"Oh no problem, Veyes. I'm glad I could clear up one puzzle in your head." she said with a tender smile. "So D'los...ah...I will add that information as well. I'm so sorry to hear that he is no longer with us. His painting tells me he must have been a good boy and had much to offer the world." She gathered up the skins and took the box into the other room remaining there long enough to write in all that information L'thor had given. She didn't press for more because she had a feeling that there was much more to the question than Veyes or L'thor had let on. Although she was curious but Veyes seemed to treat L'thor like family so she wouldn't dig any further.

Veyes' brother had long since been done with his meal and had shot out the door to see the BIG DRAGON! "HI! Raith. You're huge and really pretty! I've grown too since you last saw me. SEE??" He stood up tall as he spoke with her from his respectable distance. "Don't tell Mom and Dad but I want to be a dragon rider one day too." he said in a low voice to her. "But if I can't I want flits! Just like L'thor!" He smiled big and bright up at her. It was obvious he wanted to touch her but wasn't sure it was ok.

Veyes' father walked out in the middle of their chat, he really wasn't interested in past lives but seemed more interested in the daily routine - work, sleep, earn a living. Maybe a respectable sort but he didn't seem as interested in Veyes after Veyes said he wasn't returning home for awhile. Seemed like Veyes would ignore the attitude for the most part. Maybe because it was what he expected of the man. Nothing would be right with his father if he wasn't doing the 'standard' things in life 'on the farm'.

As soon as his mother was away, Veyes looked at L'thor. "Want to take a walk around the farm? I think my brother is just so happy to see Raith that he might need a bit more time. I'd like to visit with my mom today too. I'm sure she's going to want me to tell her about my life at the Weyr" he smiled with that thought because it would give her something new to dream about and he still needed to give her the scarves.

"Yes," L'thor smiled slightly and rose to his feet, covering the painting again as he did so and returning it to his bag, "I think I'd enjoy a walk... Is there somewhere I could change into the lighter clothes I brought? It'll be getting hot outside by now." A bit of time for him to just wander around with nothing much expected of him would be good, he could really think through all of this, decide what - if anything - it changed.

Back outside, Raith rumbled approval, her eyes whirling a brighter blue as the boy mentioned wanting to be a rider. She didn't recall him even now she was speaking to him, not more than a faint impression that he might have spent quite a lot of time with her - but she decided she liked him already. He was sweet and sincear, what more could you ask of a person? She would try to remember to suggest to L'thor that they get an egg for the boy at some point... but not too soon, he was rather young yet, not ready for a pet that would share its feelings with him when it rose to mate. Give him a few turns though and she was sure he'd make a very good flitt owner indeed.

Giving a friendly croon Raith lounged more comfortably in the grass and beckoned the child closer with one forepaw, not even considering that the human gesture might look odd coming from a dragon. Still, she never did consider things like that; her mannerisms might look odd to some but she didn't care; people who thought she was anything but graceful and beautiful clearly needed their eyes checked in any case.

Veyes pointed over to the small washroom. "You can change in there. I'll wait for you outside." Wandering outside he flung himself up onto the fence and sat down to view the fields as he waited for L'thor. The wind through his hair felt good and sometimes he did miss the farm but...not enough to want to be living this life every day.

The child grinned as she rumbled a little. "You look really good! I wonder how much oil it takes to get you that shiny. I remember a few turns ago I helped Veyes carry oil so he could scrub you with the mops. " Being a young kid he didn't have the fear or even tried to comprehend the gesture for anything more than what it was...a gesture. He didn't know enough about dragons to think anything more yet than they were like humans with dragon skins.

He scooted closer and soon was right up beside her sitting down by her fore paws looking up at her face with a wondrous smile. "I wish I could talk Dragon." he said as he touched her forepaws curiously. "Oh wow...you're skin is so smooth."

Veyes watched his brother from a distance figuring to let him experience a dragon on his own knowing that sometimes kids learned far more without older people interjecting. He didn't feel really that old but so much had changed within the past few turns that he did feel like he had grown some in ways he never would have had he stayed on the farm.

L'thor changed swiftly and placed his warm clothes carefully back into the bag alongside the painting. Running his fingers through his hair to get it back in order, he exited the room, found a safe looking corner for his possessions, and joined Veyes outside. It seemed that Raith was in good company, he observed with a soft chuckled as he climbed over the fence and lent back against it. "They seem to be getting along well," he observed quietly to Veyes, "he has big dreams as well, eh?" He'd never be searched to High Reaches to be with his brother, but maybe when he was a little older a rider from Southern Weyr would see potential in him, it did tend to run in families after all.

"Mrrrrr," Raith rumbled happily at the attention, and the compliment; it was nice when people noticed how well cared for she was... She supposed she could just talk to the child, but though she already felt fond enough of him she didn't want to go that far; she seldom even spoke to Veyes and she was far closer to him than she was to his sibling. Still, the boy seemed happy to chatter and just receive noises in response, so that was good. Giving a happy sigh, the sleek green lowered her head to the ground and closed her first set of eyelids; the sun was making her feel very relaxed and rather lethargic. She could quite happily rest here for most of the day if given the chance.

