"Yes, but hopefully it won't take too long." A few weeks, maybe. She certainly hoped so; the thought of her energy being drained from her was even more frightening by the knowledge it would be over an extended period. She'd even heard that some mares went mad from it all. Probably just the dafter ones. But she glanced back at the carnivorous Reya, a sly grin on her muzzle. "But at least I'll have a very interesting stallion to talk to while I'm stuck here." And handsome, too. ..where did that thought come from?
The appaloosa laughed at his comment about tossing him off a cliff. Of course she knew they'd never do such a thing, but it was still amusing to hear. "Of course, and you know I'd be the one demanding it; how could you do such a terrible thing?" She teased, chuckling. She hadn't had a chance to joke back and forth with anyone since, since... Well, since she was still with her sire and dam. "And that's a relief, but still, I hope there aren't too many... More fruit means more energy I'll lose, and inevitably the more foals I'll have to take care of." Drek. Why didn't she think of that before? She'd thought it all out, of course, logically - but was she ready for foals? Of course she'd take care of them, teach them all she knew, but would she be able to act like a mother should? ..would she love them? Oh, dear. This was something she hadn't thought about before. Oh, drek. At least she had plenty of time to get used to it.

"Hopefully not," Ignatius flicked his tail idly at a passing fly, studying the sapling carefully. "If those rumors Meleager went off after are true, he probably won't be back before they hatch," he went on, turning to Jocasta. "If I knew where he was I could run off and tell him when they started getting big - the fruits that is, assuming there's more than one - but unless you want me to I won't bother."
The dappled stallion might come back of his own accord if he could spare the time from Castor, if the whole thing was true and they got the weird beast to 'bless' them... All in all it was by no means guaranteed that the father of the saplings would be there to see the fruits it bore hatch. Ignatius knew Meleager to be an honorable stallion, so he would come if he could, but he could only be in one place at any one time and his priority would probably be his boyfriend.
"Still, like you say," Ignatius snorted and then grinned, "without his hallah-ness you get me, which is much more fun. Couldn't imagine being stuck with a 'superior' for so long." He could only stand being with Castor so much because he had been permitted to essentially forget rank unless there were other folk near enough to hear them talking, and even then the tactician didn't mind too much if he was a bit lax. He was the uncouth, rough bodyguard, he wasn't required to treat his charge with perfect manners.

Jocasta offered a shrug of her wings, taking another bite of an elppa she'd pulled out of the basket that Ignatius had brought for her. The more thought she gave the situation, the happier she was that Meleager had up and left with Castor to chase after this strange rumor of theirs. Sure, Meleager would know more about trees and how long they'd take than Ignatius, but she didn't know how long she could stand being around the herdleader. She respected him, of course, but since whatever fruits grew were borne out of an agreement and not any sort of romantic feelings, she could only imagine what awkward feelings might cross them during their time at the tree, and awkwardness was not something the violet-eyed mare enjoyed experiencing.
"Well," she began after swallowing her bite of elppa, "if you know where he is, and it's not too far from here, you can run and let him know. But if not, I wouldn't want you running around all of Shrilal looking for him. Besides, either way, I think they'd hatch before you'd get back with Meleager in tow or not." She'd heard from others that when you realized the fruits were ready to hatch, they usually did within the next few minutes, which would certainly not be enough time for Ignatius to run off and get Meleager.
"Exactly," Jocasta said with a grin, snapping one or two of her muscular tails. "I'm sort of glad he's left now, if he was here instead I wouldn't be having nearly as much fun as I am with you." It was true, too. Any enjoyment she could have had with Meleager during the whole entire tree ordeal would probably be equal to about five minutes spent in Ignatius' company.

Ignatius grinned, returning his attnetion to his meal. "Exactly. Awkward silences, such fun when you can't make an excuse and sidle off." Still grinning his pointy grin, Ignatius pinned the dead creature down with one hoof and tore free a leg, which he gulped down whole. "If he doesn't manage to be here when they hatch," the scaly stallion went on, "that's his problem not yours. I doubt the foals will remember, and you don't need to tell them he wasn't here if you don't want to... How are you two planning to raise them anyway? Share the job, or is one of you going to do most of it?"
Parenting. Egh. He couldn't imagine enjoying it, or being any good at it. If some mare he had a bit of fun ended up stuck with a tree, tough elppas for her. He'd have to be into something pretty serious before he even considered being a part fo the offsprings' lives... He glanced at Jocasta again, wondering. She was attractive, and alright fine maybe he had a slight crush, but just because she was different, more like him than anyone else he knew save Saune, who was a stallion. The Hellenes could practice it all they like, he didn't care either way what others got up to, but it certainly wasn't for him. Maybe Jocasta was. Maybe once this fruit thing of hers was over he should ask her out to a scenic hilltop with something nice to eat, or whatever it was you were supposed to do.

The violet-eyed mare chuckled, wrinkling her nose. "I can't stand awkward anything, and he'd be the only one with any excuse to make and sidle off with." Egh, now she was very glad he'd left to be with Castor. Just thinking of how awkward it could have been made her flesh crawl. Speaking of, watching Ignatius eat, she had to wonder what it tasted like. He obviously liked it, with how fast he was wolfing it down. She'd never try it, of course; the taste of blood made her gag as it was.
"No, I doubt they'll remember either, and... humm," she ended, brows furrowed. That wasn't really one of the things she had spoken to him about yet, oh dear. But, considering their positions, neither would have altogether too much time for them... Meleager especially, being the herdleader. But, she couldn't imagine dropping them off for anyone else to take care of - they were their foals, after all, and if Meleager didn't have the time for them, well.. she supposed that she'd have to make time for them alone, if it came to it. "Ehh, we didn't talk about that, but I suppose since he's the herdleader I'll be the one stuck doing most of the parenting. He's not getting off scott-free, of course." Like hell she'd be doing it all by herself. "But, we didn't discuss names either, and I doubt he'll be here when they hatch, and they must have names - and considering the circumstances, he could hardly complain if we picked names for them without speaking to him first. That is, if you wanted to help name them, of course." Names, oh dear. How would she ever figure out good enough names for them? Names they'd be known for and called for the rest of their lives. Oh dear. When she'd signed up to give Meleager foals, she didn't fully realize all of the other things she'd have to do. Oh well, she'd get used to it, and if the dappled stallion complained later, she could toss the ball back to him and tell him he shouldn't have run off if he didn't like something she did.

Ignatius gave a sharp-toothed grin; he might not like the idea of parenting, but naming foals sounded like fun. "I'm sure I can help you come up with some ideas... Wonder how many there will be to name." Not too many he hoped, more fruits meant more stress of Jocasta, more work for him looking after her, and the possibilty that she'd go nuts and eat some of them. That was not something he'd want to have to explain in his report to Meleager.
"Anyway, I'm sure you two will work it out when he returns," the scaled stallion went on with a nod. "I think given he's just run off like this, you should take the chance to set down what you want while he's feeling guilty. Not that I'm a cunning b*****d or anything," he concluded with a growling chuckle. He did respect Meleager, he was a good warrior, but he didn't like having to call him hallah; seeing him knocked down a peg or two by the irate mother of his children would be rather satisfying.
