The ending was so abrupt confused Like the scriptwriters just ran out of ideas and was just like, "Okay. Let's just have the movie end now."

How is a whole battle scene abrupt? Optimus also narrated the last part, leaving it open for a next movie (if there's going to be another).

It just suddenly went from a battle scene to "Yay~ Everything's okay now."
I worded it wrongly. It's not the ending that was bad, it was the transition to the ending that was bad.

I didn't see the Watchmen movie, but I read the comic.
You know how they've started making superheroes dark and edgy? Well, they did that to the greatest possible extreme in Watchmen. I didn't like it much.