Veyes' brothers small fingers scritched Raith's ridges once her head was low enough to tough. "You've such pretty eyes too...Their so big and blue like a swimming pond" he said with a boyish awe." he was perfectly content to sit there with the dragon. So much so that Mom shooed Dad away from disturbing the boy. The child chattered merrily about the world about him; everything from the worms he caught for fishing to the toad he found in the barn.

Veyes smiled as L'thor joined him. "Ah yeah...I'd think he'd keep Raith if he could." He laughed at the thought. "Seems like he does. Yeah...He's starting to become more than just a baby now. Kind of weird how time flies. I didn't think he'd remember the flits but they must have made an impression. Obviously Raith did too. Seems she like him."

He hopped down from the fence and started walking across the field. "So...feel any better now that you know the truth about D'los? I hope it helped you out some because you were losing it back there at the Weyr for a bit."

Sighing softly, L'thor tilted his head back to feel the warmth of the southern sun. It was a lovely day. "Yes," he said eventually, "I think I do feel better... Having thought about him, talked about him, and found out more about him now I feel..." The rider trailed off as he considered what it was he actually did feel. "I feel more distant from him," he went on eventually, his voice somewhat distant with deep thought, but not unhappiness. "I feel that he is... he is the past, a happy memory. That's how I felt more or less before I got myself into a tiz and now... Now I feel that you and he are..." He paused again and watched a bird fly overhead. "Separated," he said decisively, looking back down at Veyes with a smile. "You really are not all that much alike save in looks. On there surface there are quite a few similarities to pick out, but anyone who really knew both of you would be able to detail the ways that even those similarities are different."

So now what? Back to life as it had been he supposed, but at High Reaches, and still without his flitts. Maybe they hadn't stayed away because of the cold, maybe it had been subconscious his state of mind, maybe they would come back now. Did he wish he'd managed to figure all of this out while still at Ista?... Not really. He hardly missed his former home at all of late, just its weather really, and the people in it, but he was happy to just visit both of those. Ista, like D'los, was a happy memory, but not one he felt the need to cling closely to. What had been had been, and what would be would be.

"I'm glad to hear that. Because I don't know what I'd do if you put me in D'los ' shoes anymore. I'm not his shadow." At least, well....he tried to make that very clear. Although inside, he had this small feeling that L'thor probably would always 'see' something of D'los in him. Whether or not that was completely correct he didn't know and wouldn't ask. L'thor had been through a lot. Actually, they both had. It was a rather strange sensation.

"We met out in this very field a few turns back. You know? Right over there." He pointed across to a hill. "This time though, I think you're in a better state of mind." Hopefully it was a new beginning for the two of them. So many other things had gone wrong, Veyes didn't ever want to lose one of his best friends to a ghost...even if he couldn't have him for anything more than a friend. Maybe one day, L'thor would think different of him. He could hope but until that day, it was probably best just to enjoy what they had. He could never know when he might lose that...like L'thor and D'los.

"I know you aren't Veyes," L'thor responded gently, "I'm sorry if I made you feel as if you were for a while." He refused to feel guilty about it though, it hadn't been his fault that his mind had so suddenly filled itself with issues... Still, it was solved now or close to it, there was no sense in worrying.

"I remember," the slim rider went on, turning to look at the hill in question and smiling slightly. "I feel much better today than I did back then. That day was a large step down from the days that had come before. Today is a step up." He remembered that first sight of the boy, how his heart had skipped and his breath caught in his throat. For those first few moments he had merely seen Veyes as a shadow of his lost love, but never since, never truly. There had been confusion in his mind, yes, but he had never started thinking Veyes was D'los like he had when he'd flung himself at that feline. What a sharding awful day that had been.

Grinning to himself, L'thor pushed off the fence and turned back to Veyes. "Come on then," he made a sweeping gesture with one arm, "let's go for that walk, eh?"

He smiled as he listened and knew that even though the man could say those things now, he'd wait and see...just to make sure. Although after all this he was pretty sure Raith would give him a tail swipe if he started to sink low again! Veyes felt he had done his best though and to see L'thor looking better and feeling better gave the young man much hope in the future.

His imagination was able to pull up the day they met from all sorts of angles and maybe in some ways, it was good they met the way they did. Maybe the Ghost had a hand in that..and wanted L'thor to move on. From everything that had been said about D'los he was sure the Ghost had been that sort of man. He wished he could have met him. They probably would have been great friends. But gently he put the thought aside and glanced over at L'thor, who had jumped off the fence.

"Yes, today is a big step up!" said Veyes with a much broader smile as he followed L'thor from the fence to the grasslands. "I'd love to!"
