every now and then) That should eliminate the stronver waves. But cell phones can also be linked to sleep loss too! Just make sure you have it so you can't see the screen light, even if it does come on(like if you put your cell on silent mode, rather than airplane). Ugh. Why must technology be so evil! I want to make a holster for mine out of old plastic bags(like in the arts and craft thread Leialeaf and I did. We made notebooks/wallets) and make the back super thick to keep my cell from turning on me.

Airplane mode is a good idea. Does it stop texts too? No the phone goes on sleep mode, so there's no light.

...this applies to regular phones as well? And what about radiation emitting from computers and such? I frequent the comp b/c my parents don't allow me out really.

oh! Guys! You were talking about cases that block these waves?
Aluminum foil. =P
You can make a portable Faraday pouch! =P
I have a TON of stickers so I'll prolly make one with those over it.
Also, crazy cat, you may wanna make one for your license, I hear the info is easy to steal of of them(also from the new passports too)
It's called Arphids in those items.
But aluminum foil blocks cellphone waves. =P
Tho I am lazy and just put my cell on airplane mode when i don't wanna be bothered. ;D

vlad_meamor ...this applies to regular phones as well? And what about radiation emitting from computers and such? I frequent the comp b/c my parents don't allow me out really. Probably not so much as normal phones(maybe cordless phones, but i doubt it would be really strong, BUT their base is close by, unlike cellphone towers). Computers, if you use wifi, this is DEFF a concern as well. Of course, I doubt its any more dangerous than a radio.
