I'm gonna say it, this is one of those causes I want to happen, but it probably wont. For those that don't know what Virginia is like let me explain it to you, the north is possibly the most different it could possibly be from it's counterparts in the rest of Virginia. We are for Gay Marriage, they are against it. They are pro-life, we are divided. We are for universal health care, they don't understand it. We are also culturally much different with about 40% of people in Northern Virginia not in the white majority. Economically we are the greatest economic center in the country with the median income about 100k, in the worst part of VA the average income is about 20k. For every dollar we send to Richmond we get about 25 cents for any projects we want to do. The reason this is, is because we are pretty much the Silicon Valley of Information technology. Hell we don't even like each other, we see them as uneducated red necks, they see us as spoiled rich kids. It is like the old joke if you take Northern VA away from Virginia you get Arkansas. The reason it probably won't happen is because their is no major issue that would cause the cracks in what is holding together to finally split, like seceding from the Union was in the 1800s that caused West VA to leave. In case you were wondering we don't like them either.
I'm just saying so much could be accomplished if we left the non-helping parts and focused on helping ourselves. Opinions?

Sorry, if everyone who disagreed had their own state our flag would have overlapping stars.

It is worse then you think, we HATE each other, and who cares if the flag is changed, it has been changed over ten times since our nation was founded, a minor change in our nations flag design is possibly the most minor issue here.

I really should pay more attention to my state's politics.

But, then again, I had heard about this bit where all the money's going south. But, in all honesty, I assumed it's because the system fails.

And? Texas has Austin, which is actually a pretty liberal place, and then it has... everywhere else.
And if any state were to split, it would actually be California. Due to large geographic differences, an already massive population, and extreme political differences, it could feasibly be done. There also might almost be a need for it; as it is, California is nigh-on ungovernable, and its budget is failing miserably.
Virginia doesn't really have any major problems. It, like every state, might have some regional differences, but none of them too extreme.
