theconjugaitor if you dont have alot of money and you have a few friends you can crash in the hotel lobies if you can hide or whatever well they usualy dont bother you just make sure you have an excuse ready if they ask you why your still in the lobby, such as we were all just talking, we will go to our rooms soon, waiting for the roomate with the room key. trust me it works realy well if you dont have money just makesure not to stink up everything too much bring a bathing suit to jump into the pool to rinse off if necesary cause no one likes a smelly otaku. if your realy good at this you can do it all weekend but i wouldnt recomend it try to find a party where there are alot of people drinking and pass out in the room, find someone cool at the con and crash in their room or find a part of the hotel that isnt used like tenis courts that are inside or storage rooms on the lower levels. they arnt used till around mid day This isn't so much advice for Otakon, but for life in general. Periods. You know, those little things that look like dots? They're there for a ******** reason. Use them. Commas are pretty spiffy as well. You can combine two short sentences into one long one, or show a pause in one long sentence. Punctuation: It's nucking futs! Yeah, I know this is outdated. I figured that the thread was necro'd anyway, so why not...

If you don't care about being there right when it opens, 9AM was a good arrival time for me last year (literally no line when getting our badges, very nice). Note that I only go on Saturday, so I don't know about Friday xd

Many people at the con are always so excited, many forget to rehydrate or eat. Carry some snacks around, even if its just junk food and water. Second con experience for me taught me this since I found that some vending machines in the center don't work. This ruins the con experience so much since you won't be able to concentrate on what you want to do because your stomach is growling like Totoro.
It's getting more dangerous in this world, so be careful when you are going home at night. Don't walk to the hotel alone and make sure that you have something to defend yourself such as keys, big a** cosplay sword that is heavy. If all else fails, I hope you have a fast set of legs and a light cosplay outfit gonk
Make sure to keep track of your friends. I remember my first con experience was frightening since I got seperated from my group. Make sure to have some spot to meet each other in case one or more get seperated.
When you are going to be out, baking in the sun on Thursday, pretend like your going to the beach. Sunscreen, umbrella, water, and something to keep you pre-occupied.
Finally, have fun! I know what I wrote many have probably heard before but I've seen those people that end their con experience badly and those who ended theirs with a bang. Make friends too! Don't be shy, there are many good people to be met. =3 Keep a pen and paper too if ya are gonna get their contacts XD and possibly their gaia account Lol.

As a local, I have a few suggestions to my fellow con-goers.
Bring a change of clothes other than your cosplay. It's best to bring the outfit you'remost comfortable in, in case you feel ill just need a rest. It's easy to get overheated or eat somehting funny.
Drink lotsa WATER. Personally, I choose vitaminwater, however just plain water is your best bet. I wouldn't trust any street vendors on water bottles, usually it's just otld wate,a nd I'veseen them evey year since I starte coming. Bring your own water or get it in a BCC veding machine, convnienvce store, etc.
Owings Mills good place to find a hotel. There area few by the mall and you'll be close to the subway, whch I've been going on since I was 5, and is usally very safe. And there's a relativley big mall thqat has a hotel or two nearby.
Thethe stop n thesubway that is closest to the BCC is Charels Center.
Carry a Bag with you. You cna put waterin it, swsag, an extra outfit, advil, bandaids, tissuues, etc. It's like your own ittle on the go pack!
Label EVERYHITNG That beongs to you. Your camera, iPod, water, clothes, bag, even your wallet. You have more of a chanceof it being returned in case you lose it. and don't think that nobody will return it, about 60% of pleple will return a lost wallet if it has ID, without taking anything. They can't do that without ID on it.
Use the buddy system. If you travel ANYWHERE, inside o outside the BCC, please take a friend. The BCC in itself is MASIVE, and you can easiy get lost. Make sure everyone in your 'group' has a cell phone or money for a payphone, and exchange numbers in cas you get lost. Have a meeting place inside the BCC. If you travel outside the BCC, stay in groups, ecspecially after dark until you've arrived at safe destination or your hotel room.
Please, please oh please oh PLEASE shower. It's crowded, we don't want to smell you.
Eat AT LEAST Two good-sized meals a Day. I'm sure you're not attending panels every square minute of all three days. My best friend passed out in our forst year, because her cosplay was stunning and we couldn't manage to get her to eat.
Bring friends. Its no fun wiithout someone to share your excitement with.
Say you're sorry, excuse yourself, and say please. DOn't be impolite. We know it'scrowdeed, and hot. rude people who rin into you and just yell at you for it are not nice, then you get angry and make it even hotter by runnin iff at the mouth. Just be nice.
I think that'all for now. sorry about the typos, my keyboard is fritzy.
