Traditionally, CZW's annual CAGE OF DEATH event is the showcase of the Ultraviolent, the battleground to settle the score of a year's worth of war. A place where blood is spilled... by the bucket...and competitors put their bodies, careers, and lives on the line for the chance to reign supreme at the wrestling world's most ultraviolent event of the year. This year, the spirit of Cage of Death could not be personified any better than it is by the rivalry between the two competitors who will meet on December 12th for the Ultraviolent Underground Championship - NICK GAGE and THUMBTACK JACK. And, as if these two needed any extra incentive to rise to the occasion, CZWrestling.com has learned just minutes prior to the publishing of this press release that the two warriors will meet in a NO-ROPE BARBED WIRE match to open CAGE OF DEATH XI!
2009 has been a breakout year for TOURNAMENT OF DEATH:Rewind Champion THUMBTACK JACK. Like many, the German deathmatch sensation entered the Combat Zone with a lot of hype, but unlike some who enter the Zone with such acclaim, he actually managed to live up to his billing. The syringe-wielding star proved he had all the toughness and then some to last in CZW with his unforgettable performances at Tournament of Death, and later at Rewind, outlasting opponents like DJ HYDE, DANNY HAVOC, SAMI CALLIHAN, JON MOXLEY, and MASADA to become an instant CZW legend. And of course, along the way... Jack survived an ominous run-in in Delaware with the man... NICK F'N GAGE.
For that man, Nick Gage, 2009 has been a year of turmoil. A year that started with such promise for the undisputed King of Ultraviolence came to a screeching halt in June, when he entered Tournament of Death as the overwhelming favorite, and a man motivated by the chance to reclaim the trophy that means more to him than life itself... the Tournament of Death trophy. As expected, Gage rolled to the finals that day, where he stood toe-to-toe with a man he expected to soundly defeat, and lay to waste as just another pretender in the land of Ultraviolence. However, just minutes into the match, Gage's world was turned upside down when the unthinkable happened... he got cut... bad. A perfectly planned whip from Thumbtack Jack into a wall of lighttubes left Gage's TOD hopes in the dust, and his career... and life in peril. The man who survived thousands of lighttubes over a historic career finally met a lightube, and an opponent he couldn't beat. As Gage was carted off, and eventually loaded into a medical helicopter, he was forced to watch from the distance as Thumbtack Jack was hoisted up to the CZW fans as the hero of the day, and the new "Future of Hardcore". For Gage, that vision is one he still remembers to this day, and is one that fuels him to make December 12th a night that will forever stand out as the highlight of his Ultraviolent career.
On December 12th, Nick Gage and Thumbtack Jack will finally meet one-on-one in the middle of the black and yellow ring, and the ramifications couldn't be greater. For Gage, it's a chance to finally beat the man who he feels has temporarily taken his throne. A chance to take back the UVU Title that he considers his, a chance to give a collective "F-U" to the haters who said he should retire and who in his mind... joined the bandwagon that is Thumbtack Jack. It's a chance to say "F-U" to DJ Hyde, who bought the company Gage helped build without so much as a phone call to the King of Ultraviolence to let him know what was going on. For Gage, it's a chance to close a chapter in his career that has left him so enraged that he no longer sleeps at night. "The Man" has always been a little off his rocker, but now... he's certifiably crazy. Nick Gage will not stop until Thumbtack Jack is down... and out. He wants to bloody Jack, he wants to hurt him bad, he wants to end his career. On December 12th he will have the opportunity to just that, and move on with the next phase of his life.
For Thumbtack Jack, Cage of Death is about more than a rivalry with Nick Gage. It's a chance to move up the ranks. It's TJ's first Cage of Death, and a moment that he has looked forward to for not just his entire career, but his entire adult life. As a teenager back in Germany, Thumbtack Jack watched Cage of Death on videotape and dreamed of the day he could climb into the ring in front of the wrestling world's most insane fans on the most important CZW day of the year. Cage of Death is a chance for Thumbtack Jack to solidify himself as the new face of CZW, and perhaps more importantly a chance to make himself a true contender in the crowded CZW World Heavyweight Championship scene. For Thumbtack Jack, Cage of Death is about turning his legend into reality, and realizing victory on the biggest stage of all.
The stakes couldn't be higher, and it's all on the line for Thumbtack Jack and Nick Gage when they meet in a NO-ROPE BARBED WIRE MATCH at December 12th's CAGE OF DEATH XI! Who, if anyone, will walk out with their hand raised high? We'll find out in just 23 days in South Philly at CAGE OF DEATH XI!
