Now before we start I have to say, this is strictly talk on the U.S. and NATO's involvement in Afghanistan, not the involvement in Iraq, they are two completely different subjects, I might make another thread about that one later.
I have made this thread after several new developments have happened.

Now for a short synopsis for those who have lived under a rock for the last 10 years:
September 11 2001, 4 United States commercial aircraft were hijacked by 19 members of Al-quaeda a terrorist organization based in Afghanistan, U.S was outraged as well as the neighboring countries whose citizens were killed when two of the planes crashed into the World trade center, a massive attack was planned to take out the organization, now the Taliban a much larger but different terrorist organization outraged at the fact that another (By another I mean the Soviets in the 80's, fun fact we were actually good terms with the Taliban until Afghanistan due to us supplying them with Patriot missiles and striking back at the Russians with U.S special forces) country was going to invade their country declared they would fight back with deadly force if anyone attacked. Being the United States and the backing of NATO and the U.N. we went in anyway. But unfortunately the U.S. had difficulties since their war doctrine against terrorist organizations had changed very little from Vietnam. Now there have been several troop surges during the involvement that have been very successful. Since then there has been a resurgence of Taliban attacks against U.S. and it's allies, but with the new involvement of the Pakistani military, the bribing of the Taliban in Waziristan to stay out of it, and the next surge of 34,000 troops things are starting to look better.
That may seem long but trust me, I left out a lot of things not necessary for an educated opinion, and on that note...

Opinions?
What do you think about the involvement of U.S. in Afghanistan and whether or not it should be there?

My opinion is that I believe the U.S. needs to be there at least to prevent further attacks on it and it's citizens. However they are not doing something they promised to do and that is rebuilding Afghanistan.

I think we need to just say screw it and take it over.
Bitches attack us, we have every right to take 'em over.

They're ******** themselves over in combat. The best thing to do is to focus on training the Afghan police force nad military so they can protect their own country, and we as occupying forces can go back to helping with development and peacekeeping.

That would be the ideal thing to do, but in order for that to fully take place an at least partial suppression of enemy forces needs to take place.

That is also true, however that's failing and I know Canada has a deadline for combat in 2011...? Or 2012, can't remember, and the support is zip on home turf.

It's 2011, that is the date for most of NATO at least.
But with the Pakistanis getting involved and the next troop surge things might show improvement.
